They cleaned up a lot of posts but I don't think they blocked any of us yet.

That awkward feeling when you realize you spent more time following this thread than if you had the actual shows to listen to.

How is your dad doing? Is there a chance he can come out of it?

I don't know. Nobody seems to know. He's awake but just looks at people. Doesn't respond. Blinks and squeezes our hands, but doesn't really show recognition of people. They believe his right side is going to be paralyzed at the very least. Not sure how extensive the brain damage is. I hate to think of him as a vegetable-type, but damn, it might be worse to be trapped in your head and not able to communicate.

This is the only place I'm probably ever going to tell anyone this, on an anonymous forum, but my dad was a raging, kind of violent alcoholic, and this accident happened when he got wasted the other night (well, damn, now we're going on 10 days ago), fell down and cracked his head on the door frame on the way down. So as always, the range of emotions I'm feeling goes from grief to being mad as hell at him. And guilt, because when I was a kid â€" and even recently, as a broke, unemployed adult with the shame of having to move back in with my parents while I try to get on my feet and get my shit together â€" whenever he would come home from a bar, wasted and screaming and breaking things and violent as hell, there were nights I would sit in this room and pray that he would fall down the stairs and crack his head open.

So, jesus, it finally happened.

It's that typical story: When he was sober, he was the funniest, most awesome dad to us and husband to my mom that you could ask for. When he was drunk, well, best for everyone to get the hell out of Dodge for a while.

So I guess I'm mourning the sober part of him. And for my mom. They've been married for 43 years. Despite it all, they were best friends. She's beside herself with grief.

Sorry. That was a book. And way off topic. Didn't mean to blurt that out. This whole "he fell down in the middle of the night" lie we're telling everyone is kind of killing me.

Be careful what you wish for, kids.

Enough of the emo. Um, free Art Bell! (laugh)

Didn't mean to hijack the thread with that gloom. I feel better, though - like I've been to confession! So thanks! What was that hilarious "Our Father" Art Bell prayer you guys made up about 200 pages ago? Someone needs to gold-plate that one. And I'll go say 10 of those now and call it a day! :)

QuoteHere's what I sent to Drudge Report:

#FreeArtBell from his non compete clause from SiriusXM ! Sirius refused to allow streaming of Bell's new show Dark Matter on SXM which was promised and was a contractual obligation, so Art left the show. Immediately, Sirius installed Coast to Coast, a program Art originally created
in its place. They not only allowed C2C live streaming, but also simultaneous broadcasting in over 500 markets. Bell's fans and legal team view this as an underhanded move, particularly with the no compete in place for the next 2 years. It is (again) a sad story of a large corporation squelching the independent lone voice. We feel this story fits with the Drudge content, and would appreciate you passing the message!

I ache when anybody has to go through stuff like this -- and we all do, to some extent.  I know you weren't soliciting condolences, but just wanted you to know (as others have) that you're not alone.  Glad you were able to get it out.

Now back to the cheery, uplifting posts on BellGab!

I guess the best thing to do is to make sure you forgive yourself for the things that have been left unresolved. I only say that because I lost my mother a while back and had some similar feelings. Stay strong and forgive yourself.

...lastly I still stand by my offer to him (as I did when he was first on Dark Matter) to invite him on Coast to Coast to discuss his new show, etc. ...
Don't give up hope dude.  Art Bell appeared on the Gabcast so he just might appear on lesser shows.  You never know.  Keep working on it.  I think it would be a tremendous asset to your ratings.  A lot of people  would listen if they had advance notice (date, time, show name, host name, URL for your podcast, etc).  Then they'd know what a nice guy you really are.  Good plan.

Excellent advice!  And allow yourself to grieve through this process.  I was in denial when my parents were sick/dying, and never addressed the feelings of guilt or loss.  After their death, it took its toll -- debilitated me for a couple of years.
