Are Art's guest becoming more stupid, or are we just getting less gullible?

God, I thought I was the only one who hated Open Lines... Some of them are so uncomfortable.

I almost always turn the show off sometime during open lines.  It is just too painful to listen to incoherent people who often don't seem to have a point to make.  I know I miss out on some good comments, but that's life.

Open lines have always been my favorite part of the show, especially his old Friday nights when it was nothing but open lines.  To each their own, I guess.

Art

Nothing paranormal is real by definition.   Art provides a setting to let us suspend our disbelief.

Good guests take you for a ride with interesting stories.   My favorites are John Lear's artificial moon, Mel's Hole, the homemade time machine, the flying car, the Billy Meier biography, Father Malachi's demons.   The world needs more storytellers.

I dislike Paglini, Hoagland, and Strieber because their storytelling techniques annoy me.   And sometimes, like with the EVP people, I can't suspend my disbelief.

Note that it doesn't mean that every single theory or story out there is true.

The hardcore skeptics - THOSE people are complete idiots.
You know, conspiracies tend to become news stories once they're exposed...

I think everyone should be a natural skeptic. People that are believing of anything, are easily fooled, and I don't think a population of people needs to be that way. There is nothing wrong with weighing all of the facts, science, and opinions, and making a decision, or establishing a belief.

I also don't feel that being critical of the guests takes any of the fun out of the show.

Healthy amount of skepticism is indeed necessary.
Anything in extremes is bad.

Overall I think its true for most of us.  When I was younger Art's guests seemed to have some sort of validity just because they were on the radio... I wasn't researching these idiots on google, I wasn't looking at their shitty websites, I was just listening to the show.  It was entertaining.  Thats the bottom line regardless of how much anybody believes it or rips it apart.  Also, some of these repeat guests were a lot younger and had yet to prove themselves shameless con artists.

I heard he gets a base $75,000, plus half the advertising revenue.  The latter is the kicker.  But it is well known, apparently, that Art gave up money for control, so he can do the show how he wants, with a limited number of commercials.  We are all seeing the benefit of that Monday through Thursday night.

I predict that we will gradually see more and more time on commercials.  There will be either more interruptions or the breaks will get longer.

Remember all the types of advertisers on the show before Y2k?  Dried food, equipment - was there a gold commercial?  All the while Art hammered in catastrophes with his guest selection - just to drum up enough 'scare' to sell a lot of products.  I like Art, but he's not running a charity and he know's which side of the bread has butter.

I was in Information Systems at the time, and we all knew that there would not be a disaster.  Art knew this, too.  He's not a dummy.

All the whining about proof and evidence and credibility is really bumming me out.

Listen, folks, it's a radio show.  For entertainment purposes.  Yeah, some of the things talked about are actually real.  But most if it is not.  Not even close to real.  Aliens, bigfoot, vampires, goblins, time travelers - all not real.  Ghosts, ok ghosts might be real.  And Mel's Hole, that shit was real.  But all this other stuff is fiction, ok?  It's entertainment, and highly enjoyable entertainment at that.

Complaining about a guests 'lack of evidence' when he's talking about telepathic beings from Venus is like saying the "Wizard of Oz" sucked because it was unrealistic.  Shut up, relax, and enjoy the ride.  This is what I hate about the internet.  You can't have a show that's all mysterious anymore.  Now everybody puts everything down.  Everything.  And look, some shit is worth putting down, it really is.  Noory, for example.  He should be put down.  Like a horse with a broken leg.  But, anyway, can we just go back to the times when we listened to Art and suspended disbelief for a while?  It's fun to believe in the unbelievable.  Maybe if you're looking for proof, you're listening to the wrong show.
Well I DO believe that there are things that we cannot presently explain and I certainly believe in aliens.  What I think is that some people read the material of others and just devise a story that may make them money or a name, and others are creating disinformation and others actually may be sincere contactees but may also have false information planted into their heads to make their stories sound unbelievable.
