Just for the record: This year's Spooky Matter was also the first ever. I think Art is conflating Spooky Matter with Ghost to Ghost.

I wouldn't if I were him.  I mean all the hate and venom spewed over this thread is just too much.  These are supposed to be his fans?  I mean it's ok to pissed off, I can get that - I'm extremely disappointed myself.  But to say the ugly profane horrible things that have been said here, I just feel so embarrased that Art had to read any of that.

You know, I think some so-called fans here, they're like the homeless guy on the street, who are all smiles when they think they might get a few bucks off you, but as soon as you politely decline they rant and scream "Fuck you!".

I hope Art comes back in some way.  I really do.  I think even though this didn't work out he really wanted to do it for the right reasons, and that's good enough for me.  (Yes I'm still sad about it, but I don't hate the guy for it.)

Amen to that!!  :(

Looks like Sirius has already replaced Art's spot in the lineup starting this weekend.

"Fans regard Bell as a master showman, noting that he calls his show "absolute entertainment" and expressly says he does not necessarily accept every guest or caller's claims but only offers a forum where they will not be openly ridiculed. His calm attitude, patient questions, and ability to tease substance from nebulous statements of callers and guests gave his show a relaxed yet serious atmosphere." [source wikipedia]

Such a great shame that it seems that his loudest 'fans' could not offer the same to Mr. Bell.
When a fanbase turns into a lynchmob over an incident to where the full facts are still unknown, it reveals more of the true character of those who claim to be what they are not and in this case, certainly not devoted fans.

Are lynchmobs like these being born from sports team fanbases? The fans of sports spend -way- more money in going to the games, buying the gear, buying season tickets, paying for TV outlets where their teams games are only televised, yet do we see the same vicious attacks, threats and regret when their team loses?
No. These sports fans continue to buy the tickets, go to the games, watch the games on tv and pay over the odds at the stadiums for  concession foodstuffs and parking.

I find it quite a folly to hear people criticize Mr. Bell over his actions and to claim his reasons were due to money and in turn it is the fanbase that is using the same 'excuse' to inspire their angry vengeance towards Mr. Bell.  Mr. Bell did not force anyone to subscribe to Sirrus or buy the equipment. People made their own choice in this. Everyone took a gamble.
There is no amount of money that could even come close to justifying the negative treatment that Mr. Bell has received from this forum. I am not referring to the loyal fans or the quiet listeners by the aforementioned statement, so I'm not painting everyone on this forum with the same brush.

Mr. Bell is a human being. He has a right to be treated like one, just like everyone has the same right.
Do not blame Mr. Bell for doing what -he- thought was best, based on his own principles of which I admire him greatly. A person can't blame another of which they put on a pedestal.
Was more time needed for things to progress naturally, perhaps, but in this case it would seem that it was the fanbase that should have given Mr. Bell more time in letting the man explain himself without forcing him to do it to a bunch of raving people who acted wrathfully instead of compassionately.

I'm not directly placing blame on anyone or anything, just that there have been a set number of things happening at once which was in no one's direct control. It's called Life. We enjoy what we have whilst we have it and recongise that when we don't have it anymore we'll miss it, but we are better off for having it at least for a glimmering moment, moments that can be cherished for the rest of our lives. Don't accept only the good of a person, one must also accept the faults for that equals true devotion and admiration of which I think that many fail to realise.

Kind Regards,
(the quiet listeners)

Thank You!

With deepest respect, we have a reason to be pissed.  Accordingly, some of us use this forum to blow off steam and to let our thoughts be known.  Nothing wrong with that.  As with all things the heat of the moment will die down and so will our collective indignations.

Curtis and I will be doing The Spec Sheet podcast at 7PM central. Art's departure will probably be at the top of the discussion list during this episode, so we encourage you all to listen live and call in at 573-837-4948. You can hear the show live at ufoship.com. Log in to enter the chat room, but you don't have to log in if you only want to listen.

I'm feeling a little despondent today. Not because Art is gone but because I contributed to an apparent crap fest.

FWIW I thought Spooky Matter was great too.

Jaz we are all feeling despondent BUT by no means should YOU or any of the other people that called in to dark matter, posted here, or emailed Paul about the stream dropping should feel responsible for Art taking the actions he did.

We are his fans, we don't control or dictate the direction he takes the show in. It takes time to build up a huge audience on any medium. If Art felt six weeks was enough, then that's his choice, but it's not. Six months would of been fair but six weeks is not enough time.

I felt bad yesterday that I had emailed Paul about the stream dropping but then today I thought clearly about it and there is NO reason this whole situation couldn't of been solved in time. Six weeks is not enough time.

