A conversation with a liberal.

Example A

Liberal: The world would be perfect if there were never any wars.
Constitutionalist: But that is unrealistic because history has proven that wars happen.
Liberal: You're a Nazi that wants to kill people.
Constitutionalist: That sounds kind of childish.
Liberal: See how you are; you can't win the argument so you start calling me names, you redneck beer-swilling pedophile.

Example B

Liberal: There is no God and to believe so is stupid.
Constitutionalist: How do you know?
Liberal: Because scientists say the Universe started in the Big Bang.
Constitutionalist: So, believing in a God is stupid but believing that all the wonderment that is The Universe, and the fantasticality of life itself, just popped into existence from nothing one day, in the middle of nothing, is not stupid?
Liberal: Fuck you you stupid douche bag, I bet you hate homosexuals and want to kill them.
Constitutionalist: Huh?

Am I wrong?

Wrong, right; you believe what you think and it's something to browse when having a dump. I think it amusing that Rutter 'thinks' liberal is a mental disorder and is so obsessed at telling anyone who will listen he misses the irony of what qualifies as a disorder! Oh joy.

If someone suggested that the social and political philosophies I hold are wrong and were the result a cognitive malfunction, it wouldn't even register with me, unless I questioned the legitimacy of my beliefs.

I know that I do strive to be rational and logical and base my beliefs on empirical evidence - not unrealistic expectations that, based on even a casual study of human history, are extraordinarily unlikely, in my humble opinion.

For me, the facts are that I like, and am grateful for being born an American, and I like the principles upon which my Country was founded, though I am not naïve or fraudulent enough to believe or propose that it, or any country, or any political/social system, can ever approach utopian perfection. My evidence for the failure of socialism, aside from some European examples, are the Democrat controlled cities in America:

[Poverty Rank] [City] [Democrat Since]
1 Detroit, MI 1961
2 Buffalo, NY 1954
3 Cincinnati, OH 1984
4 Cleveland, OH 1989
5 Miami, FL forever
6 St. Lewis, MO 1949
7 El Paso, TX forever
8 Milwaukee, WI 1908
9 Philadelphia, PA 1952
10 Newark, NJ 1907

None of which I want to live in, nor do I suspect, would you - and I have worked in, and driven through Newark, NJ at least 5,000-times, and I can assure you, you do NOT want to live there.

So based on the evidence of what has happened to those cities since their take-over by the socialist/Democrat party, it raises questions as to why someone could want to spread that influence around to other cities/communities.

I'm not saying it is a mental disorder - I AM saying it doesn't make sense.

You know, I have raged against this fucking blowhard fairly well since he joined.  He is a delusional misogynist and rascist.  I cannot believe how many people here play footsie with this creep. His opinions are the product of a simplistic and devious mind and his "sources" are all too often the voices speaking to him in his head.
You can read and respect his opinions all you want but I would hope for the sake of decency you would take a minute to get a comprehensive sense of who and what he is.

This nation has no finer city than the Queen City of Cincinnati.  Porkopolis is the home to some of the most decent, respectful, kind Americans this New England kid has ever been privileged to meet. My eyes were opened in the 4 years I spent there to how people should  behave, not the caustic, acerbic way many of us in NE are. Don't take my word for it, head out to Cincinnati for a long weekend and come back and tell me if I'm wrong. I bet you fall in love with the city, too.

Same for the good people of Cleveland.  What city has been the butt of more jokes yet stands up time and again than Cleveland?  Ha Ha the River caught on fire.  Hee Hee three foot lake effect snow in September.  Hoo Hoo "mistake by the lake".  Yet nowhere in this country do people dig in and wear their civic pride on their sleeves than Cleveland, where they will never give up.

Except maybe Buffalo, NY.

I don't know where "St Lewis" MO is but I can tell you anyone watching the World Series right now knows two things: one St Louis is a good looking city and two man do they love their Cardinals.

Poverty?  Not of the spirit, not of the heart, not in the community.
You can take this despicable man at his word and cherish his opinion but not without casting aside any bit of decency left in your soul.

Don't forget the chili.

