Great and interesting show last night about the Antikythera mechanism. I recall Ian had a show about it years ago but last night's was excellent. Once again I cannot say how surprised how good RCH is on his show, from serious subjects to more zany ones with humor, good questions, self-effacing, and interest. He was wasted on C2C and is proven he can make show much better than Norry's version right out of the gate.

They had the ideal non-Knapp weekend host right under their noses and they completely missed it. I guess no surprise there though.

No surprise, though I could imagine the management, in mist-tunnels, had RCH type-cast of only 19.5 torsion all the time, all the day. I actually thought that also until I listened to a show where he has more time, has guests, and runs the show. He can talk about many subjects and things and can "get away" from pet theories and single subjects. And is funny and seems well-read, and even has some interesting political asides. I think it was clearly Norry, and Tommy, who got rid of RCH because they knew him and likely knew if given a chance for a show he would really outshine Norry. Knapp is not a threat because he has another real job and doesn't want to do more. But RCH would be a direct threat.

I think RCH said in his interview with Bateman that he didn't get along with Tommy. RCH surprised me too, he's got a real talent for broadcasting and would have been a threat, I agree. I mean, look at last night's show, that was so far beyond coast as far as quality that it's not even funny.

Most of us have the same thoughts on RCH.  The show is such a pleasant surprise.  He's described himself as a "generalist" and I concur.  My feeling is he doesn't try to pretend to be anything he's not. (i.e. Noory)  He doesn't lack confidence either.  I'm looking forward to the evolution of the show.  Rossy is working hard.  Good times ahead folks.  8)

Plus that 'new show smell' hasn't worn off.  :D ....I've already listened to last night's show a second time.  ;)

I did too, I went back for the last hour and said hell with it and listened to the whole show. I never do that, even with Art's shows.

Tonight we boldly go where we will continue to go on the show....our first Star Trek alumni guest.

Tim Russ (Tuvok)

Go check out this link, it has the trailer to the new film he's directed "Star Trek: Renegades" and some other cool links and info about tonight's awesome guest.

Are you serious! That is AWESOME, ROSSY! i've been waiting for Art to have guests like this...now RCH does! I'm glad I signed up to be a Hoagland's Heros!

ShayP

I knew of Tim Russ and his work on Star Trek.  Also saw him in a couple other things.  Now I see he's been in way more than I thought and has put out records since 2001.  :o  Plus co-wrote a children's book which looks cool.  If I had kids I'd look into it.  It would be weird if I bought it for myself.  Anyway.....  ;)

This show is going to be a good one!  8)

Dammit Rossy, you are knocking it outta the park!  :D

Shay, go to last night's MITD live thread.  The (allegedly real) guy behind the Alongside Night film is having a breakdown.  It's magnificent.

Ross is a pro.

SaucyRossy

The cool thing is, Star Trek renegades is on YouTube to watch for free

But you can buy a dvd or blu ray, I'm ordering a blu ray

Tim Russ was a guest suggestion by ScifiAuthor, major thanks to him for suggesting it.

Guest suggestions from all of you are really important, a. It's who you want on the show and b. It is stuff I might never would've thought of. So thanks again to ScifiAuthor for suggesting Tim.

If you can get back the guest RCH had on last night, that would be awesome.  Maybe advise him to use a headset though because the audio on his end wasn't good?  It was a really good show.  You're doing a great job. :)

SaucyRossy

Prof. Mike will be back! Already talked with him about it.

And yeah, he had a headset, we did audio tests multiple times.....still unsure of what happened with that.

What was his username?

Tim Russ also directed the fan film Star Trek: Of Gods and Men a few years back.
I seem to recall that SETI's Seth Shostak appeared in that film as a Starfleet communications officer on the bridge, might want to ask Tim Russ about that tonight!

Another quality I'd add is RCH seems genuinely interested in things, as opposed to those who sleepwalk through interviews with non sequiter "Wows" and "Unbuhleefables".  E.g. last nite he was legitimately amazed at how that x-ray device could pick up Greek letters on such an old artifact.

I don't even want to know how little information a four hour Noory interview would have revealed.

Could it be an ancient VCR? Like a Betamax?

I thought of Picardo, but I have a feeling he's too big of a name.  The Harry Kim guy sounded more likely.  Actually, my first thought was Geordi Laforge, but the image wouldn't fit him.
