I sort of understand what she's talking about as this has long been a criticism of science for me. Not from a gender based perspective but getting rigidly stuck in old concepts when a new reality is slapping you in the face and refusing to adapt is typical of science and perhaps kind of closed minded. My earlier discussions of cold fusion (in other threads) attest to this and anyone doubting it should read Thomas Kuhn's The Structure of Scientific Revolutions before making up your mind. Another, non-gender based way of approaching this is from Ludwig von Bertalanffy's General Systems Theory, which I've often found useful.

Then in my 30s, I realized what do I care? In the end if a majority of people are taken out of my way as competition in higher end economic and technological fields because their brains can't process reality, fuck 'em. I use to be a teacher and this drove me absolutely crazy. It wasn't just the parents, but the administration, as well as the rest of society, more or less forced us to passively instill this delicate frozen mind mentality into the kids. Things like expecting the teachers to 'reward' these kids with candy and such (paid for out of our own shallow pockets) when they did something right, etc. It was so clear to me how wrong this was on a psychological level; at least, on a regular basis. Occasionally is good; all the time is damaging. I could go on forever about how twisted up the system is but it's all too much and I just don't feel like devoting that much time and energy into this crap anymore. No matter how much I fought, they fought back harder.

I get your point but I think you're making a bit much of it because 1. She's getting her PhD in Education. In liberal arts programs students are encouraged to make interdisciplinary connections. If you can find a theme for a thesis that both connects to science and the arts liberal arts professors each that shit up with a spork! 2. This will most likely change nothing in the world of science. 3. Try looking at what she's saying from von Bertalanffy's general systems theory. Replace male/female with closed/open systems and you might think she has a point too.
