Happy 4th of July

Started by RealCool Daddio, July 04, 2014, 08:10:53 PM

I hope all my American friends have a happy 4th of July.

(Apologies if there is already a thread, too lazy to look).

We have a great deal to be thankful for. We have a great deal to be proud of.

Indeed you do.  I loved my few years there, but am also happy to be back in Canada (well, weekends back in Canada).  You have a great country, and despite the challenges you have and will continue to face as the world around you changes, I can honestly say you are the most resilient people on the face of the earth.  I am honoured to call so many of you friends.

Nothing personal, I was just looking for a reason to use this photo, and July 4 seemed like the best time.

We haven't had that spirit here, since 1969

No problem, it's your day.  Fuck a goose to celebrate!

We prefer beavers, though.  ;)

Don't read too much into that lyric.  1968 was the year they should have cited, but that doesn't rhyme with "wine."

Although I do get your point.

Did you hear that the Chinese are going to the Moon?

Are you channeling William Burroughs? You're saying the right things . . .

Thanks, Daddio. Back at ya!

Meanwhile, we don't have a space program.

When I was in the 7th grade (1970), they told us that the whole country would be using the metric system when we grew up.

To have a space program we'd have to teach math and science. Fuck that. We'll just hire some kids from India.

Why don't America and Canada just celebrate the same birthday since ya'll have the same accents eh?

The two countries should merge, it makes sense.  The only reasonable response to the blatant hegemony by China in that region.

Look forward, not backwards my friend.  Let us unite in the new world order.  We're in a consolidation phase politically.  Any stock broker understands me.

Yeah, like you and the Kiwis?

That wouldn't be my first choice but I would like to be in the blue section.  It seems to be buggering Jesusland there.

A considered response:

So I called up the Captain
Please bring me a crate
He said,
We haven't had that spirit here
Since 1968

I would be a liar if I said I wasn't looking forward to China's plans for a moonshot.

Somewhat ~anti-Americanly~, I also enjoyed Putin's seemingly random statement about dominating the moon forever.

Putin put you in his sights
Oh, masochistic moon
Your cow may come home with a spork
Not American fork and spoon!

(but the smart money is on the chopsticks)

While I have little faith about long term interstellar space achievements and everything required that goes with such endeavors (as I recently stated elsewhere) I can certainly dutifully cheer us/them on.

I only wish the U.S. had a turtle in the manned race, as it were; that all this global village hoodoo forced down our throats by OMNI Magazine back in the day was finally actualized in a united effort to explore at least this galaxy, either by origami (shades of the Spacing Guild) or old fashioned impulse power. Turtles, indeed. Slow and steady colonizes the parsec.

I'm a dreamer and a cynic realist, DigitalPigSnuggler.

Oh, the pain, Will Robinson. The pain.

(that's Joel Robinson to a few of you fellow freaks here)

And before I forget again, thanks for the well wishes, RealCool Daddio. You can see they were well received.

If memory serves me that position is known in the pr0n industry as "the pile driver."

They're planning to steal all our Helium 3, using the alien technology that lies dormant on the dark side of the Moon.

I don't know if anyone has seen the not-in-the-slightest-bit-racist 'Battle Beneath The Earth, but it's going to be exactly, exactly like that, only on the Moon.

And it would seem the Red States are "catchers".
