Did anyone notice the first CCrane commercial last night?

Job

It was a pre-announcement:

"Do you listen to “Dark Matter”?  Do you enjoy it?  I know many of you do, but you may not have found the right radio yet. Well, congratulations! Tonight, you have found the right radio.  It’s called “The Grace Victoria WiFi Internet Radio.”

Now listen very, very, very carefully.  It will allow connection to your current Internet Sirius XM account so it works with XM. (whispered) Maybe. ..."

Would he want people to rush off and buy a $200 radio for nothing?  It's a done deal.  Also, check out the 5-year expiration dates on the "on-demand" Dark Matter shows.  That wasn't always that way.

you know this is very interesting...

I just listened, I think he says "It works with XM, baby." Not "maybe"

It was 7:30 into the show. I'm not thinking it means anything at this point. The "maybe" was  the only thing that made it suspect, but he definitely says "baby"

Apologies to all.   Guildnavigator is right.  I listened again and the word is "Baby".  I still don't think we're in danger of losing Art.

The only thing he forgot to mention is that it only plays XM when it is repeating Steelbot's stream!   ;D ;D ;D

I have a bit older, slightly less expensive, model of the Grace radio.  It works very well on SiriusXM and other Internet radio streams.  It's a bit of a kludge, but if I set my location to another city, I can then listen to local stations in that city, too.  The speaker is large enough to sound good and to have enough volume to fill a room.

Of course, with all the AB fans out there downloading, streaming and posting the shows on You Tube there is no expiration date. Even if Sirius and Art block the posts, the audio of the shows is out there somehow.
It's almost like being in the Maquis in WWII. The AB underground passes the audio along to each member of the cell. But in this case, there's no secret police to stop us from doing it.
Not yet anyway.

I was thinking that it would be fun if someone had the electronics knowledge to do so to take an old tube radio with a wooden cabinet and put one of these new radios in it and have the old dials light up and the like so you'd have the feel of an old radio with new technology in it.
Now if someone could only invent a time travel radio where you could turn the dial and listen to Gabriel Heater, or HV Kaltenborn or Lowell Thomas when they used to bring us the news back in the ancient days ... probably before many of your times.

Here's one site relating to those old broadcasting microphones.

Yes, we'd all like that . . .

"Static" - from The Twilight Zone

[opening narration]

Narrator: No one's ever saw one quite like that, because that's a very special sort of radio. In its day, circa 1935, its type was one of the most elegant consoles on the market. Now, with its fabric-covered speakers, its peculiar yellow dial, its serrated knobs, it looks quaint and a little strange. Mr. Ed Lindsay is going to find out how strange very soon - when he tunes in to The Twilight Zone The Art Bell Show ! !

An old radio is taking bitter 'bachelor' Ed Lindsay back to a happier time before what he considers worthless tripe on television when he starts picking up radio programs from the 1930's and 1940's.

It's really pointless for Sirius, or any company to prevent downloads of any audio, or video these days.  Anyone with even a basic computer can record and post it within minutes of it being broadcast.
