“Compared to the size of the economy, the deficit in 2013 is much lower than in 2009, when Obama took office. The deficit will be 5.3 percent of gross domestic product this year, nearly half the 10.1 percent of GDP in 2009.”...

Well, if we use 2009 as the base year (that's fiscal 2009, which runs from Oct 08 thru Sept 09) of course we are going to see a leveling off afterward.  All that initial bailout money was counted against FY 2009.

It appears to level off even more when we look at it as a percentage of the economy instead of in Total Dollars.

The fact is, George W Bush, first with a Republican Congress then with a Democrat Congress was the biggest spender in the history of the world (some 'Conservative, huh?).  Only to be outdone by Obama, first with a Democrat Congress, then a Republican Congress.

They system is broken.  Neither party deserves to continue to exist.

That is the stupidest thing I have ever read on the internet. I almost feel sorry for you; it must be horrible living in the dream world you live in.

Make sure to check under your bed tonight before you switch the lights off, to make sure Bush and/or Cheney isn't hiding under there waiting to sneak out and get you  ::)
Selective memory, AWM resentment. That's you.  You have no idea how close the conservatives took this economy to the kind of collapse that preppers now pine for. Do you have any idea at all what almost happened in Fall '08?  Do you even know what a business credit line is?

Do something that's more your speed QK; iron your stars and stripes bandana, or buy another box of ammo for the coming conservative apocalypse; you resentful fools are so dumb you're gonna give them another shot at bringing it all down.

The percentage of adult Americans who are working or looking for work now stands at 62.8%, a 36-year low and down more than 3 percentage points since late 2007, according to the Labor Department's May employment report.

One word comes to mind: devastating.

Worse yet, the majority of workers dropping out of the hunt are age 25 and under. That`s a massive time bomb set to go off in the near future.

Thank you again, Dear Leader.

Bush, McCain, Romney, the Republican 'leadership' in the House and Senate - currently and at the time, are not and were not Conservatives.

It's actually easy to tell who the Conservatives are - they are the ones both the Democrats and Establishment Republicans are attacking.

The Conservatives were against much of what Bush was doing, and only supported McCain and Romney as the lesser evils during their campaigns.  They only voted for Bush in 2004 as less bad then Kerry.

If the Republican Establishment nominates, or tries to nominate, Jeb Bush, Chris Christy, Romney again, or anyone like them, it will be shocking how badly they lose - I think the base, the real Conservatives, have finally had enough and will just stay home (that's what happened to Romney last time, he was slightly ahead in his internal polls, but ultimately people just didn't bother to go vote)

This is the worst 'recovery' on record.  Usually the deeper the recession, the stronger the recovery.

That there has been a recovery at all is due to the strength of our underlying capitalist system.  Despite Obama's blockage and destruction.  Our strength is not endless or guaranteed though, there is a limit.

While the American middle class contracts, perhaps fatally, from the Tea Party's kamikaze ideology, you parse labels.  Your "underlying capitalist system" has almost wiped out real self-sustaining growth from domestic manufacturing employment and converted a stable, secure banking system into a casino...oops...casinos are well regulated.

You "true conservatives" float safely on a sea of progressive policies built over a century, and without which most of you would be uneducated day laborers working until your cold corpse was dragged out of the way of your replacement. The conservative view used to be simply wrong-headed; lately its become insanity.

I wish I could've said it like this. Well done!

The R's are the party of Big Government, of taxation - who knew?
When was the last time a Republican President DIDN'T increase the deficit?

What boggles my mind about your pathetic stupidity is that based on your comments, you actually believe that liberals are guiltless and pure as the driven snow.

I respect you, but you're fucking insane.

The middle class contracting from the Tea Party?

Which Tea Party members are in position to do anything?  What is it you think they've done?  Holy fuck, there are maybe a couple dozen Tea Party advocates in the House and, what, 3 in the Senate.  The Tea Party, or anyone, can have whatever 'ideology' they want, but they will be almost completely ineffective without more members than that.

Even if every Republican in DC was a Tea Partier, they would be completely blocked by the Democrat Senate and by the Democrat President.  So what on earth are you talking about?

Barrack Obama is the person destroying as much as he can, and blocking growth and job creation.  He whines about a do-nothing Congress, but the fact is he doesn't know how to work with them and wouldn't if he did.  He was too incompetent to work with the Democrats when they controlled the House, and certainly too incompetent and political to be able to work with the House after the R's regained it.

He had nearly 2 years with a Democrat House and a filibuster-proof Democrat Senate, and the only thing he ever got passed was ObamaCare - very likely the worst piece of legislation ever passed.

The current House has passed and sent literally scores of bills to the Senate.  Harry Reid - on orders from Obama - has held up every one of them.  So they can continue the lie about Congress doing nothing, setting the stage for Obama to rule by decree.

Fuckstick Karl never debates points. Just attacks character and intellect. Disappointing.

I was; until 2007.  That's when I burned my Republican Party card. I was blind but now I see.

If you chaps on the right can't even manage your own party, over the 20 year period you just outlined, why in in the world would anyone trust you to run an actual country? You guys are like the Keystone Kops, pouring out of a clown car and distributing cases of New Coke to folks leaving a screening of Heaven's Gate.
They don't really need to manage their party anymore; the Koch's now do it for them.  If you don't believe it, ask Boehner.
