I thought his show thread was his sucks thread :o

I no longer listen to Coast2coastAM nor DMRN nearly at all, only for an hour the other night to see if JC would screw up and in the first few minutes he did say some dumb shit, and I rolled my eyes and then went to bed.  Now I listen to PRN radio.  I guess I'm the ONLY progressive that haunts this site, but if you want to listen to a fairly wide variety of programming built around progressive ideals, check out PRN.  If your right wing, don't bother unless you are brave enough to question your beliefs.  Thing is, there's other streams online, DMRN has potential, but I'm not wasting my brain cells on Jimmy Church any longer, he's an opportunistic, self serving, self aggrandized, audience disrespecting oaf.  Other than having a good voice (well, I'm trying to be generous and kind here), and having better skills than Noory, he still is a poor handler of guests and controversies.  If I didn't suffer such stage fright as I have, and if I didn't live in the ghetto where it is super noisy day AND night, I'd take a shot at this streaming thing, because honestly, a person with a real brain could do better.  Try and understand just how painful it is for a progressive like me to be so inundated by right wing radio media.  I respect people holding their own views, and around here a LOT of you don't hesitate to bring politics into the conversation who are right wing, but some of us aren't like you people.  PRN is just what I was wanting.   IF you are right wing, there's plenty out there for you guys already.  If you are moderate or left wing, check out PRN.  http://prn.fm/  Took me like forever to find out about it, that's why I am mentioning it, not trying to push agenda, but at the same time, I want people to know there's more out there than right wing talk and paranormal diarrhea.  Let's be honest here, most of what streams is snake oil.  Sure, it's all entertaining, like hearing Rush Limbaugh encourage men to rape women or listen to Noory ramble about burning his mouth on food, but edification and enlightenment, where one might learn something useful to help make the world a better place is another use of a person's time.  Sure, educational stuff can be boring, but at least your brain won't rot.

I don't want to offend your right wingers, I know you are in a majority here, just sharing something that wasn't easy to find at first, for those of you, IF there ARE any of you, with a like mind.

Is PRN like the Judean People's Front of NPR?  Not being American I actually only discovered NPR a couple years ago.

laserjock

NPR isn't liberal or conservative, it's a myth that it is pushed by people that want to suppress the presentation of things like real science being broadcast.  I have no idea what the Judean People's Front is.  I'm not a Jew, though at one time in my life my Jewish boss and his wife desperately wanted to adopt me as their son and convert, I was so loved (I helped save his business) and I happen to be, believe it or not, a devout Christian, though not a mainstream one, but...  It's a conglomeration of shows from quite divergent sources and issues.  Green planet stuff, Old time radio hour, agriculture methods, community activism, you name it, it's a clearinghouse of sorts in the form of an internet radio stream.  Sometimes the talk is a bit over idealistic, but most of it is pretty grounded, to my own surprise.

NPR is very entertaining, and has variety, but it's a bit light on information at times.  I liked listening to the car talk guys, but one of the two brothers just died, sadly, but that show was a blast.  What we need is the dissemination of more genuine knowledge and community building.  If you are not from the USA, we must seem pretty bizarre to you, we elect a black man for president but then allow the murder by police of a kid who is unarmed (this keeps happening over and over to black kids).  We run our mouths about freedom and equality, yet the police terrorize the citizens (I have some horror stories of my own, BACK WHEN I was conservative even!)  The USA is a pretty messed up place, if I had a choice, I'd move to Denmark, but I lack the money and the education to get invited there (I only have a degree in high tech, but only an AAS)  Yes, I'm a LASER technician, well, actually, a photonics specialist, but I'm between "good" jobs right now.  I love my country, but we are a pretty fucked up country.  Ever since Reagan, Civil rights has taken a downturn in certain sectors, and getting real healthcare is a nightmare unless you are rich or have a really good job.  It took me 3 months to get my recent surgery done and I'm losing my job because they don't understand why it took that long.  Civil rights are in the toilet here unless you've got bucks and vote the right way.  I still can't walk more than a few feet and I only have about 50 bucks for food a week, and I live in a ghetto.  It's sad, I used to serve our country's national security at the national labs, I'm very patriotic, but I'm also a realist and things have gone way downhill since the days my parents first married.  I don't know where you are from, but it's probably better than here.

Ah, cool.  Thanks for the info.   The Judean People's Front is just a Monty Python joke which people like to post on here once in awhile.  The People's Front of Judea is an organization ostensibly set up to undermine Romans but they spend more time fighting against the Judean People's Front, The Judean Popular People's Front, and various other organizations with similar names.  I just thought maybe the PRN and NPR were variations on the same theme but obviously not :)

I don't live far away.  Just north of the border so pretty familiar with things there but a little naive on some parts of the culture and system which may seem obvious.  I'm sorry for all the difficulties you're experiencing.  I've been down on my luck for quite awhile but it's more of my own making and family issues than anything and all in all I suppose my circumstances aren't too bad.  Nevertheless it has often seemed like the barriers are insurmountable.  Best of luck to you.  I hope things get sorted out.

There's at least two of us. ;) Thanks for the PRN tip. I'll check it out.

