I too thought Art was going to educate those who didn't know how a real show should be done. But like clockwork, Art pulled a Bell again and they will never know.  >:(

Btw, speaking of your avatar... I have no problems with people with no teeth or anything. But it does remind me of a blind date I had once and she must have dropped something in my drink. As I had no memory of the next two weeks and I was found naked in an alley. So it kind of creeps me a little.  :-[

Women with no teeth have a very specific role in life.

Art came back out of spite (well-placed spite, but spite nonetheless), thought the show was going to have the same audience as the Coast days, and when it didn't he chose to run away rather than build up the audience.

On his first night back, he said that nothing bothered him more than being called a serial retiree. Less than 2 months later, he absolutely validated that label. That is not even debatable at this point.

^^ This.  If Art was willing to be patient, work several more months to iron out the supposed "problems" (which I suspect are being grossly exaggerated to save face), work at teaching his audience how to use the Sirius app well (there is a learning curve, but it is so mild:  anyone, other than those whose brains freeze up if they have to work out a tech issue on the computer, could deal with the minimal drop-out issues if Art had taken the time to spend time on the air addressing them, and helping people figure out how to deal with them.  I did, and it only took seconds, and I am not all that tech savvy.

Frankly, I think Art just didn't want to deal with the issues that sprang up, and chose to use them as an excuse to depart rather than work through them with a tiny bit of effort on his part, and the patience of the time it would have taken to build up an audience again.

More from "our friend" casio.

Say what you will about Casio, but he's straight up right about Art could easily be a youtube partner and make tens of thousands a month just broadcasting a commercial free show.

Right... but ONE GUY doesn't do it for himself. Art Bell will not successfully stream privately. Will. Not. Happen.

Also, my post is written for non IT people. If you want to get really technical. I'll bury you!

Wouldn't Ustream be a viable route?  For the non flaky radio personality that actually *wants* to do a show and honor an audience, that is.

Looks like Produce Paul has logged on....

If you think Ustream can do better than Sirius... you're dreaming. Especially with huge numbers.

My thoughts on listening to Art Bell again

ooh! ooh! Where is that clip from, please?

I love it! Reminds me of my second engagement

There are a TON of options for live streaming online. If Art doesn't want to do it on his own there are lots of streaming networks / podcast networks that would die to have him on board with them that would do all of the heavy lifting.

Even if Art did come back with a new Dark Matter episode, it wouldn't be the same after this whole ordeal. He's burned SiriusXM management and loyal fanbase and can blame no one but himself. It's probably better if he cut the "stay tuned..." messages and just rode off into the sunset at this point. Still waiting on that apology, Mr. Bell.

I agree with the rest of you that think the reasons given don't make much sense, maybe he has to say it this way to help him get out of his contract. Maybe once the honeymoon period ended he just figured he'd made a mistake, and wanted a quick way out; to not spend his later years working so hard, for perhaps little reward in well-trodden territory.

I'd love to see the actual figures for his audience.

Seriously. Thank you for supplying these numbers.

I am not sure why Art did not do the math before he came back from retirement... but he may not have been in a position to be capable of realizing that something like twenty-million people would like to listen to Art live now.

Dream on, kids, bandwidth isn't free.

Judging by the website that was deployed at Artbell.com, Art's IT people probably don't have the skill to accurate consult with him about these things.

As an engineer who has actually deployed a high capacity icecast system onto private hardware... my head simply spins at the issues brought up by private streaming. It would not be better than Sirius- even with a 3rd party provider.

As I said before.... the only two companies that could handle Art's show are Sirius or Google.

He's 68 and likely doesn't have that great a grasp of the technology.  I've a feeling Sirius likely promised him the moon, and being eager to come back and get a little revenge, he got a bit duped.

Just my opinion, but he knew everything. He has lawyers, he's a smart man, he knew and explored the capabilities and procedures that Sirius offers.

Art belongs on AM radio.
Art "may" belongs on AM radio, but if he does comes back on AM/FM radio. When will he quits AGAIN? Art=QUITTER in my book now. Fuck you Art the QUITTER.

Since only a small percentage trust Art now, he might have to settle for Ham.  ::)

I'm not dreaming, I'm asking.

I think Art's huge numbers are probably a myth.

Dont know if this has been brought up, but does anyone think Art got tired of Coast poaching his show or perhaps he thinks that his show was losing in some way to Coast as another reason for his ragequit?

Yea... and if I hear him on the bands I might actually key up and give him a piece of my mind!

You won't get them, SiriusXM doesn't report listener figures by channel except internally.

maybe he realised that he'd never get anywhere near his old audience size, even after years of work, and freaked out.

Thanks.

The avatar is Anne Hathaway with no teeth. I found it amusing, and although it's nowhere near as good as DanTSX's Max Hardcore avatar, I like it ok. :)

Although he does have legitimate complaints regarding Sirius, giving them an ultimatum was not the right way to go about things. If I was running Sirius, I'd tell him not to let the door hit him on his ass on the way out.

You think HE got duped? Gotta disagree there, and I believe he has an excellent grasp on technology, especially for someone almost touching 70 years of age.