I could take you to neighborhoods in Newark NJ (Ironbound) that have Portuguese food that is so good your brain would melt - but when you come out of your home in the morning and your car is gone, and you need iron bars on all your windows and exterior doors, or you can't step foot out of your home after 7:00PM without a gun and the will to use it, and in spite of the MASSIVE amounts of taxes (Port Newark COntainer Terminal and Newark (Liberty) International Airport) and federal grants given to the city somehow they just can't clean it up or maintain a decent school, and the residents themselves will tell it to you, you aren't going to want to live there.

Sure, I met great people there, but I don't want my kids growing up in that kind of environment.

And everyone knows that the best chili on earth comes from Fredericksburg Texas - Lyndon Johnson's own "Pedernales River Red".  :P

President = who the state went to in the Presidential Election.
The top census is from 2013, so the data is valid for 2012.
The US News is from 2011. So they probably used 2010 data.
The President and Governor stuff is of course from 2012

Party control I would have to run a new report for. Hard to say as the South made a big switch post Reagan.

Illegal Aliens-not sure, I would have to check. They do try to count illegals but I'm not sure if they can get them to state income... New Mexico sure has some bad numbers. Not implying anything at all.

I betcha the South Carolina data I posted is probably similar for the larger proportion of the southern states in your post - but I'm not inclined to go searching and cutting and pasting - I happened to be familiar with the South Carolina data so it was easier to find.

I'm not sure that one or just a few years of data can really be indicative of a political party's tenure?

I could go on with the points but... what if this was proposed under a Republican President (ala G.W.B. with the Medicare Part B rollout)?  Well Republican Rep Joe Barton (R-TX), Phil Gingrey (R-GA), Tim Murphy (R-PA) were just a few of the Republicans urging patience while the process rolled out.

There were hearings 6 months after the rollout to examine what had gone wrong not a few weeks into the process.  The interesting thing is that these hearings may actually improve the Affordable Care Act, which MAY be ironic for a group which is determined to see the program fail.

So while some are rooting for America to fail I will be thanking those Republican reps for insisting on a hearing which will likely help improve the new Affordable Care Act!

I guess we'll just have to wait and see how great the ACA turns out to be - so far, it seems like Laurel and Hardy were in charge of implementing it...

The greater flaw with the ACA is that is was rammed down America's throat without even the appearance of trying to reach a compromise that even the most progressive of Republicans in the Congress or The Senate would have voted for - not one single Republican in either house voted for it - heck, not even the pretend Republicans McCain, Graham or Peter King voted for it!

That flaw will haunt the democrats and the ACA for a looooooong time.

Is this a part of the difference in the way a Liberal and a Constitutionalist discuss the issues?  You seemed to know how we all "think" just a few posts back.

I would like to point out that the President asked repeatedly for the Republican leaders to create some input on the law.  AND that while the House has wasted time on over 40 meaningless votes to repeal a law which President Obama has run on and won handily (twice), and which has been ruled on by the Supreme Court; they have never come up with an ALTERNATIVE.  Lead, follow or get out of the way....

Lead, follow or get out of the way....

That's the part that isn't going to work - great for Iacocca and a TV commercial, but that isn't how he worked with leadership, management, and assembly line workers to revive the company - they ALL compromised. The part we are missing is the Leadership to bring the parties together, something people said Iacocca would NOT be able to do.

And if you don't think the ACA rollout was bungled, badly, I'm not sure we can have a productive conversation. Would you rather I have said it looks like a highly qualified professional was responsible for it?

Once again, the greater flaw with the ACA is that is was rammed down America's throat without even the appearance of trying to reach a compromise that even the most progressive of Republicans in the Congress or The Senate would have voted for - not one single Republican in either house voted for it - heck, not even the pretend Republicans McCain, Graham or Peter King voted for it!

That flaw will haunt the democrats and the ACA for a looooooong time. Every time something goes wrong with it, it will be on their shoulders. That is a political blunder.

Quote

Am I wrong?

That sounds like a conversation between stoned high schoolers.

That's the part that isn't going to work - great for Iacocca and a TV commercial, but that isn't how he worked with leadership and assembly line workers to revive the company - they ALL compromised. The part we are missing is the Leadership to bring the parties together, something people said Iacocca would NOT be able to do.

So much for passing something to see what's in it.
