All i know is i lived there and now i live here , and the quality of life is better ..and you make more money ..so it balances out .
My electrical bill here is way less than in texas btw
And there are services .
Texas is full of people with no teeth , living in sub par apartments or trailers with no future .

But hey , keep thinking texas is nirvana ..keeps your types out of mass :)

What services?

The only services people get in MA that they don't get in Texas is bottomless EBT cards to buy liquor on.

At least your government cares.  I saw Deval give a moving Eid speech to Muslims yesterday.  Just try to get him to have his office recognize a Christian or Jewish holiday.....

You`re starting to sound like one of those "toothless Texans" we`ve heard so much about.

I live on the Connecticut shoreline.   The Massholes come to US for advice on how to outliberal the next guy at the next dinner party.

For example......fake Indians?  That was our idea first.

Anyways, it's quite nice here and I suppose there are plenty of "services", but none that I couldn't get in toothless, cousin-fucking, Jesus-obsessed, dubya-praising, NRA-joining Texas.  So I don't know where the lady from Mass gets off thinking that she lives in some sort of workers paradise.  I'd move to Texas if the right opportunity came up.  MA......not so much.

I think the nut of what we are all missing here is that we are allowing ourselves become far too divided because we are rooting for a "team" instead of actually understanding the political al issues at hand.  Most of these issues are bullshit and do not really matter as far as it pertains to pursuit of prosperity and happiness in a safe and unobtrusive nation of Americans.  We should all know better than to dance to the spin and propaganda

Hi-di-lee-ho, neighborino!
Just to the North of you in Waterbury (just to the South of Cynnie in MA).
Suprised to hear someone from the CT shore badmouthing the state considering how much has been spent on Sandy repair and clean-up.
Don't get me wrong, Malloy sucks, but both the Feds and the State have tried to help.  Hasn't been perfect, but it seems all too often we forget services we do receive here, like a multi lane, pothole free Q-River bridge!  Again, maybe took too long and the construction delays suck, but it's gorgeous and will ease congestion on 95.
As to the "fake Indians" - I don't see anyone complaining about the millions they add to state coffers, even during down times at the casinos.  The Mashantuckets and the Mohegan tribes have done a lot to develop in harmony with SE CT.  I know some are wary of the land grab, but it's being done through real estate transfers, not with Cavalry soldiers at gunpoint, so let them have at it.
Want to live in TX?  Perhaps Austin, maybe Houston. Now's the time to go.  Great skiing in Amarillo, freshest lobster in Galveston, great fall foliage in San Antonio.  Oh, and jobs a-plenty!  Assuming you thrive on $7.25/hr.

Quick Karl

True, but when contrasting political philosophies are met with rank adolescent retorts (and yes I have seen it on both sides but I do believe an unbiased survey would show that one side is far more prone to it), the conversations become pointless.

Ok so what do the people that are opposed to democrat policies do?
Win elections.
Quote from: RealCool Daddio on October 17, 2013, 04:56:35 AM
Well, if you believe in democracy, you vote for someone else in 2016, and hope that enough of your countrymen do the same. On the other hand, if you are a crazy eyed Tea Party loon for example, you hate America, Democracy, and everything it stands for.  You feel the only real president is one you personally voted for, and you reject any mandate to govern that doesn't include your personal vote attached.  The fact that the majority of the voting public chose a party you don't like is irrelevant - because again - you hate democracy, and you hate the majority of your fellow citizens.  Ergo, you hate America.

Perhaps you should just leave.
If I may ask, what area do you live in?

Quote from: Cynnie on October 17, 2013, 09:48:23 AMI grew up in nc ..sc is a shithole ..i wouldnt even vacation there much less live there
Quote from: Cynnie on October 17, 2013, 09:52:12 AMOh you live in sc ..ohhh , now i totally understand what your problem is

I just don't understand why people with claims or aspirations of being thought generous, kind, thoughtful, intelligent or reasonable would say playground stuff like "you people are haters" and "my state rulz, ur state sux".* Because it comes off as motivated by small-mindedness, mean-spiritedness, hypocrisy and ignorance. And surely that's not so, because you're the people of love and compassion.

