No-knock warrants should be abolished.  Probable cause needs to be crystal clear, too.
I've never been arrested. I do not intend to be arrested but it seems a lot easier these days (national security can be used at a local level) to incarcerate someone (with that bullshit 72 hour waiting period to charge or dismiss) without real justification!

the 72 hour waiting period is just for looks. in reality they can simply label you a terrorist and hold you indefinitely, without access to :
a phone
a lawyer
a court (a judge is supposed to see your case within 24 hours i think)
you might say "thats unconstitutional" but in reality who would know other than your captors and yourself?

Another interesting thing is how that character Obama, via his minions, have instructed Border Patrol, ICE, etc to go easier on illegals (not that they were doing much anyway) even in response to attacks by an illegal on their person. But at the same time says nothing about police, TSA, etc groping, shooting, beating up, tasering, shooting your dog, and otherwise abusing US citizens on a daily basis. It is as if you are not illegal, or some odd-ball sexual deviant, you are not a concern for that character Obama. Or, if near election time, a black (he doesn't care so much about them now that election is over- unless they are an illegal from Haiti or someplace.)

fuck the police
As someone who has done that job, I concurr.  For a great many who wear the uniform  today, they would happily wear any uniform and carry out any orders.  Nicht  wahr?  Sorry, don't mean to Godwin the thread....actually, I don't care if I do.  In our Western cultural experience, the Nazi shit sandwich of the 1940's is the only real example that we can embrace.

When I went to the police academy in 94-95, we were being taught a 'new' concept.  While we were being trained to P.O.S.T. standards (Police Officer Standards and Training) here in CA, there was an aggressive mindset that emphasized 'controlling the situation' and 'hook and book' and everybody goes to jail.    Discussing the training with my father who graduated his police academy in '70, he was shocked.  His training was directed to a more 'keep the peace' and not arrest unless absolutely forced to.  Send ppl on their ways, separate combative spouses, etc.

My father joined when he was released fm active duty (Army) where he served in 'Nam.  I had just left active duty (Marines) after the first go around in the catbox.  We both remarked on how 'military' the academy experience was.  His point being that when he went through the academy, it was more 'Sheriff Andy Taylor on patrol in the streets of Mayberrry.'  Mine was more like a prep for a 'movement to contact.'

This is not going to end well.

I think a lot of people considered the police to be on our side if ever there was a violent conflict between government if it were to become unbearably repressive, and citizens standing against that.  Not anymore.

PB, I still know a boatload of coppers.  When the SHTF, those who have families or significant others will not be reporting for duty.  They will be staying home to  (1) protect their families and (2) their neighbors.  And more than one has said that they will only do (2) if it doesn't put (1) at risk.

So prep up PB and everyone else here.  Get in decent physical shape, put aside a couple weeks worth of groceries and water, more water than food.  Learn the mindset that will be required to defend yourself.  Buy whatever tool makes you feel better qualified to protect your life, a firearm, hammer, katana or 20 dollar gift certificates to a restaurant to hand out to your assailants so that they will go pick on the guy next door with the AR-15.

The cops will not be there to protect you.  Those that show up on game day will be protecting places and important infrastructure...and of course those oh so critical politicians.  Those who might sweep down your street?  Are probably not coming to bring you coffee and doughnuts.

I would add to that is to have a plan for your family and friends. Because some will be caught out away from home. Where to meet? Signals? How to handle a crisis or school lockdown (the government is training children to avoid conflict, hide under a desk, or follow some government minion into a holding area instead of leaving the scene, hiding, or fighting back.) Once your kid is in the camp, good luck getting them out unless you have prearranged plan (in case of emergency at school disobey orders and leave and meet at this spot etc.) This has already happened during school shooting. Parents don't receive information. Children are sequestered in a football stadium or camp. (Wonder why the fences at many schools have barbed wire that faces INWARDS?) Large capacity stadiums are a favorite during coups, revolutions, and civil breakdowns in the past.

Also meet and get to know your neighbors. Feel them out. Ideally, there will be others in your area with like concerns and with other beneficial skills. Meet the police who live in your neighborhood. Don't come across "bunker" mentality but they will likely be aware of what a civil emergency would look like and have concern for their family and neighborhood. A neighbor militia would fare much better than the lone individual in his house.

our local fire dept bought  a bunch of military surplus vehicles.a troop carrier, deuce and a halfs, etc. they retrofitted most with pumps and water tanks, and kept a couple of troop carriers as is, and painted them all fire engine red, with appropriate lighting etc.
here in the desert, many fires are not accessible by regular fire trucks, and these vehicles can get men and equipment to most fires in the bush.

