I live in a very small town in Washington are internet sucks we cant get higher than 10mb and its off and on ... and I am one of the users that got burnt out on the webcast with errors and such , I have a quad core computer running windows 8 16 gbs ram and I still have errors and the area I live in sucks for xm ... it cuts out and I get hardly a bar ... I have at least 10 friends and 4 relatives that listen to art in the coast to coast days and we all were unable to get anything out off xm verison of dark matter other than dloaded the archives ...

I feel Art went to bat for me and 1 year to fix the issue would have gave them enuff time to update , repair , fix whatever issues they are having ?
I also feel art should have at least finished out the month ? gave them some time to work something out ? I dunno ? but damn I was looking forward to laying in bed and reliving some youthful memories

DanTSX

Is there a problem with  satellite radio reception in your area?

I know listening to live is fun but his shows were on youtube the next day. The problem is that art didn't go to bat for you. If he went to bat for you, he'd stay and keep nudging Sirius. Oh they're being slow to address his concerns? Big deal. I'm willing to bet tens of thousands of people shelled out money for him in hopes that the old glory days were back and they all got shafted. There's no excuse for this hardball b.s.

Sorry

SpooksKFC

Well I have great internet and never got errors.  Streaming in the USA will always be touch and go as long as this country is behind the times when it comes to technology, as well everything else.  "Hey Russia?  Can we hitch another ride to orbit?" LOL

gabecolemanpl

ya I agree should have tried to work it out a little bit for sure ...just blows he quit pissed my off I even started a petition for the first time in my life lol ...

That petition has only 6 supporters.

Why are Americans using European electrical products?

gabecolemanpl

I did get a satellite radio ... hit and miss here .. and I just started the petition today it will get more or maybe not .. first time posting anything so bare with me

sign it and make it 7

toastycoasty

The petition says 'closed, with 7 signatures.' Go big or go home, hey!

FWIW, I don't understand some online petition campaigns (like this one). Petitions used to be made so that people could collect signatures and deliver it to influential people as a message - hey, look at how many people are concerned about *insert issue here*

Nowadays it's like they're just signature/information collecting exercises for websites.

What would a petition do to Sirius XM, even if they sat up and took notice of it? Art bailed out, no amount of signatures can change a stubborn mind.

In Defense of Art Bell...

I tried to explain where the real blame is on this post:  http://bellgab.com/index.php?topic=5069.3840   (top of page #129)

I hope people focus on how to make this right.

Also, why would the petition be closed so quickly after only 7 signatures?

The petition is asking Sirius to "bring back Dark Matter." The petition should be asking Art Bell to do the show again. He quit. Sirius didn't cancel him.

DanTSX

Did someone answer this?  Why couldn't you listen on a sat radio?

Jocko Johnson

In defense of Art Bell against SXM...if u still have access to the SXM acct on demand, check out SXM Opie and Anthony show channel 103 for today, 11/6 the first hr of the show-management problems...may be telling?

You are spot on!   Art Bell DID go to bat for us.  How can the show hope to succeed with all these technical problems?

Also, the petition should never have been closed.    Art did (temporarily hopefully) pull the cord ONLY after trying and trying to get Sirius to live up to their end of the bargain.

It's not Art that is at fault --- it's Sirius.   Plenty of other streaming systems have figured out how to correctly stream programs.   Sirius has the power to correct this.

Not to defend Art, but having been in the radio business before, its sounds to me like there are a bunch of old school radio guys at Sirius who just don't think that streaming over the internet is that important. When Broadcast.com first came out there were guys who flat out didn't want their stations streamed over the internet. They didn't get it. Sirius is a radio company, not an internet company. They are not putting enough resources into making streaming work.

Maybe we need a new business model here. It's 2013 now, not 1999. People want their media content in the format they want, not in the format the media wants to provide it in. AMC made sure that Breaking Bad was also available as a podcast the next day for those who didn't have cable. That didn't seem to hurt the ratings on that program. Dark Matter should be delivered on satellite, by streaming or by podcast however the listener wants it. If Sirius doesn't have the resources to make streaming work, maybe they should outsource to another company who can.

Or maybe Art needs to come at this from a new angle. Consider himself the content provider and contract with multiple carriers for his program. Cut a deal for satellite with Sirius, sign a different deal with Netflix or somebody else experienced with streaming and yet a third deal with iTunes or Amazon.com to sell podcasts of the show.

I agree, I think that Sirius and Art could have met each other halfway. Free streaming isn't part of Sirius's business model but maybe they should explore it. Art shouldn't have dropped DM so quickly, or at least been up-front about his ambitions for the show (wanting live streams, facing up the inevitable problems that come with Internet radio).

I hope the live stream works out but I'm sure it will throw up MORE problems and Art has to be equipped to meet them, by himself and not with big corporate backing (if he does this without Sirius)

I think that Sirius is missing the boat here. Netflix started out as a DVD shipping company and then became a streaming company. It's the same content either way. You can get it however you want it. In addition to Art Bell, Sirius also has Howard Stern, Opie and Anthony and a whole lot of other stuff. Could you imagine what they could be if you could get all this stuff streamed or podcast in addition to satellite. They could broadcast internationally. Not just in the US and Canada, and yes, they could charge for it. People in other countries want American style entertainment. Sirius is leaving money on the table here.

gabecolemanpl

To answer no I could not get reception from where I lived it would work for 10 ten mins on then 10 off .

And when all is said and done, you will be right back to listening in  ;) How do you manage living a happy life with such unfounded hostility and severe lack of patience? Its truly disappointing we as humans have not yet grown up as a whole with so many out there / in here just like yourself dragging the rest down. Sirius is refunding, walmart also for radios... seriously quit whining, get your money back, and go listen to snoory or something.  :P
