Not sure I quite get the question, but I'll give it a go... Onan would be Duncan Idaho.  GuildNavigator would be, uh, probably NOT a Guild Navigator actually....  Sardondi would be Francis 7.

aldousburbank

Ok, I'll play.
MV is Michael Valentine Smith from Stranger In A Strange Land. Therefore, we could have a GNS MVS thread.

onan

This means you have to have read a book? right?

I don't get the connection to Duncan Idaho. I think Camatoz Automat is using a guild navigator pic in his avatar right now.

Here's the explanation behind some of mine:

1: Startide Writing by David Brin.

Startide Rising is a science fiction novel and winner of the Hugo and Nebula Awards in 1984. The story features intelligent dolphins. The Writing in the clue refers to a "writer", so the member is Sci Fi Author.

2: Mad Max's Music

Mad Max is a character in series of post-apocalyptic science fiction movies set in Australia. Jazz is a type of music. User jazmunda is a user from Australia, so Mad Max's Music is jazmunda.

I would say that's Onan.

You are correct, sir.

5. gniteerg kroM reversed is Mork Greeting .5; Mork from the show Mork and Mindy used the greeting "nano-nano", which reversed and taking half of it (the .5) gives...Onan.

That isn't the user I had in mind.
The "Martin" is George RR Martin

All contestants of Name That Forum Member- win or lose - will take home a one year supply of our favorite detergent:

BUZ!

BUZ tackles the worse case of Colony Collapse Disorder, improves general well bee-ing, and gets the job done for your dirty little honey makers. It's like honey from Heaven.

When you want a stain to "not bee," you want BUZ.

Look for it at your local fine grocery store.

Sardondi

I'd like to play!....Well, that is, if, uh, I, like, knew what any of the clues were.

I'm stumped on Cam's puzzle. I'm still trying to think and hopefully I will read a post by that user and have an Aha! moment.

Here are the answers to the rest of mine:
3. Dennis Hopper's Homebase
Hopper was a pirate captain in the Sci-Fi movie Waterworld, where he used as his pirate base, a rusted out Exxon Valdez. The user is...valdez

4. The Princess' Partner in the Moon
Japanese and Chinese legend has it that there is either a Princess or a Rabbit in the moon. This is often used as a Sci-Fi trope where a Princess comes down from the moon and falls in love with a socially-awkward Japanese teen. There is also a Japanese cartoon where the main character is from the moon and named Usagi. So the partner of the princess, is the rabbit, and rabbit in Japanese is...Usagi

5. Phoxleitner 343
Boxleitner was in Disney's Sci-Fi movie Tron, user Phantasic Sanshisan uses Tron as his avatar. He replaces the 'F' with a 'Ph', so the clue replaces the first letter of Boxleitner with a 'Ph'. Sanshisan means 343.

6. Martin's Superhero virus
George RR Martin edited a series of pulp superhero/Sci-Fi novels in the mid 80s called Wild Cards. The basic idea was that an alien crash brought the Wild Card virus to Earth and this virus infected people and gave a small percentage of them superpowers, thus creating superheroes on Earth. The user is...WildCard.

7. Neuromancer's Neuro
In William Gibson's [bSci-Fi[/b] novel, Neuromancer, inside the net arises a new sentient AI. This AI is named Wintermute. The user is...Wintermute.

First, thanks to anyone who took precious grains of sand out of their day in an effort to make sense of my oblique entry.

The solution to mine:

Clue:
Wears a wrinkled suit, but eats in a timely manner.

The famous science fiction book it references:
Wears A Wrinkled suit, but eats In a Timely manner. (A Wrinkle In Time by Madeline L'Engle.)

The name of the planet where the great evil "IT" resides in the novel: Camazotz

A place in our not too distant past to eat in a timely manner: Automat

The phrase "a wrinkled suit" is a metaphor for the folds/wrinkles of the brain, which references "IT" (the "happiest sadist") as IT appears in the form of a disembodied brain. "A wrinkled suit" also references Einstein's famous steady state of clothing disarray. Einstein influenced L' Engle's writing.

Bless Madeline L'Engle. Bless my fourth grade teacher (Mrs. Hagle) who read the book aloud to the class.

It was precisely what my wrinkled suit needed.

Cam out.

That was a tough one. I have read a Wrinkle in Time, its been a while but I remember it being interesting. The little girl's father was kidnapped to another planet.

Quote from: Mind Flayer Monk on November 12, 2013, 09:48:29 PM
That was a tough one.

Yeah. Initially, it seemed clever. But it's too vague and personal, relying heavily on the word "wrinkled" being a telegraph point in a discussion involving science fiction.

Instead, my puzzle comes across like an esoteric lyric element in Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.  Or as b_dubb referenced, some kind of veiled Huxley tie in to Aldousburbank.

(even when I revealed the "answer" I inadvertently made things more convoluted by failing to specifically state the answer is CAMAZOTZ AUTOMAT in my long winded solution  Which I assume is why b_dubb was still guessing. When I reread my solution I realized it could easily be interpreted as my listing of several additional clues or directions. Especially when many are in "survival skim mode" in reaction to a certain monster thread.)

If there is a next time, I'll do better.

Can I blame it on fungus contaminated wheat I accidentally ingested?
