CANCEL SIRIUS...

Started by Quick Karl, October 02, 2013, 11:51:48 AM

I love Art but, I'm just not crazy about paying $15 per month, when Art is the only program worth listening to. Actually, I'm just not crazy about paying for radio, at all.

And what really convinced me to cancel is that you CANNOT cancel a Sirius account online... It is 2013 mind you! You have to phone in, and be put on hold for 20-minutes or you can cross your fingers and see if they will, in fact, call you back within the 20-minute window their voice message indicates...

That, in itself, is a pure scam, designed to make it INCONVENIENT to cancel an account. To me, that is FRAUD. So now, no matter what they say or do, I am for sure cancelling the account, even if it takes me a month to do it!

Dirt bags.

I will miss Art but I'll be content to read about him here, and will listen to Knapp when he is on C2C.

Can you change your payment method so it won't renew?

The General

Karl just doesn't like capitalism.

Quick Karl

There is NO option to change a payment method...

Quick Karl

That has to be very near the top of the stupidest things I've ever read on the Internet, and that includes posts by Noory...

"Capitalism" INCLUDES the RIGHT to opt out.

You better get back to your bong.

now you can steal the show and feel justified!!

I worked for a company some years ago that had some similar practices.  Whenever somebody called to cancel they would be immediately credited a month or two so they could try the "service" out for a little longer.  If they needed somebody to walk them through a full installation or any aspect of the software we had people there specifically for that.  "Retention specialists." Basically, anything  to keep you signed up and your credit card queued up for that automatic payment that we are hoping you don't notice is coming out every month.  You don't see it for 60 days and forget you still have the service... boom we nail you again and then every month after that until you figure it out.

Ha ha.  It was a little tongue in cheek, you know.
Karl.

EVERY company is like this.
Ever try to cancel cell phone service?
Internet?
Garbage pickup?
Al Gore's Book of the Month Klub?

You have to call in, which shouldn't be that inconvenient
since everyone in America has a telephone in their pocket.

HorrorRetro

We had to cancel one of our accounts since we sold that car.  It took approximately five minutes on the phone and was a done deal.

Quick Karl

Well, I don't know how to steal the show, nor am I inclined to figure out how to, so I'll have to live with it!  8)

I do not like any company that can bill you instantaneously but somehow cant stop billing you instantaneously - in fact, it should be the complete opposite!

Thank you Harvard and Yale!

Well then I take it back! But, you had ne worried there for a minute...

OK they DID actually phone back, and the very nice Filipino girl, that actually spoke very good English, agreed to deactivate my account to be effective on the last day of the 30-day trial!

So kudos to Sirius for that, but it is STILL a scam not to be able to do so via Internet, which would actually cost them less insomuch as they would cut the cost for the phone call from the Philippines to the US, and the presumed insulting low wage they pay the girl...

I may be alone in this, but I loathe business', and the creeps that run them, that operate by the aforementioned principles.

When I was looking at You Tube lasr night I saw that people are posting the previous nights show in its entirety.
So if you don't want to pay for it or can't afford it, you could listen to the show a day late.
I've found 5 channels so far I want to listen to and a hell of a lot I'd never listen to including the mind draining and idiotic TMZ.

It says that you have to call in to cancel in bold letters when you sign up.

They also send an email 15 days before the end of the trial period to remind you about it. Did you read what you were agreeing to when you entered your credit card information onto the internet? It is 2013, mind you.

There's a screenshot for you.

And now, back to my bong.  ;)

dan7800

You can get service for $5-6 a month. We can all afford that.

I've had Sirius for over 3 years. NEVER any issues with them. Once I changed plans and was credited like 5 cents. The operator  made sure I got ever cent back.

Morgus

Reportedly when you call to cancel they should offer you some lower priced deals.
If not ask about them first, you might get the price down to $8/month or less, thats the regular price in Canada by the way - so they should offer similar price in USA, not double ($15/mo)!
Of course near the end of each term for the special lower price (6months or so) you would have to call again to either cancel or get another lower priced deal, or else they will automatically start charging the standard monthly price after your deal expires...

ItsOver

I went with the 30 day, no credit card required, free trial.  If I decide not to keep Sirius, the service just stops.  If I decide to keep Sirius and I'm concerned with hassles over cancelling it in the future, I'll just use a credit card I can cancel.

yep, thats the best way to do the free 30 day trial.
all you get is a few emails from them reminding you that you will need to call to subscribe with a credit card to continue past the free trial period since it will cancel automatically otherwise - thats the way it should be!

saab93driver

I have XM in my car, actually I got a lifetime on that one I can transfer, but they make it complicated.  Anyway, being that I have it in my car they give me the XM internet subscription for $3.50 a month and I can listen on my phone or my internet radios in the house.

It's not a scam, they're very clear on that matter. They do it to try and get you to stay on, and most of the time, they offer you much better deals to do so. It's not rocket science to cancel an account, just don't be swayed if that's what you really want. Learn what a scam is please.

Quick Karl

I disagree.

There is no reason whatsoever to make it 'inconvenient' to cancel your account, for whatever your reason. You should be able to log into your account and cancel and it be effective immediately or on a date you chose, period. Then, if they want to contact you to see if they can convince you to say, they can do that.

If I have any inconvenience dealing with any company as relates to MY credit card billing, they are done, period.

Nevertheless, they cancelled my account, sent me emails to confirm it, and I can still listen through the end of the 30-day trial, which is mighty decent.

Here's a good example:

QuotePay by check allows you to pay for your subscription right from your checking account, without a credit card. Please have a voided check available to give us your bank and account information, and remember to record the amount of your transaction:

Routing Number:
Account Number:

Hahahahahaha, if you're dumb enough to give them your bank info...

Quick Karl

I would rather listen to babies crying 24-hrs a day than anything related to you-know-who, and given my disposition on Sirius cancelling, I am pretty sure you could guess that I would NEVER give anyone my routing and/or account numbers!

I love Art, and there was a time that $15.00 a month was less than nothing to me, but those times aren't right now.

rangerdavid

I'm keeping my account.  $14.95 a month, or .50 cents a day is worth the joy and entertainment I get from Art....

just sayin..........

And its a lot better than spending " pennies a day " to listen to the clown on AM radio, isn't it ?

Quick Karl

I would rather cut my own appendage off with a dull butter knife, and deep fry it, than listen to that asshole.

It's clear Sirius uses low-rent fraudster tactics about cancelling. But what's the problem with simply notifying your credit card that any future charges are not authorized?
