You guys are killing me.  Someone please back me up on DS9 here.

I tried to get into it, I really did.  I could see some true potential there, but I just couldn't get past The Ferengi.  They just bugged me, like some Star Wars prequel side character who keeps pulling you out of the story immersion by their goofy character traits and annoying smirks and how you're supposed to love them anyway because really they have good hearts after all, ugh.  Still, if you can recommend some Ferengi-light episodes I'd be willing to try again.   :)

The Ferengi were just an obvious vehicle for commentary on 80's materialism and greed.  Not a complete deal breaker for me but certainly not subtle.  That was a case where the writers were bludgeoning the viewers with their perspectives.

I know. Worse with 7of9's space melons, bludgeoning my eyes and pushing the whole 90's augumentation lifestyle

Jeri Ryan had a lot of pressure on her to keep her weight down.  While the rest of the crew were wearing costumes with padding Jeri was forced into a leotard.  I hope she has an acting gig now where she can eat.  BTW - I suspect that 7 of 9's space melons were real but I don't know.  A guy can dream right?

I always appreciated her 9 at least as much as her 7s.

I thought they were too much like the old extreme caricatures of Jews from European history books. Pogromming at its finest. I never thought they were funny or cute.

The Ferengi are what Glenn Beck calls "soulless capitalism."  It's an example of where profits and money become your number one goal, beyond anything else...  That's the best way I can think of to describe them.

Ok. You guys have inspired me to watch a few more eps of Enterprise. I think I only watched the first year. The weird thing is that I had loved Scott Bakula on "Quantum Leap" (loved that series too), and I was looking forward to seeing more of him, but I was disappointed by most of the eps of Enterprise that I saw.
Let's see if it really got better toward the end.

What you just wrote should go up in the corner. Most people love Star Trek so that is why people are posting in this thread. If the thread was about Star Trek, Bacon, and porn; the thread would take off.

I looked up Gold pressed Latinum once for the hell of it.  It's so valuable because it can't be made with a replicator.  The latinum part, that is. Gold is worthless....

76 is a good one.

The 2 favorite episodes for me where the one's about mirror mirror universe - they took a great approach to them, and I liked the incorporation of the original series show's mcguffins.  But mainly the only problem I ever had with the show was the intro music - probably why i like the 2 parter series more, it is a revamped totally Imperialistic music drum beats, the march to war stuff - it was just a unique spin on the mirror mirror stuff is all.

Well I seem to remember a GNS thread that was a thing for a while.

How bout a porn version of Star Trek where they land on a planet made of bacon?

I objected to enterprise almost before watching it. I have this long standing phobia of our entertainment media slowly enabling some sort of fascist movement by embracing too much darkness, cool, quick wit and all those flashy things we seem to associate with the sophisticated individual and tickles our ego. Some of the characters seemed too hard edged.

I'm open to watching it. I just don't have the means right now.

ST: The Next Generation is definitely my favorite Trek series, but I had mixed feelings on Season 1. Mainly, I hated the tight uniforms without collars. They really looked like leotards, and made everyone look pretty dorky - even Worf. I'm so glad they changed those wimpy uniforms and also gave Worf a "tougher" look.

What about Counselor Troi's season 1 uniforms?
Marina Sirtis called her costume in the pilot episode, the "Wendy's Waitress Uniform"

My personal favorite.  The little dresses from TOS are cool too.  I wore a red one once for Halloween, was scared to do anything but stand up, or walk in that tiny getup.  Very short.  Very.
