How do you get weed without the weed?

How do you get weed without the weed? By genetically engineering yeast to produce THC, of course.

Once theorized in a stoner magazine column more than a decade ago, a biotech startup working in Ireland is actively trying to transplant the genetic information that codes for both THC and another cannabinoid called CBD into yeast so that new medicinal (and, perhaps recreational) "marijuana" can be grown in a labâ€"no plants necessary.

Has anyone coined the term 'Frankenpot' yet?

Finally a useful purpose for yeast infections.

You can graft Hops onto  a mj root  and get a hops vine that has canibinol instead of  the normal hops alkaloids might also make interesting home brew.

This could have some great therapeutic uses. However, I would mention that it seems like those seeking the full effect of MJ might still fall short because of the smorgasbord of other compounds present in the naturally-grown herb.

no GMOs!! Wait, I wonder what the anti-GMO protestors will say about this GMO if it makes getting high easier and cheaper?

I'm a carcinogen and I'm offended by this research.  Tar baby, tar.

Every food out there is GMO to some extent. People have been breeding cattle and creating strains of plants to more suit them.

I draw a line at gene splicing. And what Monsanto does is jus pure evil

about as lame as powdered alcohol.

Nice. Growing wheat is not illegal.

If you grow wheat-and not hemp-to produce THC, you would qualify for government subsidies for your wheat.

In addition, you would qualify as a farm, for farm disaster relief, and you would get paid not to grow your wheat/THC.
