Is it time to say Goodbye?

I just looked at the C2C schedule on the website for the coming week, their all lame and boring topics. This is nothing new of course, the past few weeks have been particularly bad. Is it time for me to hang it up? Its getting close i think to say goodbye.

Tinfoil Hat

I hung it up ages ago. Fortunately, I've been able to fill the void with old Art Bell shows.

You are reaching the same existential questions that scores of others here have struggled with. I haven't intentionally heard a live word of George Noory for several years, and I don't miss C2C in the least. Coast died on January 1, 2003: it just took us awhile to understand it.

Noory should have followed thru with his promise from 10 years ago that he would retire as c2cam host on Dec 21, 2012.
Instead he now has no plans to ever retire... :o

Human nature, and thus absolutely predictable. Precisely why anyone who ever for a minute believed the bastards who swore they'd abide by self-imposed term limits needs a guardian, because they simply can't look after themselves.

Yes. For the last 5 years or so, I would randomly make attempts to listen to George. I've virtually completely given up on trying.

Last night, I could not sleep and couldn't get an AB stream working, so I listened to Bloomberg radio instead. I didn't even try to listen to George.

It's beyond Noory. A new host can't change the fact it's a boring corporate cookie cutter radio show. It's typical of entertainment these days. Something organic comes along and is great, then the established untalented disconnected producers take over and ruin it by making it like everything else. Ie how many commercials can we pack in by creating constant cliffhangers and hooks to keep them from turning it off. It's amazing every show with Noory on UFOs, Bigfoot,  etc...is the same exact opinion from Noory with the question, don't you agree? They've been telling us disclosure is coming for 10 years!

The next great show will be podcast based with no corporate interference. Real stories from real callers. Not the same cookie cutter nonsense.

Uh... isn't this a little like asking if it's time to abandon the Titanic in 1922?  The good news is you can still safely get off this sunken ship.

It's pretty much why TV and, to a large extent, Hollywood in general have become one vast, soul-less, wasteland.  A perfect example of quantity over quality and of catering to the lowest denominator.  Everything has to follow a corporate formula, implemented by camel-designing committees, composed of banal wienies in suits.  Noory is just another member of the Borg.

Exactly.

Great comments.   No question Coast is now a piece of corporate fluff run by a gutless, know-nothing hack named George.

It's a shame that the Fine Art Stream is gone, eliminating a great alternative, but there are episodes of Art-hosted Coast on You Tube and I imagine many of you, like me, have private tape collections of some past shows.

The problem though, as always, is George.  He seems to have this ever-increasing desire for personal exposure and ego gratification as he branches out into TV and other media.  I'm sure, too, that he's going to probably do Coast until he drops dead or the program's canceled.  I think George ought to resurrect the old "Queen for a Day," TV program.  He'd be the perfect host for something along those lines that requires a phony bastard who feeds vampire-like off the misery of others.

The best thing to do if you've had it up to here as I have is to turn to reading or listening to some other program.  I've caught up on a whole lot of great books that I've been wanting to read in this manner.

Listening to George do anything is a waste of your time.

I'm not trying to defend the Noron, but if I had a cushy job for the last ten years that required absolutely no effort on my part, I'd keep it instead of retiring.

George always has the same guest again and again and again. Not to mention he is extremely polite. Too polite. Has he ever challenged any guest on anything they say no matter how insane they are?. And his constant murdering of the English language makes me want to create hate grammar laws. The network that owns it probably thinks that a non confrontational approach will attract more listeners but instead the numbers have plummeted. Way less listeners than when art was at the helm. I do like John B Wells a little however.

And he always starts from the beginning - same questions over and over, no matter how many times the guest has been on or how much the topic has been covered.

He claims it's for the new listeners, but it's really because he's not interested, not prepared, ignorant of the subject matter - no matter how many times he's heard it, and just plain doesn't care.  Every night he slogs through trying to make it to the next commercial, and finally to the end of the show.

I totally agree with you paper*boy

you could almost feel Noory cringing last night during open lines when a caller mentioned he enjoyed classic c2cam shows like about Mel's Hole that he listens to on youtube.
Noory had to point out that was with Art, not with him...
At the next break, Nooory probably made a note to contact the PremRat lawyers to go after youtube next to take down all Art Bell c2cam show recordings. 8)

Noory seems to squirm any time they mention that old haggered Art Bell.. you know the ONE WHO MADE THE SHOW WHAT IT WAS!?

I listen now for comic relief. And an occasional guest I actually want to hear.. except  Noory gets in the way by being himself. i listened to Ground Zero a few times. When Lewis is not political, he is quite good. I just don't want to hear politics when I am going to sleep. Why can't people in big radio understand that like Art did?

Meanandnasty

Noory's contract expires in six months.  Six monthes can be a long good-bye.

Any person with a molecule of 'pride' would have made an attempt at bettering themselves, bettering their tasks, etc.
George is the court fool .... no attempt to improve, no attempt at anything concerning C2C.
If George weren't such a bozo, you'd be embarrassed for him.

b_dubb

wait ... is this one of them fancy rhetorical threads i've been hearing about?

is it time to say goodby?  are we listening to the same C2C?

George, this thread seems to have moved into whether sNoory should retire but I think you were considering your status as a listener.  I think that I actually derive more entertainment from this site than from the show itself.  I cannot listen to the JBW shows any longer and Noory brings so little energy to his interviews that the time spent listening feels wasted.  So yeah George, I think you are on the right track.

Enough of the dreck of the Universe with Noory and C2C.  Hearing talent, such as below, still gives me hope for humanity.

Ha, I had the exact same song in my head when I read the title of this thread.  8)

As a child I was led to understand if there is a fat lady hanging around for an entire performance, and finally she sings... it's time to leave.  There was a fat lady during George's entire performance called the Mayan calendar, and she sang (or rather failed to sing) on December 21st 2012.

Thank you, ItsOver.  That was an unexpected and truly bright spot in my evening. Beautiful!  :)

You are quite welcome, Scully.  With my avatar as an homage to Roy O. and the retirement of Art from C2C, HorrorRetro, I don't know why the appropriate duet for this thread didn't occur to me earlier.  I'll blame it on Noory.  :)
