I'm a noob. Can someone help me root my tablet?

I'm old and clueless. I'm trying to root an android tablet. I downloaded some program which has infected my computer. Derp. Its an older polaroid tablet. Is this possible and if so, is it pointless? Someone help a miserably old fashioned, out of touch fool. Thanks.

if it's a polaroid tablet, then it probably has about zero market penetration, which means there will be very few if any custom roms out there to run on the thing.  that means if you DO root it, about the only advantage would probably be to remove certain apps you want to remove, etc... not much else.  you might be better off not bothering.