* I presume the "cousin-fucking, Jesus-obsessed, dubya-praising" was hyperbolic parody...or maybe just hyperbole.

Quick Karl

With candidates like McConnell and McCain? Might as well vote for the policies we oppose!

I am still awed that no one from the left that perpetually assail the greed of The Rich, has even uttered a whimper over the fact that Reid paid McConnell 2-plus BILLION dollars of The People's money, to get him to agree to Reid's demands.

Abject hypocrisy, in my humble opinion.

Nevertheless, it is hard to ignore some of the intentional... whatever you want to call it.

No, Sardondi, its because we're tired of the dismissive, paternalistic, arrogant, often snide prefacing of remarks and observations of posters made in this forum by the Right as Rain side.
We, as the Good Guys, are supposed to keep offering cheek after cheek to your withering remarks and not offer any defense in kind.
Said it before, say it again, not doing it anymore.
But we are still the good guys, thanks for pointing that out.

Looks like Walmart's hiring in Massachusetts, too.

Well, in the words of Miss Manners, Gentle Readers, I think that insulting a female poster with suggestions that she's sexually promiscuous is pretty foolish.  I think insulting someone by accusing them of having an appetite for incest is pretty silly.  Definitely one of those both sides do it things, eh?  Can we all sort of elevate the conversation a little?

Honest to god, the whole damn thing (politics) is just striking me as so much kabuki theater right now.  All this drama over the last few weeks with the shutdown, and what has been solved?  We may well re-do the whole thing again in a few months.  Someone could argue that at least the nation is now focused on this important issue, but are they?  Some pundits think the shutdown will help Dems in '14; others argue that by then Americans will have forgotten all about this.  Some argue that the showdown will harm Republicans next year.  Will it?  I'm not so sure.   As always, the question seems to be "what will the independents make of this event"?  (And then there are the perpetually undecided; with those people, you could ask the question "Was Hitler a bad man?" and they'd still vote "not sure".

Oh-oh... I musta missed that comment.  Yeah, there were winners and losers on the issue and some people are absolutely furious, livid -- but such observations have no place whatsoever.  I'm sorry that my commentary clearly missed the mark.

These threads have become super-heated of late.

of course they have.  The Republicans attempt to rewrite the rules failed and our local 'baggers need to vent. Frightening to see the end of rich white rule and they cannot cope.

I don't see a lot of support for the non-TP wing of the party now on this forum.

Truly, there are times one should consider stepping away from politics for one's own mental health and emotional well-being.  So much of politics seems to be a big shell-game anyway.  Everybody focuses on the latest stupid speech or act for a few days, the media has a field day, and then our collective attention moves to the next bit of non-sense.  Whether one is liberal or conservative, TP or Green or whatever, sometimes it's just good to let it go for a couple days.  IMO.  If all politics does is bring fury and resentment, maybe it's time to watch a movie, play with the dog, eat a good burger, chat with a friend.

In an odd way that's what this is. I would love to have a burger with anyone here. Especially Ruteger! God the hassle he'd put the poor waiter through:"Is this burger GMO or did HUSSEIN force you to use free range meat?!? Veganism is a mental disorder!"

I recall in '08 after Obama defeated McCain, people wondered if the GOP would moderate a bit or lean further right.  Now the question is being asked whether the party will remain whole and semi-cohesive or if the TP element will break off entirely.  Among those whose names are being mentioned in '16, most of them appear to be so-called "true conservatives":  Cruz, Rubio, Santorum, Palin...  Moderate-ish Christie seems to have become something of a piranha.  The old school has tried and failed (McCain, Romney).  I really wonder what is going to happen.  The party is clearly evolving, with the two factions seeing themselves as the true snake and the other as the dead skin to be cast off.

Some will say that the Dems went through something of a similar transition, with its Blue Dog contingent being culled.  I think the party should beware of complacency.  Hillary is the most-often mentioned name, but she's no spring chicken.
