Howard Bloom

I'm shocked to find out there's not a thread on here about Howard Bloom yet. I usually like him, and the fact he's not the gloom and doom peddler about the US that clowns lile Gerald Celente and Catherine Austin Fitts and Mitch whatshisface are. I'm not two crazy about his support for the traitor tandem of Eric Snowden and Bradley Manning.

Thoughts?

i haven't listened to coast in years, but i recall enjoying his appearances.

My thought is that Manning and Snowden should share the Nobel (no, Noory, it's not 'noble') Peace prize, but that would require moving this thread into the Politics forum.

i think they're each far more worthy of the prize than some of its previous recipients.

No damn kidding. Even taking into consideration my loathing of Obama, I simply can't come up with a politics- or race-neutral basis for the award of the NPP to him. The best I can make out is that he received it for his lovely caramel color, which the Swedes are big on. Plus the fact he gets to sleep in the White House all he wants.

Imagine if this were baseball. Obama not only did not have enough at-bats to be eligible, but he was batting an embarrassing .217 when they gave him the Batting Crown. And they gave it to him at the damn All-Star break. Like they knew that if they waited for him to finish a season they wouldn't get away with it. And the guy who they traded to get him finished with an at-least respectable .298, and that was with a couple of big slumps.

But this Obama kid looked good when he was at the plate...usually striking out. But he never took one for the team; he never bunted; he never sacrificed. And his uniform was just as clean when he took it off as when he put it on. He buys dozens of drinks for the sportswriters, who then write about him lovingly. Plus he's big, big buddies with that gambler, Arnold Rothstein and the crowd he runs with. It looks terrible, but he just doesn't give a damn.

Hmmmm?

Juan

I think you're giving him too much credit by having him above the Mendoza line.

The Nobel Peace Prize lost any credibility (if it ever had any) when they awarded the prize to Yasser Arafat.

I think they should be placed side by side and executed.

in the late 1700's British Government thought the same thing about 56 US citizens.

Snowden is a patriot. He saw the government doing something illegal and spoke out. That he did so to a British newspaper speaks to how poor American journalism is

And/or speaks to the fact that there's a Democrat in the White House.

Bull. He runs first to Red China-controlled Hong Kong, then to to Putin-controlled Russia. Two governments that have no problem whatsoever with violating their citizens rights to personnel freedom. He's allied himself with an Anti-American organization (Wikileaks) that spends all it's time going after the US. When's the last time Wikileaks released secret Russian or Chinese documents?

I really don't know if Snowden is a patriot, hero, or nefarious spy. And I don't really give a fuck. I am much more disturbed by this arm of the patriot act. I am much more alarmed that anyone buys the argument that all this information gathering is for our safety.

for anyone thinking running to china or russia was for trading secrets... are you fucking kidding me? First you have no idea what information he had, you do know he had intimate knowledge of how information was gathered and those are very different scenarios. Second his options for sanctuary were and are limited.

the enemy here is private contractors collecting personal data on every US citizen without their permission. If you are ok with that then shut the fuck up about your dislike for russia and china.

I'm okay with neither. But two wrongs don't make a right, and neither does this.

If only life was so simple. But the cogs started turning long before Manning and Snowden made their decisions. And the crimes they exposed are of a greater threat than what you want to shoot them for.

That's what's getting lost in all of this.

Uncle Duke

Never had any real opinion on Bloom prior to his last appearance, just another of Noory's "experts" trotted out on occasion.  Any credibility he may have had, however,  went out the window with his ludicrous comments about the US military banning its members from Facebook or other social media.  From that, he deduced it was an effort by the government to make the military "different from us", trying to desensitize them from/to the everyday citizen.

Not sure if Bloom is lying, or just stupid.  There are numerous military organizational Facebook pages. Every branch of the Service has Facebook (and probably other social media) accounts, so do many individual units/career fields.  Kinda hard to update and exchange information on a military Facebook page if service members are banned from using the medium.  Further thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of US military personnel have personal social media accounts.

The only thing I can think of he may have been talking about is service members not being allowed to use US government computer resources during duty hours to access personal social media.  Of course they aren't, the use of all government property is for official government business.  Every government telephone and computer I used in over thirty years with the DoD had stickers/decals stating, "For Official Use Only".

Short of a company like "Google", what entity allows its employees to conduct personal
business while on the clock?  Think factory workers a hundred years ago were allowed to write letters to friends/family while on the job?  The funny part is, Bloom is the kind of guy who would have been on the air in a tirade if a GAO report were to come out saying a government agency was losing X number of millions per year due to employees using government computers during work hours for personal business.

I'm also critical here of Noory.  The man was, or at least claims to have been, a US naval officer.  Mind you not just any naval officer, but a public information officer.  PIOs are the military's interface to the public, they understand the importance of communicating with the American taxpayer.  There isn't a PIO alive who would believe such buffoonery.  Either Noory wasn't listening to Bloom's drivel, or he purposely let this crap go unchallenged.

Those conditions are not mutually exclusive. Noory doesn't have the talent to listen, nor the intellect to challenge.

Howard Bloom used to be really cool. He probably still is, in the right forum. I think when there's a show like C2C that tries to make him an expert at something, he obliges when he doesn't even necessarily have an opinion on something. Being kind, I'm saying it's probably a cross between helping them out, and also getting his name out there a little more, but nothing harmful. When I've heard him in interviews where he's just talking about his life, or telling stories, or just pretty much shooting the shit he's pretty awesome and pretty funny.
