I'm going to check tonights threads for the posts I missed. Damn slow assed ISP. Those pricks throttle the connection because they oversold their bandwidth and don't have the infrastructure to handle the traffic. I'll be checking into different ones. Weather plays a part too, but they've been caught before by the FCC throttling when they weren't supposed to.

I haven't been able to go for runs due to the impact running was having on my knees and ankles so I decided to hire an elliptical machine so that I can get in an hour of exercise a day. I have chosen the first hour of Hoagie to do my daily exercise and I must say listening to RCH makes the hour whiz by. You almost forget you are doing exercise. I owe by trim and terrific figure to Richard. Braaps.

Great, expat. And, yes, I heard Hoaxie say there are no craters on Mars.

Also very puzzled by his insistence that there is a connection between the timing of this announcement and a) the Pope's visit, and b) the release of The Martian. I read The Martian and it has absolutely nothing to do with the discovery of water on Mars. What is he talking about? It all makes as much sense as the pointless blathering the other night about the timing of the Pope's visit and the significance of the places he was visiting in terms of some sort of sacred triangulations, all in Hoagland's head. He even wondered why the Pope wasn't celebrating Mass in the National Cathedral in DC. As a Brit, I would have been able to point out that that would be because it isn't a Catholic Cathedral.

Hoagland was asked about this last night.  His response?  "It doesn't matter [who found it]" and then he went into his claims that NASA had been hiding information and only releasing it when it suited their political/disclosure agenda.  Of course, this still ignores the fact that he and his aren't planetary geologists who are held to a high standard of evidence.

Wow, expat, that's one well written article and it is most persuasive as well.  Of course there are many of us who enjoy listening to Richard, not for the hard science but for his entertainment value.  Kind of like watching an Ed Wood movie...we are happy to suspend our disbelief for an hour or two of fun. 

On the reverse side of the coin, I am more than happy to keep the nerd scientist within me pleased, by reading facts such as you have presented in your blog.  Proud of you.

Considering that my thesis work focused on mapping just under 640,000 craters on Mars, plus another 120,000 for another project, when I heard that, I was more frustrated with Richard than normal.  It hurt me, personally, and deep.

In all seriousness, I totally get why you would be frustrated and hurt.  Your work is fascinating and wholly appreciated by me and probably 99.9% of everybody else. (even RCH)  Quite frankly, the links you provided regarding your work and the accompanied articles were shared with many of my family and friends.  My only contact with you is just a blip an a message board.  Nonetheless, it still was nice sharing the information like I was "in the know."
