I've been listening to the sounds of my own screams as I try to fall asleep at night.

This.  ^  A little X Files to soothe the pain.  Guess we all have the Dark Matter Flu now.   :'(

onan said, "at least we have each other," and he is right.  But I am still sad.  Not much going to happen around here (my place) today.   :'(

Sorry about your beading Lt. Uhura.

Alright, X-Files talk. I vastly prefer the mythology episodes to the "monster of the week". The season 2 finale "Anasazi" was the first episode I ever saw, and I was hooked from that point on.

Audiobooks. I have really started getting into them since the last time Art retired (or the first time...hard to keep track.) and they have filled the void.

At first I couldnt focus enough to listen properly to the longer Novels (my mind would drift) but I found that 'First Person" perspective audiobooks work great. Found some fantastic Horror (especially Zombie ) audiobooks like 'Day by Day Armageddon" and some older classics like "I am legend" and "Hell House" which were almost 'made' to be listened to via audio.

Some great nights spent around a campfire with my wife listening to scary stories. Back in the day we would pull the Truck by the Campfire and listen to C2C while gazing into the flames or at the stars, Art taking us to some frightening places. Those days are gone, but audiobooks have really helped.  =(

A band I was loading crates for had a tv with a vcr in their bus.  One night, a few dudes were stoked to watch the X Files after everything was loaded.  It was part two of Duane Barry.  They had more episodes on tape, so we watched a few until we all passed out.

I'm on the fence though about mythology vs. monster of the week.  That one episode "Family" or whatever it was called still completely freaks me out.  Some of them were over the top, but I think that's why I liked them.  Of course, being a professional paranoid... I love the mythology about the government coverups.  Always kind of thought that the Cigarette Smoking Man that knows all and sees all from dark, shadowy rooms wasn't that far off from reality.

The only episode I did not like was the one where Mulder met the vampire chick.  Which you'd think I'd be into, but, something about the way it was done was too romance-novel-ish.

Right now, season 2, Firewalker just started.  I need espresso... but... fuck.  I'm bummed out, man.  Must motivate...  :-\

some old Art stuff from the 90's and the Tim Conway Jr. show in KFI, he's pretty funny....

Oh bateman our date was going so well until you made that comment. Monster of the Week definitely trumps Mythology. I loved the earlier mythology episode but they just became a little ridiculous after a while. We can still be friends though?

Having the first of 3 thanksgiving meals today... we are having a Firefly marathon. I am still pushing for Forbidden Planet but getting nothing but the stink finger from the group... it is lonely being the purist.

Alright, that is really cool.

I'm pretty much in the same boat..
It sort of reminds me when Jerry Garcia died. I didn't listen to Grateful Dead music for several years.
Excuse me, but I am an old Deadhead

I was just a latecomer, semi-Deadhead, but I do know what you mean.  Nowadays I can listen to some old shows mostly with joy, but even now I still get a little nostalgic twinge sometimes.

After Art's recent interrupted journey I sort of drifted, sporadically and apathetically, back to The Paracast. Listened to it for years. Once in a while it's even interesting. But largely it's one wacko self-proclaimed pseudo-scientist (or journalist/author) after another debating fallacious minutia. Necessary for Paracast listening: Quick Fast-Forward trigger finger for skipping epic-length totally insane commercial breaks. Co-hosts are Chris & Gene.

TRIVIA: Back in 2006, The Paracast first year, one of the first guests was Brad Steiger. Gene had planned to call the podcast "Paracast World" but Brad suggested simply "The Paracast". And it stuck.

"Hardcore History" is pretty amazing, I think. But I'm a history buff but I like his style and interesting. Some are more audio book like. Also I enjoy "RedIce Radio" (RedIce Creations), depending on guest. But Redice host seems 1) to have read the book 2) will ask questions politely but very pertinent ones of guest and 3) brings another perspective on things from Sweden on issues.  Every so often Ground Zero is pretty good, again depending on subject but host is knowledgeable about Christianity, Mormonism, and esoterica. When in doubt old Art Bell programs or old Phil Hendrie or old Greaseman.

Came across this guy when I was looking for an alternative to C2C's horrid JFK special:

http://www.nightfrightshow.com/

He had some interesting shows - interviewed one of the Doc's that worked on JFK at Parkland and some Go-Go dancer that hung out with Ruby.

Horrid clyde lewis. Fucker is not a good radio host. But he's better than even worse alternatives.
Lewis is a loudmouth nut job but he at least cares about his show which is more than I can say for noory. Lewis is also interested in his subject matter. To bad he is a raving loudmouth fool. Even in the rants he has a good point in no one takes it seriously due to his mad man like delivery.

If I listen to anything it's old AB shows. 1382 of them. The way the shuffle plays, it's almost like all of them are 'for the first time'.

Love David Jacobs, he always ends up saying near the end of his appearance  "Art! it's 4am here". Last hour is always open lines cuz eez a sleepy boy.

Lt.Uhura

Right now on TuneIn Radio 'The Very Best of Art Bell' was Danion Brinkley (from his hospital bed), and Art just opened a line for Area 51 Employees.

Back to the old shows but you just can't beat the AB shows when they are fresh and timely. All that freaking waiting and build up for a show that lasted a month.... BAH... Annoyed. Don't think there are many art shows I haven't heard. I just can't listen to C2C in its current pathetic state.

ziznak

I need some new old AB shows.  Seems like  I've heard all of the famous shit too many times.  I keep searching for that diamond in the rough tho... that show that I thought I had heard already but then didn't... and then it blew my mind.  Wonder how that megatorrent is coming?

DanTSX

I've gone back to watching Milf porn and moneyshot compilations.

There's a guy on WABC in New York named John Bachelor. (sp?) He has an interesting format and is a real radio pro.

After hearing the first night of Dark Matter I eliminated a ton of the podcasts that I enjoyed because after hearing new content from Art it was clear that the quality and content of those podcasts paled in comparison to Dark Matter.  While I've tried to go back to those podcasts I find I'm listening with a much more critical ear and can't get back into them.  While I enjoyed Clyde Lewis' Ground Zero, he seems to have gone off the rails and become complete drivel.  So aside from fun radio like O&A and Ron & Fez and a few others,  I currently have a void in programs focused on the supernatural, paranormal and conspiratorial.

dan7800

George Noory. That guy/show sucks so bad. Knapp is ok, that is about it.

JK, Bloomberg radio mostly. Like many, I cannot stand listening to old AB shows any longer.
