He should have independently streamed from the beginning.

Or maybe this is more apropos....kinda how I feel checking Art's website every 30 seconds...

What's He Building?

Could art theoretically move back to the Philippines in a few months and just start up anyway? How can Sirius sue him there?

And now Michio Kaku

That's not quite as creepy as that weird calliope-type music that was playing rite before it switched to Kaku. But still kinda weird and entertaining.

Go back to your double wide and read your remote control manual.

Please... the comedy is hilarious.

Really creepy audio feed. I hear voices tuning the station.

Yeah this is a bit creepy... in an EVP sorta way. I'm hearing some weird music sounds too.

Kaku is talking about time.  Maybe he has invented a time travel device and we can all go back to 1996.  Or maybe Kaku will take Art's spot with Art as his permanent sidekick?

I like when the Frenchman said "and when I make pee pee"

"Think of it requiring the equivalent of 5000 Comcast connections (roughly $500,000.00 a month)."

You said it, not me cooz.

I wish art would stop by for an update. Even if it was just a "no response back yet from sirius" response.

Those were fun times.  Staying up way too late.   Dialing into some gnarly BBS to down load some silly .jpeg file

Now here I sit - refreshing this thread incessantly..........    As the song goes - I just need to
"get over it"

That's in what he's playing.  He should up the stream to 128kps though.

I think Art is more driven than ever now...he will be back. The thing is he did not want to compete with C2C...I don't think he cares anymore. No compete with Sirius is much different....C2C still was going on. If Sirius dumps Dark Matter what will he be competing against? Nothing.....20 old shows?...come on. Art will get out of this or they will give in. If they do it is a win for everyone....Art will be on Sattelite, Regular radio (if they sell the show like C2C) and the internet literally world wide!!! Serius would be foolish not to agree. More listeners to one show than they have subscribers could happen easily, and it will....Keep the faith Dark Riders .....

They could get a court order to block his streaming in the states.

Pretty simple to do.

And again I'm not convinced, having designed systems that do streaming, that Art can internally, or contractually, acquire the bandwidth or server capacity,  to do better than Sirius.

So the real issue is the "freeness". He blames the loss of subscribers on stream failure. Personally I think a lot of people are not interested in paying for his show.

Streaming fails all the time. I do a live show that draws 100 live viewers on justin... 3% of them report problems... and we take calls.

So I see this from another perspective. Thank god for youtube replays.... those rarely fail due to the huge buffer that is available.

This weird Kaku time thing, Russian numbers lady, etc. on the live stream is just one of the reasons we love Art so much.
I mean I'm so thoroughly entertained right now.  And of course thanks to all of you on this message board too, especially the vaguely loveable ones.  ;)

Technically Art is already in breach of contract with Somewhere in Time, AMIRITE?!

And it's accurate. Go price the bandwidth in a datacenter to handle over 100,000 streams at 32k.

You're an idiot.

Well said.  That was fun!  The world was so much simpler in 1996.

Wilderness

Not looking good with the removal of prior shows and DM schedule et a.

Art totally mishandled this.  In hindsight ( which is great ) he should have continued on with the show and negotiated in the background.. and if that fell through, then quit.

I wonder if Art has thought about his tactics..

If he still enjoys hosting he has probably hosed himself.

There are always plenty more shows that want to get on to Sirius...

For those that love numbers stations, check out The Conet Project.  :)

Technically.... is a word you should avoid using :)

saucerlike

Sounds like TV on the radio (not the band).
