I paused there and squinted. I hate the HuffPo like I hate Walmart.

(And WTF is that with nobody spelling their names out anymore? Too many syllables? HuffPo, NatGeo, MoTab. Give me a freakin break.)

It is called "Intentional Retardation".  It is when small minds prefer small words that convey small concepts in a small amount of time.

I'm disappointed, yeah, but not entirely shocked.  I have enjoyed the recent shows and the build-up to when they started.  Today, not so much.

But....what I'm really curious and concerned about is whether there were people who quit perfectly satisfying (or otherwise) jobs to go full-time with Art and are now left out in the cold.

Me....I just need to find some different entertainment.  No biggie.

I will soon be unemployed and losing my home to move in with family, so after my free trial ran out I found other means of listening.  Does Art consider me part of the problem?  My only alternative was to not listen at all, and right now I wish I hadn't wasted my time.

Art, it will soon be midnight in the desert, and we aren't listening tonight.  How does that feel?

You along with millions of other Americans will soon be part of the ultimate solution. Stay strong. The media-climate has been changing for almost 15 years. Keep on pushing us to deliver new and interesting content for less. Passion wins and profit sins. As a musician, I will die fighting, and rest assured, I will die, hopefully at the hands of a more passionate person willing to give more for less.

It was a problem on c2c. It was a problem on DM for Art bell.

Noorie has the same issue but he just lets his callers ramble.

That man was a master rambler! It was worse that I didn't even CARE what the point was after a while.

Speaking of writing, I'm also a member of that fellowship...I had a piece published in a local paper last month about Art's return and the whole Coast situation...including some of the back and forth that happened on this site. I'll try to find the link and post it here, for anyone who may be morbidly curious. Guess I'll have to do a followup piece...

On a completely unrelated note, I'd swear I saw Dave Noorie sitting in a parked car at in a Target parking lot yesterday in Scottsdale (AZ). Checked the plate and it was an AZ plate, but damn, the resemblance was frightening.

Hell yeah, I'd like to read it!

I don't know the backstory behind why we call George "Dave," by the way. Can someone enlighten me?

I'd bet at least half of those who subscribed for Dark Matter stay on with XM/Sirius.  At work, our building is shielded so not only can't we get satellite radio (even cell coverage is spotty), but only a limited amount of FM stations (no AM) are viable.  It's awful - regular radio SUUUUUUUUUCKS.  The second I get out of the parking garage & the XM signal shows up I have to choose what I'm in the mood to listen to - I'm a talk freak, so I barely listen to any of the music channels - mainly Buffet & Sinatra :) - some good stuff out there.

You bring up another point though, Buffett. Jimmy Buffett streams his Radio Margaritaville for free on his website (the very same that s on SiriusXM.)

So if what Art is saying is true, I wonder why they wouldn't let him have the temporary luxuries?

I'm not sure that Art fully grasps how much damage he has done to his legacy tonight. Or maybe he just doesn't care amymore. Through all the other retirements and drama, Art's relationship with his audience remained. We could always, within the bounds of logic, rightfully blame someone else for Art retiring. But this is different. It's impossible to look at what happened and say "those bastards at SiriusXM really screwed Art." They didn't. Art had the exact show he said he wanted, but it wasn't good enough. He didn't have the patience to grow a new audience, and he exhibited a disturbing lack of respect for all of his longtime listeners who shelled out good money to listen to their favorite host again. He can spin it any way he wants, but it's a betrayal.

Whats incredibly sad is that no one wins-everyone loses. why didnt you just fucking do your show Art?then everyone wins. stupid stupid stupid. no one wins.

Don't lose heart. I could wallpaper a large room with all the rejection letters I've gotten and still get on a regular basis. And I read somewhere that Stephen King actually DID wallpaper a room with his rejection letters when he was just starting out.

King lives down here during winter months. See him out and about often. Hoping to snag an interview with him in one of my articles.

Freelance writers unite! Congrats! I got an assignment today for an article on doomsday preppers. Like yours, it doesn't pay a lot, but damn, it'll be a fun one to write! The one bright spot in my week. :)

Right on! :-) Congrats to you too! Maybe this is the universe's way of making sure we get our work done instead of futzing around smoking weed and listening to stories about ghosts every night.

That was in reference to Keith quitting a full time job to work on the DM website. Don't know if that's true or not though.
I would have to go back and find the specific post, but Keith did say exactly that on his personal Facebook page after Dark Matter was announced.

You said it.  This is going to take alot of cookies.  And a little of everything else I have.

Thing is, back in the am radio days, stations faded in and out all the time.  Art never quit because of that.  We have a few dropouts, a few pirates, and he quits.  (?)

Another thing, why do we, the fans, even know any of this stuff?  Why are we talking about it?  Why couldn't this be handled by the radio execs, behind office doors?  Just saying, not putting anyone down here.  It's just ... a weird situation.

I thought I was just getting old and less "hip"! (To coin a phrase from my parents.)

Granted, I got hit by  the random disconnects. But come on, its the internet! It could be from Sirius or the ISP! Only  one that loses is me, the only reason I paid to subscribe was for Art, that's it.

I know you are all angry, but can you please take a little bit of time to sign this petition, asking for the live stream? Please, it won't hurt and it will take a minute.

Ahaha. I was going to say 'I think Butterbat meant...' But I got a chuckle out of your remark of people quitting work to listen. :)

Thank you! I think he did do that - read it in his book about writing. Just a bit terrified as I'll be graduating soon and I have no job prospects at all! Journalism where I am is a very tight, closed market. But oh well, onwards and upwards I guess.

Just emailed Art asking what his non-compete clause is with Sirius.  He replied surprisingly, and told me 2 years :(

callin it an early night. good night folks enjoy snoory's show on Voting (lol).

Everyone try not  to blow a gasket. Relax, we will go back to pranking good old george tomorrow.

This forum will continue not because of art bell, but the connections made between posters.

Long live bellgab or coastgab or noorysucksgab or whatever the fuck we are calling it now.

He's an awesome man! His candidness (Is that a word?) was a main reason I quit a highly damaging drinking career.

Seems like Sirius would lose a ton of money if they did what Art wanted.
Fox news stinks.

I think it was in the "George Noory Sucks" thread some months back. Somebody posted that they had called Premiere and talked to an operator about Art Bell. The operator said something like "Art Bell is retired. Some guy named Dave Noory does the show now". And thus history was made....

no thanks. I'd love to hear Art again but there is absolutely no logical reason for SiriusXM to cave on this. Art made his bed.

UrbanFool

I have a hard time signing a petition to ask a company to not use their God-given right to make money and pay their employees. In my case, they'd still get my money regardless because I depend on the archives, but that's not everyone else's situation.

You're in good company. Graduating is a terrifying prospect these days. Just fight try to fight the urge to run back to school for whatever reason. See it through, you'll do fine :-)

Too late. I had area51drone mail them already. ;)

Apologies area51drone. I couldn't resist. :P

Checks are in the mail folks, checks are in the mail.   We did have to use Jaz's auto signature machine for his checkbook, so I apologize for them not being signed personally.   I sent the first check off to Falkie.
