That stuff is old, and frankly I don't think it is a big deal. Art didn't beat those kids or anything like that. He was in his early 20's.

Yeah closing/deleting threads you disagree with and stifling all dissent imho is partly what led to the demise of the other Bell board the FF.  I'll admit the timing of the thread, being posted on the day Art made his official MITD announcement is a bit odd.  Anyway, read an article about that situation a while back.  Art does not claim to be a perfect human being and if true, what he did is pretty crappy, but that takes nothing away from what an amazing broadcaster he is.  If we stop liking public figures because of questionable virtues/moral decision making then there will be nobody left to listen to in music/radio or watch on TV/movies.  OK maybe Kirk Cameron, but nobody wants that

the thing people need to realize is that you can never understand the circumstances inside another marriage.  i can't count the number of times i've seen a couple who seem perfect together and inseparable, only to find out... yup... they're calling it quits.  having said that, i can't imagine any circumstance that would keep me away from my daughter, so only art knows what his thought process was then or is now.  i know i was not the same person at 25 that i am now at 35.  i think this is the case for most people out there, art being no exception.  perhaps it was an atrocious marriage with horrendous life circumstances attached to it all.  maybe art was extremely selfish at that point in his life and didn't have the strength to humble himself and reach out to his kids later in life when things changed.  nobody can know.  i boil it down to the fact that art is a legendary radio broadcaster of whom i consider myself a fan, and that's where my assessment of him as a person tends to end.

i agree with the above post when it comes to knee jerk deleting this sort of thing.  this is an art bell fan site, and it's wonderful that art posts here, but this information is publicly available in a legitimate publication and through a simple google search can be accessed by anyone who wants to see it.  i want minimal involvement in the futile and questionable role of arbitrating what type of information people are allowed to see on this forum, and hopefully the wisdom behind my restraint will illustrate for all of you why i make the big bucks around here. 

art's a big boy and can respond in whatever manner he deems appropriate, if at all.

I "get" what MV's saying about deleting threads, though I still wish this one would go away.  I don't think it's a rules violation to change the Subject header so it shows up differently on the "recent posts" section, so I'm going to do that on this post (I'll even report myself). That way Art won't have to be confronted with it every time he logs into the forum.  As everyone's already said, this is old, OLD news.  I'm guessing we'll see more like this as the launch of "Midnight in the Desert" gets closer.  Why do people have to be such little bitches?

Who cares anymore?  For me to comment on the situation would imply that I know something about Art, his circumstances at the time, Vincent, his personality or other aspects about this.  The fact is that I can observe Art as he is today- which appears to be a loving husband and a proud father of a young girl who posts pictures of him attending her events.

This is the present and I do not feel the need to worry about the past and the relationship between a (now) grown man and his father (neither of whom I know personally.)

I'm not about to click on that link and go to that site, because I don't want to get an infection or risk malware, but my thoughts:  My own dad severely beat and abused us kids (I submit this anonymously) and our mother was very bad too.  Until, one day, when I got big enough, I pushed back, he was shocked and from that day forward he feared me.  After I became an adult and he became an old man, I changed, he changed, and we buried the hatchet and on the day he ended up at the hospital facing death (which came days after) he and I had a heart to heart and he explained what I did that upset him and I saw it from his perspective (I had grown long hair and became a lead guitarist) and said he wished he had been a better dad.  That's all a guy can ask for.  All men have trouble controlling their temper, so he beat me, so what, sure, I'll never do that with my kids, but it was a different time, a different era.  Art deserves some peace of mind at his age, and hopefully any water is now under the bridge.

Ur right im not a dave bot and timeing has nothing to do with it cos i im very limitied on how much time i can be online and saw this website a few months ago and have t been able to post on here. The reason for posting this was to find out if this was actually true or if its a case of slander and if anyone else has seen this garbage. Im a fan of arts but i guess not a huge fan cos i dont follow everything thats done by him. As i originaly posted i just wanted to know if this was real or not.  If someone wants to deleat this thread go ahead. It was just a case of i found something and didnt know if anyone else had seen this. Simple as that.

I have a lot of bugsplatters on my windshield from forum travels over the years, and MV does as truly fair a job here as I've seen anyplace.
Especially for somebody who has an actual stake in the game.

Everyone has a history. We all make a lot of mistakes, some bigger than others. The main point... Art Bell is in his 70's. This happened when he was 22? So almost half a century ago. The kids ended up having a father in their lives. Art got to be young and dumb.

If you want to bag on Art Bell there are plenty of topics to choose from in the past 15 years. Might be at least somewhat relevant as well. But, speaking as someone who has made a snarky joke or two and criticized the SiriusXM and podcast goings on... think about what it would be like to have a group of people shine a light on your past. I've done some bad stuff... depending on the judgement, maybe worse that Art Bell. I could have been dead or in jail a few times. It would suck pretty bad to get hammered about it for years and years.

In fact, I'd probably move to the desert and live like a hermit...  don't know...  food for thought.

Art's a public figure, but he's also a member and regular contributor to this forum.  While I'm mostly appreciative of light-handed forum moderation, this seems like a hurtful invasion of privacy.    There are a few other forum members who haven't made a secret of their RL names and identities.  If someone unearths an old, personally painful, newsprint article about one of them, and posts a thread with their real name and the names of their children in the title, is that okay?  For me, it's not. 

It makes me sad that Art, who obviously enjoys checking in here and interacting like a regular guy,  is forced to see this at the top of the forum every time he visits.  If the thread isn't going to be deleted, so be it.  But, is it possible that either the thread title be changed, or it be moved to a different section of the board, or both?
