Dan Carlin of "Hardcore History" fame http://www.dancarlin.com/ has put forth an odd case.

In the preamble to his series Wrath of the Khans he makes the case for writing a book that is pro Nazi and compares it to all the history books that praise the Mongols for unifying various territories. While in today's world, the idea of writing the pro Natzi book is at best problematic it will be written some day he says. The difference between the two is mainly the passage of time.

He of course is not pro Nazi but considering some of the recent discussions here I thought his brief comment apt.  He says it much better than I can here.

Thanks, that is quite a nice Christmas gift from Dan Carlin. His stuff is great! I wish more 'history teachers' in school taught the subject with such passion, interesting detail, and in more depth. Children, and even college students, wouldn't be saying "history is boring." And I think understanding history is the only way (or at least an important way) of understanding current, and future likely, events.

With regard to Hitler it would be interesting academic exercise but one that will need several more generations to do in even an non-judgmental, academic way (if ever.) It is interesting how the mass slaughter of the Ottomans, Soviets, various Muslims throughout the centuries (in Africa and the Indian Subcontinent killed many, many millions, the Khans, etc get a free-pass (for the most part, though more recently the Soviets are starting to be criticized- but usually with the caveat that since they suffered so much it was only right that they take revenge on the German and Ukrainian civilians and women.)

Maybe I'll shoot the birds feeding tomorrow on Christmas day.  Most of the birds here, right now, are sparrows and dark eyed juncos.

Those logs are our winter heat supply.
