Oy! It's been a long night. I feel like I just got gang-banged at length by a cabal of demonic, reptilian imps driven on by a whip-wielding, leather-clad Noory. Think I'll hit the sack now. Maybe it was all a bad dream...

any theory as to what kind of contract Art had with Sirius?

One that explicitly fucks the listeners, all of us, by name

This has not been mentioned, but maybe Art will come back on KNYE for a four hour program with limited commercial interruption AND stream on artbell.com live for free with a paid plan for the archives.  It could be the start of a new syndicated show that could grow from one station to who knows how many.   You guys don't even know the possibilities here.  This could be a great thing - tune into your local radio station and hear Art again, rather than pay for him on XM.

None of you will probably believe me, but I emailed the gal who owns KNYE maybe a month or two before the announcement asking if she knew if Art was planning a comeback.   I had no idea he was.   She responded and said it was Art's business to answer questions like that.    Maybe we should all email her and this idea will become a reality.

Could anyone please link me to some streams - preferably that can be listened to on iPhone ? I love the tunein stream but I've listened to it to death - inevitable replays of the guy who cashed the fake cheque, Greer and so on. Thanks ;)

Just search youtube for classic art bell and you'll find a lot of great shows.

Wishful thinking on your part.
Do you really think Sirius would just let Art quit only to broadcast elsewhere without it taking action in some manner to protect their interests ?
I'm certain he had some kind of non compete clause as well as he did with Premiere otherwise ALL of the Sirius radio hosts could walk off the air whenever they felt like it.
And Art, for all that he was, is no Jack Paar, who had the clout to walk off on live tv and stay off for awhile until the network caved in and he came back.
And yes, I and my parents saw that moment live as well as did millions of viewers.

This is kind of a creepy post.

Seconded. I think BellGab might be a bit over saturated with dudes (I'm not but I don't want to post up photos/personal details).

Where in the heck are you, Mars ?

Falkie,  what "interests" does SiriusXM have in the Dark Matter show?   Nothing.  It's not like they have some big ad revenue stream they're going to lose.   And you think Art is that stupid that he'd sign a non compete he couldn't get out of one way or another?    I vehemently disagree with you.   My thinking may be wishful, but it is also with the knowledge that Art used to own KNYE, and sold it to a friend of his.   It's not far fetched to think some kind of deal is in the works, as Karen is currently broadcasting C2C from 10pm-6am, and she's not tied into Premier the way other stations might be that are forced to carry C2C.  Furthermore, she probably wouldn't have to pay Art to be on the station, as opposed to what she's paying C2C now.  Plus, she's local to Art, she'll get the "scoop" of Art being back on terrestrial radio so it will help her station.   Like I said, it's just a thought, but maybe it will become reality.   For the record, if this happens, I want to be the one who called it!

Many of you are mad now.  Art will not forget his true fans.  He'll find a way to make it up to you one way or another.  He's not an asshole.

What interests ?
Whom are you kidding ?
Advertising revenue.
Saving face after spending time, effort and money to promote his show.
Paying AB $ 75,000 to do the show plus giving him a percentage of ad revenues for the show.
Spending $3 million for a studio in Art's home for him to do the show.

Do I need to add to the above ?

I had sort of a back-and-forth email conversation last night with Art..

He said that Sirius did not want him to explain his departure on the air .. He said 'its worth a try' when I asked if calls to Sirius would help. And on that web show that Sirius buzz reported? He sai 'not at this time'

area51drone

Oh come on.   There was no ad revenue stream from Dark Matter.   I'm sure they only paid him for the time he was on the air.    I had not heard about a 3 million dollar studio, and I *highly* doubt that's the case.   If they purchased any equipment for him, they'll get it back I'm sure.   I don't think there is a thing on his property that is worth 3 million.  Wasn't there a picture of his broadcasting station, it was like a couple PC's.  You're smoking something, my friend.

Oh Art!

Anyone have a purple blanket and a pair of Nikes they can spare? I promise to only use them once...

No surprise they wouldn't want him to say "Uh, guys, Sirius lied to me, they're not as great as they claimed."     They wouldn't have gone fishing for Art to come to them if they weren't already headed in a downhill spiral in the first place.   With backend knowledge you and I don't have, Art probably sees this coming and he's getting off the bandwagon while the getting is good.   As for the stream, of course he's going to keep his cards close to his chest and not announce it right now.

Now you are just being mean.  (says the guy who called Luna a 3'3" midget)

Art quit. Plan and simple. Sirius was NEVER going to allow free streaming (for various reasons).

Not enough callers? Make it a 2-3 hour show. Do it 2-3x/week instead of 4. Improvise, make things work. Instead, Art took his ball and went home.

How will Art doing a stream on his website fix this? Whatever he charges for will be pirated. No paid model will work.

I loved listening with my physical Sat radio and not needing a device.

We are sorry that Dark Matter on SiriusXM has come to an abrupt end. We'll examine our options and may be able to return in a different format and medium.

In the mean time, ArtBell.com will still operate as long as financially possible, hoping for a workable solution to bring Art back to you, soon. Keep checking back here often.

"If it's too good to be true, it probably isn't".

That sums it up for me.  It was great for him to be back on air, but too good to be true.  Oh, how soon it ended.

Its Sirius or nothing with his 2 year non compete clause.

Someone needs to update his Wiki page, haha... or just wait another six weeks