Oh, and sorry to hear about your trials and travails. Hope things look up!

PRN = premier radio networks ?

I listened to Jimmy Church once.  The moronic Mabilu "Alien Base" show. It was enough.  Another small time self-promoter, like most local talk radio jockeys  Has he no website of his own to be the receptacle for the derision that clogs the BG Recent Posts list lately?  Church seems like gum stuck on the sole of C2C's shoe.

Good point!  Except this issue is largely here due to the fine people
at Premiere, and George Noory, who once again have stirred the pot.
As such, I thought a JCS thread should exist directly under the GNS
thread, to keep the link that exists on this subject. And for symmetry.

Pardon my OCD behavior.

But seriously opening his show with George just tweeted me.
Sheesh, it was so inane I can't even remember what the tweet was.

I listen to PRN laser jock.

Pretty sure it would be impossible to peg the political leanings of this board.
It's exterior to the paradigm.

3.  Try being a coin collector, though.  When I was on those boards, it seemed like everyone was an old white conservative man.  In a thread a few years ago about whether we were getting the Boy Scouts commemorative coin, I said no and was attacked about being anti-American and anti-everything-good and why wouldn't I want it?  I responded, "Atheist and gay, take your pick."  Talk about a conversation killer ...

You have covered it all MV.
But using the "C" word was entirely uncalled for:P

Well all I see is righters vocalising a lot here.  Maybe the right wingers are more pushy then...

I think it's just that we're more inclined to notice what we disagree with.

Re: JC, I'd never listened to him before he guest hosted c2c last Sunday.   He didn't impress me much at all:  sharp enough, but in a rather generic way.  A really good radio host should be opinionated, provocative, even edgy, and a character with character.  JC was none of those things.  Just struck as "very average," for the most part.  I was quite disappointed.

True that, MV.

That's why C2C is even worse for us lefties.  While Simple Jorch thinks he has everyone fooled when he says he's politically neutral and is only looking for the truutth, he collects every right wing spokesman he can drum up as regular commentators, and the agenda he pushes is 100% right side of the aisle.

I used to write to him (when I was an Insider) and try desperately to explain to him that whether he pushed left wing politics or right wing politics, he would be irritating large numbers of people who just wanted to be entertained by the paranormal.  He never "got it," Art's blessing notwithstanding. GNS  :P

I do think that there are a few more right leaning posters (and some of the more hard right are more vocal and more active in the politics threads.)  I say this because I find myself arguing the "left" side more- and I instinctively argue whatever side I think is less represented.  I have both hard right and hard left views (and, strangely, many times they merge into one another.)

On the other hand, it could just be a symptom of a Democrat president.  It is much easier to criticize somebody in power that you disagree with.  Once (if) a Republican takes it next election it may be that the left leaning posters come out to criticize and scream.  Right now the left has to be on the defensive on the board- once they can go on the offensive we will see if I have to start allowing my right leaning personality more freedom in posting.

I have no desire or intention to push a left wing agenda, but it bothers me that, of the radio hosts prevalent on the air throughout the nation, are extremely right wing or downright lunatics.  Look at the names of the top 5 radio hosts.  Look at the top 20 radio hosts.  A couple liberals, but they are way down the list.  People are a lot less capable to think for themselves or spend the time studying issues, I constantly hear the same canned arguments that the big 5 spout off that have been disproven or discredited.

I used to be FAR right wing my own self, but I was hit by a lightning bolt of sorts that shook me down to my core a few years ago and tore assunder all my assumptions and closely held beliefs and ideals.

If these personalities were calm, rational, and literate (if they were more like John Batchelor) America would be WAY better off, instead of being run by lunatics.  The stuff that comes out of the mouths of people like Bachman (spelling here?).  Rational, intelligent types from both sides muffle the intelligent centrists and thinkers we DO need to hear from.  Even our friend during the gabcast made some right wing statements, but God forbide they get challenged.  I just want rational talk, not Alex Jones yammer, and Noory is NOT capable of addressing politics intelligently.  Even Art Bell can't do it.  The issues involving government, business, zeitgeist, etcetera are very deep issues, very complex ones, and you need very bright people who perform exhaustive study, not 3 second anecdotes.  The world is complicated as hell.  And, frankly, some of the left wing talkers aren't bright enough either.

All I want for Christmas is a non hostile working environment as I go about my day...

This

This place is bent further left than Che Guevera's spleen after it was thankfully pumped full of thirty caliber slugs.

At least a few of the lefties here have the brains to back up their balogny.   Certainly not all of them, as foaming hate is an acceptable substitute for fact or reason.  But most of the conservatives here make it easy hunting for them most of the time with daily rabbit chases.

There is a market solution to all of this if you see a problem with it.........apparently it doesn't take much talent to get on the air (Like you George Noory!) so go ahead and pick up the microphone and take a chance.........left of the Rockies......you're on the air turn down your radio.....   More than 50% of the nation keeps voting for these clown democrats, so you should have a potential audience of several million....not eve the Koch Brothers could stop you!

Do you see conservatives bitching about the prevalence of huffpo and it's progressive contemporaries?
