Alternatives to Art

Started by somatichypermutation, November 10, 2013, 09:02:11 AM

Many have focused on radio hosts that could replace Art completely, instead I will focus on some podcasts and the like that I like, and listen to instead of radio without Art (and now maybe even after Art "returns"):

Instead of Michiu Kaku:

Podcast Starstuff out of Australia that covers the latest Astronomy news.
Podcast Naked Astronomy, much the same from Cambridge, monthly.
Podcast Into Tomorrow which covers the latest in consumer electronics (who need CCrane)
Radiolab and Big Picture Science can also be good.
I am not a fan of Kaku's own webcast and hate Neil deGrasse Tyson

1. coast to coast  (i know george noory isn't as good....but Knapp is and if that's all we have, then so be it)

2.  Howard Stern (he has great guest on sometimes...like Paul McCartney...just listen to the interviews not the rest of his show....although, the prank calls are good sometimes)

3.  joe Rogan (most of the time he has comedians on...which i don't bother listening to...but somtimes he has great guests on)

4.  TWIT (great place to keep up with tech news)

Max_TO

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History is da shit folks

Would also agree with the other posters .. Joe Rogan can be very entertaining depending on the guest and TWIT can also be very entertaining.

Look forward to seeing what some of the other members think

Max_TO

Would also add to that list a podcast called " Smells like human spirit".

His series on the book Propaganda was pretty dam cool

And hey what the heck , since Art made it fashionable to pay monthly to listen to audio we should also mention audible audio books

Coz

Check out Dr. Milt Rosenberg. He's an old guy from Chicago... a professor emeritus from Northwestern University I think. Doesn't do a lot of paranormal, but is a heavy hitter interview guy about serious subjects.

Podcast is on itunes. Website is here: http://www.miltrosenberg.com/

For Paranormal stuff, I've listened to, and enjoyed...
- Darkness Radio

- Jim Harold's Campfire, and Jim Harold's Paranormal Podcast

- Mysterious Universe

Have found Darkness Radio has filled in the gap nicely for Art over the drama of the last 10 days.  Worth a listen.  Very energetic, and tonally very different than Art - but a good listen.

Jeff Rense is actually a very good interviewer and consistently has interesting guests.  Few commercials too.

The only problem is that he is an anti-Semitic lunatic.

So depending on your sensitivity to that type of discussion, I suggest you plan accordingly.

While I feel that any anti-semetism is deplorable, I've come to accept that what we are looking for in fringe topic radio will always result in personally flawed hosts.  I'll take some of rense's anti Semites
To a point as I've conditioned myself to see it from the context of what fear, hate, and paranoia can do to a person's mind.  But if he goes on and on about it, I don't hesitate to shut it off.  Plenty of Jew blood in my family to not overlook it.

Yea, I tried Rense ~10 years ago. However, when anyone starts with bigotry like that, I cannot stand them.

One company I worked for had the Rense site blocked as a "Hate Site"

Same here but it is insanely informative if you are interested in fringe topics.

Art and George are wayyyyy late to the game on Fukushima compared to rense.  It's his pet project of sorts.

A lot of these sites and hosts hint at antisemitism but never actually say it.  Some day that David Icke's "reptilian" meme is really a metaphorical substitute for Jews.  I have to at least give credit to someone who comes right out and says what they think, than beat around the bush.

Just started listen to Joe Rogan's podcast and I'm hooked. I could do without the language, but he is a fantastic interviewer. And as a UFC fan he is a very familiar voice to me, so that helps.

I used to love listening to Rense years ago before I really realized how anti-semitic he was, but he has really gone off the rails. I like Jim Harold as an interviewer but his guests/topics are really bland. I want to like X-Zone Radio with Rob McConnell but he is almost a Canadian George Noory. A bit more intelligent that Noory, but basically does the same interview every time he has a particular guest on. I used to listen to the Kevin Smith Show almost every night, but he very sadly passed away a few months ago.

At this point, the only host in Art's genre that I enjoy is Knapp and he's never going to be more than a twice a month guy.

I am a big fan of Podcast UFO. Only an hour once a week, but Martin Willis is a genuine and nice guy that asks good questions and has had some really good guests. It is a charming show and I listen to them every Friday via podcast.

No problem!  "The Campfire" is basically like a year round episode of "Ghost to Ghost" / "Spooky Matter".

It's a fun podcast, where people just tell their stories.    Harold does a good job on curating, and simply letting people talk.

Toronto has two great hosts for all things conspiracy and paranormal.

Saturday nights after hockey games on AM640, Gary 'Spaceman' Bell (not related to Art), hosts 'A View from Space'.  Gary does indepth discussing numerology, the illuminati, ancient Egyptians, Druids and the like.  Very interesting show.

Sunday nights at 11pm on AM740, Richard Syrett, who once hosted Coast to Coast, also has a conspiracy show.  I don't listen as often as I would like since I wake up early for work, but Richard also has an interesting show.

Jim has posted here in the past. He does a great show.

Aeon Byte's Gnostic Radio Show? He's a cookie, but I find myself facinated. I like to listen to him, but I'm not zure if I would want to be his friend. (Would love to be Arts friend). I do enjoy his interviews.

Redice Radio (Red Ice Creations) is pretty good. More focus on the conspiracy side of things, religion, and esoterica than on the UFO, Bigfoot, or paranormal but interesting show and the host is a good interviewer and doesn't rant or seem disinterested in his guests or topics. He also seems to have read the material first and asks pertinent questions.

Gary is a nice guy but a complete nut with the illuminati. How he can take any subject in the news each week and make a case for it being part of the grand illuminati plan is astounding. Fun to listen to.

Just tried to go to the Richard Syrett site and it had a message that it has been hacked by the Indonesian hacker team Sundanymous with an audio message and odd scripts and messages about "hacking is not a crime" etc. So beware. Don't think it actually corrupted my computer but scanning now.

Thank you! Listening to Darkness Radio.

Hope you like it.

It's very casual - but professional, and enjoyable to listen to for sure.

The Kate Valentine UFO Show. As it's usually described, it's a good podcast, but you have to get passed the cheesy intro. RSS

Anything Ghost Show. Pretty much like Ghost to Ghost. RSS

PodcastUFO. His recent interview with Chris Bledsoe is a crazy Fire in the Sky type story I'd never heard of. May be completely bogus but still interesting to listen to. RSS

Radio Misterioso. This interview (MP3) with Tim Cridland "Scholar of the Strange" is a highlight. RSS

Gary "Spaceman" Bell (no relation, I think) was a fun show. He was big into "connecting dots," anti-Bill Gates, Illuminati, space conspiracies, Royalty conspiracies, and "numbers." And would have fun rants and do stunts like "I'm playing all commercials for this hour NOW. Stay through them and I'll do 47 minutes with no stops!"  He was summarily fired because his last show offended Joose. Canada doesn't have free speech laws but also station was corporately owned and so quickly bowed to pressure. He was taken off the air and soon after died of cancer.

69 according to the interwebs. Apparently one of those cancers that hit quick. Discovered but had already spread elsewhere and dead shortly thereafter. I guess he had a long radio career and was well liked.
