Race baiting in America

How about a rational discussion wherein opponents actually contemplate the other guy's thoughts... Morgan gets it and can hardly be called something other than a liberal.

Yeah, in many ways he does get it.

Is this canard still floating around?

Mitch McConnell says "The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president" - and that's a racist comment?  Wow, what a bombshell - a leader of the opposition party says his goal is to re-take the White House, and somehow that's racist if the President is black?

On this linked video, Morgan Freeman first pretends he can't remember Mitch McConnell's name, which seems strange for such a stunning event (or is this such a farce that the name isn't important?).  Then he says it's about race, then he misrepresents the comment, then he contradicts himself:

MF (at  0:31):  'Their stated policy, publicly stated is (whiny voice here)... it's to do whatever it takes to see to it that Obama only serves one term".

MF"  "What underlines that?" he continues. "Screw the country... we're going to do whatever we can do to get this black man out of here" he answers himself.

Piers Morgan then asks:  "Wouldn't the Republicans say that about any President?"

MF:  "No!  Because they would have gotten rid of Bill Clinton if they could have...".

Piers:  'They tried."

MF:  "They did try.  But still.  They're not going to get rid of Obama either..."

Really?  MF takes Mitch McConnell's routine comment, states that Obama's race is what motivated the comment, then denounces it.  Then when asked whether the R's would have said that about a white President, he says 'No!'.  And in the very next breath he contradicts himself and says they tried it with Clinton too!!!

The idea that any opposition to anything Obama does is somehow 'racist' stems  from this very comment.  No matter that contesting for elected office is a normal part of what political parties do.  It seems like the Democrats tried to defeat Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II when they ran for second terms.  They even drew up plans ahead of time to do so.  I dunno, maybe I'm remembering things wrong.  Maybe they're the good people and no one is supposed to run against any of them.

This is such an outrageous smear and lie.  This stuff is so incredibly destructive to the body politic, and poisonous to society at large.  And these people put this garbage out there constantly, knowing it's a lie, knowing it's destructive.  To advance themselves and to advance their party.

The Democrats have always been the Party of Racism.  Now they are just a little more cunning with how they use race.  Having Big Media on their side sure makes this stuff a lot easier to pull off.  But even here Piers Fucking Morgan asks one obvious question, and the whole argument collapses in contradictions.  Turns out the R's do try to defeat other politicians, even white ones.  Even Morgan Freeman says so.

People want to know why the 2 sides can't get along to get anything done anymore.  Look no further than this video.  Look no further than the stirring up of trouble in Ferguson, before the facts were in, making up their own poisonous 'facts' to fit their narrative.  This level of intentional dishonesty, this level of destruction, I don't understand how anyone could ever support this party.  No matter how lousy the other one is right now.

Anyone else fed up with these racialist Democrats and their disgusting tactics?

By the way, Morgan.  The 'Tea Partiers' aren't 'controlling the Republican Party', unfortunately.

You seem pretty fired up that someone would lie to advance a political agenda.

My question is: why does this upset you so, and when it is done by a Repub, as we have been talking about endlessly, you don't give two shits?

Rhetorical question.  I already know the answer.  When it's done in service of something you agree with, lying is acceptable.  Right?

So let's move on.  In the past you have piously whined that you guys on the right are the only ones following the principles and ideals upon which this country was founded (or words to that effect).  Well, George Washington (remember him?) was of the opinion that once the election was decided, it was the duty of the opposition to work with the President for the good of the country, and not pursue a policy of obstructionism.

How does that fit in with your assertion that you guys are faithful to those founding father principles?  It doesn't, of course.  Like with the lying, the right wing are a bunch of prissy hypocrites.  You guys don't HAVE any principles or ethics.  Just blind emotionalism.

Racism is alive in America because liberals and democrats NEED it to be.

Disagree.  I would be happy as a pig in bbq sauce (well, that would make me happy) if people were only ever judged on performance rather than ethnicity.  Democrats don't need race when the class discrepancy is so much more universal.

Gd5150

It's certainly alive in the pop media. Ferguson is just another media created race riot based on sensational hersay. The CNN & MsNbc's of the world live to create these fake stories via 24/7 factless news coverage so they can relive the 60s ever other month. Now they just need to find which Republican to blame. Who's today's Relublican front runner for 2016, ok blame him.

Not sure why I write or care. Actually I really don't. Same ol same ol with the left stream media.

Hey, did everyone hear a 6.0 earthquake hit Napa?  Would anyone with permissions please PM Paper*Boy (Oakland, I know, but close enough) to see if he weathered the quake?  There are reports of fires and water main breaks.  Thanks

It's pretty clear from videos taken moments after the shooting that there was going to be some civil unrest.  Some of the people talking in the background seem to have witnessed the shooting, based on their comments.  The witnesses who DID come forward and speak to the police -- you know, the ones who did the shooting -- said that the man had his hands in the air when he was shot.  The city of Ferguson is 72% black, and the police department has exactly ONE black officer; the rest are white.  How you turned this into some faux "media created race riot" is beyond me, except that you're clearly an ofay who has no clue of the underlying sentiments involved here.

Racism has been deemed among the worst of human traits.  As good and great as this country is and has been, slavery and post slavery race relations are probably the most shameful aspects of our history.  It's something most of us are trying to get past.  It's why it was such an emotional moment for so many when Obama was nominated, then elected.

So when the D's constantly try to attach that legacy to the Republicans, and insist racism is their core motivation, it's about the most vile smear possible.  It is a lie, and the fact is it's a legacy the D's supported overtly in at least some parts of the country for well over a century.

But the worst of it is that it's holding up reconciliation in this country, and it tells young black kids that the country hates them and they have no chance in life  - so too many of them having that drilled into them give up before they even really get started.  There are a certain number of people who believe it, and are there ready for someone to light the match.

Do you think Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Eric Holder went to Ferguson to make things better or worse?  Do you think their appearances and comments were a net positive or a net negative for that community and for the rest of the country?

The opposition is also elected to represent their constituents.

I think a party can work with the opposition and get legislation passed, as long as it doesn't violate core principles.  As long as they believe it truly is for the good of the country.  If they don't, they have an obligation to obstruct it.  The Constitution was intentionally written in a way that change would be slow, and it would need broad based support to wind it's way through the process and be implemented.

Plenty of people who didn't vote for Obama saw who his friends were, listened closely to some of his comments, and from that had a pretty good idea of his worldview and what much of his agenda would be - and knew it would be difficult to find much common ground.  So they said what they said.  And behold, they were right about the guy.

I live up the road a few miles from Berkeley, not in Oakland.

When the rolling and shaking finally stopped, there was an explosion and the whole sky lit up.  I groggily thought it was a hell of a lightening strike, and a weird coincidence that it happened during the earthquake.

I went outside and the 2nd explosion lit up the sky.  Then power was out everywhere I looked, except my street.

How do PM permissions work, can't everyone PM anyone else?

I don't trust any of them, but some less than others

Say, Karl...have you ever thought about moving to Napa?

I could get you a really good deal on a property there right now.  No need to thank me -- I'll make all the arrangements.

It was me telling to grow up that got to you, wasn't it?