HorrorRetro

I've listened since '93.  I found the DM shows to be good.  I never had a problem with the callers to to DM. Some of the guests were subpar though.  Throughout all my years of listening, I was never in it for the callers.  They were a minor and sometimes irritating part of the show.  I was in it for the interviews with guests like Graham Hancock.  I've had satellite radio for a decade now.  I've never had problems with it, and I never had significant streaming problems, even when listening on my Kindle, which was my main streaming device I used for DM.  Yeah, it dropped maybe three times during the entire time DM was on.  Big whoop. I restarted the app and kept listening.

I'm not understanding the whole "my base was gone" issue.  The base that was aware of the show was listening until last night. Some of the prior listeners from years ago probably hadn't heard that Art Bell was back on the air.  You need time to build up a show from scratch.  And it was essentially being built from scratch, after Art hadn't been on the air in years.  It also takes time to iron out technical issues.  Six weeks is not enough time to ditch it all. It was clear new listeners were tuning in because they'd state they were new to him and his show, having heard adverts on Sirius, so that was a whole new base that could have been formed.

I'm not surprised at this whole turn of events.  I'm disgusted though.  Our family really enjoyed DM and were prepared to listen for years to come.  I will not cancel Sirius.  I'm extremely disappointed that the rest of us have been cut off due to the complaints of a "few hundred" others.  Art was fond of saying that Sirius reached up to 27 million subscribers.  So was it wise or rational to ignore those potential millions of listeners due to a few hundred people who griped about minor technical issues?  It makes no sense to me.

finally read Art's post - I wish I was on the board when he was here.

Art, if you read the board at some point again, and you read this thread, I just wanna say a few things...

first of all, I hope that you can work things out with Sirius. if you do, DON'T "hide" from the caller criticism that is sure to come.

FACE IT. show some humility. admit that this was not the way to handle it. people forgive.

they have forgiven you in the past, and I am sure they will this time, too.

but don't assume that this forgiveness is infinite. there is a limit. and you are dangerously close to reaching that point.

give the show some time to find it's legs. don't expect so much, so soon.

success is possible, Howard Stern has proven that.

just come back.

please.

Are you his 1st wife?

Nope, just known Art since Okinawa. And I followed him ever since. And everything he says especially since his childhood days tells me the same thing. Art never changes folks. He is a great talker, but he cares about nobody except himself. And he proved this over and over again for decades. The only way you can convince Art to do anything is to convince him how great it is for him and that is the only thing that will work. Telling Art that he has millions of fans just doesn't mean anything to him. Sorry, but that is the truth.

The last straw was a complaint on the motherfucking internet????

Isn't Art PRETTY REGULARLY bragging about his thick skin?

Again, a very weak individual who has almost no character. I don't like George's presentation or laziness but you know what? He shows up. He "tries".

Art quits. Over.  and over.
and over.

And over.

And over.

Personally and professionally. A very weak individual.

What a bunch of foul mouthed disrespectful tantrum throwing little shits on this forum! @Art Bell, dont waste your time reading more than half the dung posted here.. Do your thing, your TRUE fans are here for you and can only hope this all works out. Just please do not base any decision on what you read here in the negative cesspool call bellgab, these bipolar lunatics arent worth the read.

They should really stick to their hate threads, at least they are good at something.. All I know is this forum sure as hell does not represent the majority of your fans.

Welcome to trollgab.com you people are pathetic.

You're vaguely lovable. How awesome is that? You remind me of a 13 year old boy defending a console.

Remember, when you cancel your sub(if you subbed just for this), refer to the reason. Maybe it will help with his tantrum about streams, or is it complaints on the internet??? Which one will he land on as a reason? No one knows.

Be sure to cite it though.

No slice and dice here. Your show, including Spooky Matter was wonderful each and every night, Art. You brought issues (fuki.) to the fore that are extremely important that no one else would address. I'm a listener & fan since early 90's and took advantage of "pirated reruns" during your hiatus. So, to me, callers are simply not an issue at all. I hope you and Sirius will forge a compromise.....it seems they've been quite fair, but I'm a subscriber anyway. Please, do come back!

Fucking hell.  Stfu

Another thing that comes to mind, searching posts here, is Art doing the weird voice that sounds like someone with a speech problem when he was quoting people who were having problems finding stuff on the site, or were having streaming issue, or anything really.

He made fun of anyone who had a legitimate issue with the immature, school yard dumbed down voice tone. He's a real piece of work.

ItsOver

Christ.  I came to DM for a paranormal escape. Instead I got ABC's Sunday night soap opera crap fest.

Hi,

I've been planning on getting on here to try and answer some of the questions posted
but the thread has been growing faster than I could manage and the level of hostility,
anger and plain meanness has kept me from answering anything other than a few PMs.

All that being said,  I'm here, not to be insulted or to listen to Art be bashed, but
to answer any questions as best I can.

At your service,
