Solaris on a PC?

I have an old laptop on which Windows no longer works.  I was going to get some Linux distro and use that to completely erase the hard disk.  Then I thought that I might as well go ahead and install Linux.  Then I thought I might install Solaris, since it's free.  Has anyone done this?  Any thoughts?

linux will have more applications ported to it. however solaris is a good os, you will just need the x86 version. i would go the linux way. depending on the laptop maybe a hackintosh.
