Art Bell Quits Dark Matter

Uncle Duke:
If true, it's no surprise Sirius saw a drop in subscription surge after Art's listeners' trial run expired.   Not because of the drop-outs/technical issues Art talked about, but because quite frankly the show wasn't very good.  His guests were either retreads selling the same old tired stories, or they were hacks/goofballs/droners not ready for prime time.  I'd already made the decision to not sign up for a paid subscription for that reason.

This.  I've listened to Art since '93 and signed up for the 30 day free trial with credit card expecting to listen to Art for the next three years.  However, after the first two nights I was through as I had no interest in any of the guests scheduled.  Especially after hearing Art announce future guests, i.e., Ed Dames comes to mind as does Paglini (sorry if that's misspelled).  At that point I called and cancelled my subscription.  Wonder how many other potential listeners did the same?

Well you certainly gave it a heroic go! Two nights, and one week of guests, and a cancellation before the end of the free trial. Exhaustive!

Some here will tell you they'd pay to listen to Art carry on a deep conversation with a wall.  Obviously, they're a dedicated minority.  There's only so much even a skilled interviewer can do with bad, tired guests and topics.  And if those guests are appearing on C2C, which is free... then no wonder about the subs dropping off.

...I suppose this illustrates how volatile, foolish and  irresponsible I was. As I reflect on it now, I think I could not appreciate a good job when I had one. The job I walked away from at WAVZ was a coveted position for nearly anybody interested in rock radio music... but I was intolerant, maybe even a little arrogant...

And a bit later on...

Quote
...When I asked her for my job back she declined to let me have it, her pride was just too great. I would not be put off so I just kept calling her. Every time she got back on the phone I told her, "I wanna get back, I wanna get back on. I know I made a mistake." I grovelled. I wanted to get back on... no, she would say. I continued to call her every day. Would she ever admit she made a mistake? No. I swallowed my pride and told her I made a mistake. It's true, I gave her an ultimatum and I should never have done that. She doesn't like ultimatums, never responds favorably to them and I knew it. I explained to her that I never should have left. I grovelled. Finally she called me and said, "Alright, damn it, come back."

My expectation for a weekly paranormal radio guest list is one fraud, one self-delusional, one bouncy female hocking something shiny, and a pair of young amateur ghost busters.  I'm usual not disappointed if the fraudster is especially convincing, nor if the delusional is batshit crazy enough to make it entertaining, nor if the bouncy shiny hucksters hook up with the young buck ghost busters.

It's all about expectations.

So I hire this guy (lets call him Art) to help me with my landscape business. A couple weeks later I hear he (Art) is publicly slamming my business by telling all customers and potential customers how crappy my tools are. Next thing I hear is he (Art) is telling my customers that I should just give away free yard services for a year until I get my tools up to par. I say no, he (Art) quits. Now he (Art) wonders why I won't return phone calls ... (Sorry Art, but you left a bad taste in my mouth on how you handled that)

I have just removed the Indie channel from my favorites on the App. That's how confident I am that Sirius will say no. I'm happy to be proven wrong and I will gladly reinstate the Indie channel to the favorites.

All the hero worship of him that's gone on for years is looking sillier and sillier....

From what I've read, some here could walk into their homes and find Art Bell butchering their family and be thrilled he knew where they lived.

I'm in for a year, but, on the plus side, my wife enjoys the music in her car.

Are you saying that you can't search them through Google or that they're not on youtube?

Art has sunk to a new low.  He made a commitment to Sirius/XM and by extension all of us who subscribed and he turned his back.  I resubscribed to Sirius/XM last August specifically on his account.  His s*** doesn't stink and he doesn't care who knows it.  Instead of leaving sleeping dogs lie, he tries to make a comeback and makes a mess of it and leaves a lot of bad feeling in its wake.

Smooth move Art!

Im saying something is funny. C2C was available all over you tube before Art quit...now they are all gone. Only arts show is available. SXM is close with google who owns You Tube....I wonder of Premier partners with any of these guys.

I think they call it "fan psychosis," and there's plenty going around on here.

This is a great way to put things. However, if he's the best landscaper in the business you will eventually answer his calls. Especially after the next guy you try kills your grass.

I think Art vastly overestimates his importance and he seems bound and determined to prove it.  How many bridges must you burn before you understand?

Actually I think it's just him saying he hasn't heard yes/no from them yet.  Once they tell him no you won't see this anymore.  He made an offer to them and he said they told him they'd get back to him, and they didn't yet.  I don't see what the problem is.

Looks like C2C will get what had been scheduled for Dark Matter on 11/5

Skycar Inventor Moller To Make Important On-Air
Announcement

Dr. Paul Moller to make an announcement on the new Art Bell “Dark Matter” radio show regarding the future of Moller International and the Skycar air vehicle

Davis, CA, October 22, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) â€" Paul Moller, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors for Moller International, Inc. (MI) (OTC-QB: MLER), and developer of the Skycar®, a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capable, high-speed light aircraft announced today that he will be making an important announcement regarding the future Moller International and the Skycar volantor air vehicle on the “Dark Matter” radio program on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. The radio program, part of the SiriusXM Satellite Radio network is hosted by veteran radio host Art Bell, and can be heard from 10 PM to 2 AM Eastern Time (7PM to 11PM Pacific). The show is available to satellite radio subscribers, or available for free on the Internet at http://www.siriusxm.com. The Dark Matter program marks a return to the air of popular radio host Bell, and even though he’s interviewed him many times previously, marks the first time that Dr. Moller will appear on Bell’s new radio program.

Dr. Moller will be Bell’s only guest for all four hours of the program, and listeners are encouraged to write to the show with any questions for Dr. Moller or call in to their toll-free listener line to ask questions on-the-air on the day of the broadcast.

Dr. Moller is also scheduled to appear on several other programs throughout the month of November; however Dark Matters is the first program to interview him following his official announcement.

I appreciate Art keeping us in the loop. I am not sure why he does. It might be manipulative, perhaps a bit of guilt. But I don't know. I think Art is just like everyone else, sometimes he makes a good decision and other times not so much.

He certainly doesn't need to come here and tell us anything. I am quite certain he has financial security. I am sure he can find other ways to keep his "hobby" alive.

When he gets another show I will most likely listen.

I would sooner give my credit card to a street hooker than Sirius/XM.

Dump that chump.  He has demonstrated that he has no integrity.  He made a deal and a few weeks later it's not good enough for him anymore.  All the while he was ripping George a new a****** over those few weeks, he made it clear who the a****** really is in the end.
