Fox confirms X-Files reboot talks; Anderson & Duchovny may reprise roles

Just watched the second one. I have to say, they've nailed this as well as was possible I think. It has the right mix of the original theme, the "feel" is right, a nice mix of story arc and monster of the week episodes, it's not a reboot but rather just some time has passed, everything seems right. Sure, the actors are older but I'm fine with that.

With the monster ratings the show is getting, I can't imagine Fox won't order more episodes.

I am not fine with Skinner's beard though. Men who shave their heads should simply not sport unanchored beards.

I heard ep.3 is supposed to be an instant clashick!

I heard this as well. I'm tentatively pre-swooning.

It would have been nice to live in a universe where The X-Files and Art Bell were on at the same time.

Time travel anyone.

Yes, like "The Thing" playing on the TV in "Halloween."  Man messing with apes, apes messing with Man.  Just throw in aliens and stir.

The interplay between the 2 of them seems to be getting better. If I had one complaint, it would be that their interaction seemed a little off in the first ep, maybe even a bit of the second. The dialogue was pretty bad, so maybe that was part of it, but from this promo it looks like they're back on track.

One thing I noticed is the inclusion of names/topics in the new series to make it current.  Two that come readily to mind were references to Obamscare and Snowden, but there have been others.  Seems like these references were a bit forced, rather than fitting in well with the flow of the programs.  Stuck me as like listening to someone who likes to name drop.

i have no issues with the beard...get over it lol
Sssssh!  In the next episode, we discover Skinner has a stalker and he's going incognito.

I'm loving what Chris Carter is giving us. Keeping true to the original with the bonus of bigger and better special effects.
And a funny monster-of-the-week ep coming up!  Wooohoooo!!!

"It has a monster in it." --Dana Scully

To warm up, tonight I'm watching one of my favorite MOTW ep: "Squeeze"

I've been having to watch the delay streaming on Hulu, but it's better than not being able to watch at all.

Skinner's beard? It doesn't bother me too much, but I prefer him clean shaven. And Gillian Anderson could definitely put on some weight. She looks way too skinny.

They're doing it with the technology too, showing a lot of cellphones and modern devices just to have them in the scenes. I think what Carter was going for was to ensure that the show had some current feature, because everything else seemed to be geared to be faithful to the original series. Even the incidental music is basically the same as it was, which is a little dangerous because music can sound dated, but it's still working here.

The name drops and the tech are the "modernizing" factor, but I'm not sure it was needed. I actually found it a little odd feeling to hear Scully say "Snowden" though. I must be that used to watching old episodes that it threw me a little.

I can't, once you see it, it sears itself into your consciousness and then you're screwed forever. I had a dream about it last night.

I'll bet anything that it's a plot device for one of the monster of the week episodes. It's a piece of alien technology and takes control of Skinner's mind and makes him do evil things. We've seen this before, whenever Spock had a beard, we knew it was evil Spock.

I think I know what you're referring to with the interaction being "a little off," but I think the slight awkwardness, discomfort and lack of usual repartee was an intentional thing. Scully and Mulder have a complicated relationship and some festering issues. Toss in not being much in contact for years and you can't have them get back in synch too fast. I thought the writing on episodes one and two was good. They've eased back into this very convincingly.

I found myself on multiple occasions today, wishing I could watch more of this already.

This is unusual for me, partially because I've grown accustomed to binge watching, but mostly because I haven't given much of a shit about episodic television for years.

I think the single thing that impresses me the most about this return event, is that I thought I would be bored, and the critical reviews I read led me to believe that I would be, but instead, I ate this shit up with a knife and fork and am now yearning for more helpings.

Yeah, I agree somewhat. It struck me when the word Obamacare came out of Mulder's mouth. But part of it is the oddness of these '90s characters saying these very current names. Once we fully adjust to the show being in 2016, this forced feeling should go away.

so..supposedly...the episodes are already out of order

Ugh, can he just sell off the rights to Vince Gilligan and let someone competent run this show? He created great characters and had some great ideas about what the story should be, but when it comes to execution he's just fucking messy. He's reminding me of George Lucas.

You're probably right, some of the dialogue was pretty cringey though. "The truth is out there, Scully, and Tad O'Malley is gonna broadcast it!" ...ugh.