Yes, that is good use for surplus equipment. I would imagine that those huge military bulldozers also could be put to good use for fire suppression or in places like Detroit where abandoned properties need to be bulldozed. But, on the other hand, the small (hardly a town) police force by my lake-house got an APC and it is parked in front of their little concrete block "HQ". Why? I think their total staff is about 5 people and that includes a secretary and dispatcher. They could all fit in a car! Another lake closer to me the police got a SEAL-like assault boat. With weapons even I think. Note this lake is not on the border (where something like that could be used and is needed.) But hardly to deal with those fishing without a license or some teenagers partying or drunken boaters.

*shrug*  Good luck to you when shit hits the fan.  Good luck to us all.  I don't believe it will be a good thing for all concerned when the grid goes down, pandemic hits, earthquake, pick your crisis.

WTF?

http://www.infowars.com/homeland-security-feds-swarm-small-town-in-bizarre-unannounced-show-of-force/

I know this is coming from Alex Jones' site, but they're citing local news sources.

He is usually pretty good with sourcing news sources, pictures, or facts for his articles. The conclusions, however, can sometimes be quite suspect. That is a bizarre story. It must have been something major to have that show of force I would think. But who knows these days. I will be curious if any news comes out. Unless it is a terrorist (of course now almost anyone can be a "terrorist") I would think it would have to be public information at some point or that, at least, local reporters would be asking questions.

Neptune Beach, Florida is about 1-square mile in area.  It is located in a county with a large sheriff's department that could help in an emergency.  The highest speed limit in town is 35mph.  The police invested in numerous high speed, expensive police cars - all with window tint that  would be illegal on a civilian vehicle.  They delight in setting up radar traps on the two 35mph streets.

Yeah, I don't like all the CCTV cameras and the like but police, at least beat cops (a pun?) and traffic patrol, should have to wear them in addition to having them on their vehicles. They are now pretty cheap and storage space is cheap. When, as often happens here, the cameras "fail" (as they often do here) during a police shooting the burden of proof should be on the cop. They have the special privileges and mandate to carry weapons and enforce laws and should be held to a higher, special standard. And, guess what, they are a benefit for police also. When a suspect, a drunk, or just a person knows the interaction is on camera they might be more likely to comply or be polite. And the arrest, DUI, etc on film shown in court, or to a DA, is likely more believable than just police testimony or report. So a win-win. Only a bad cop (or those in special divisions) wouldn't want their community interactions recorded on film.

My grandparents were around in Nazi Germany.  I recall asking them when I was much younger how they did not notice people "disappearing" and being sent to the camps.  They told me something quite similar... Who notices if somebody does not come back if the police take them?  There is an assumption they were bad and would be charged or work their way through the courts.

Now, I'm certain it was, (to a degree,) justification and made them feel better using the excuse.  But, they were correct.  If Abdul next door is taken in by the police I assume he will be charged or released.  I will never question if he is being held in Gitmo and being tortured because I live in a democracy with a rule of law.  The assumption is that if he does not come back his case is working it's way through the system- not that the system now allow indefinite detention.

***No, I am not saying that I live in Nazi Germany (yet.)  Just that the law now allows for similar events.

Homeland Security Agents Raid Home to Seize Land Rover For Violation of EPA Regulations
Ok, if was an illegal car due to mix VIN# and they are going after the seller in some kind of stolen or false car selling ring. But DHS? Unless imported should that be a state matter? At least if they were trying to register it and drive in on public roads? Is the DHS now in charge of that now? And seizure and raid going after the buyer? And with an open-border to a near narco-state and cartels this is what DHS spends their time on? The priority is some couple who bought, or thought they bought, an old vehicle that didn't require the onerous emissions and safety standards?

Perhaps the Land Rover is a member of Al Queda?

They not only think that, they believe it in their heart. So much that they think they are the last line between existence and chaos!!1

The real travesty in the Law Enforcement "industry" in America is that there are a few very good cops -- but when they stay silent about cops that they know should not have a badge, then they are just as bad as the bad cops, in my eyes.

In the larger sense, that is the problem with our society as a whole -- people refusing to do what is right, for the sake of their own self-interest. The more sickening part is the number of people today that accept that as if it is the norm and the opposite is the sickness.

This applies to the Police, Obamacare, Welfare, Taxes, Insurance, the IRS, Benghazi, Fast and Furious, Wall Street, General Electric, our southern non-border, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc., ad infinitum....

The reason our country is the way it is, is because of you.

[/quoteI will bet you a doz donutz.  Those stats are accurate.  Reason being that the cops have stopped doing investigative police work and now are responding only to calls for service.   Meaning, they see a carload of caucasion kids in the varrio, in an area known for drug trafficking and they drive by instead of lighting them up.  Are the kids  lost?  Trust me, they are looking to score dope.
Meanwhile, old Mrs Johnson calls for the 3rd time that day that the neighbors dog is sleeping in her front yard, yep, call for service, there's your 3 stats, and if you are creative, you can shoot the dog for being a threat to the neighborhood.
