With LG and Sony both announcing the 4D OLED tvs, I was wondering if any of you are going to shell out the $ 10 k for it.

Nah its way too early, OLED in large screen TVs isn't perfected yet, has some problems and too expensive.
Wait a few years for it to be perfected and prices to come down.
They show a few prototypes at the big Las Vegas CES show a few years before its ready for production.

So much money to spend on a TV to watch disgusting shows aimed at the lowest common denominator.  I don't get it.

Maybe if there was money to burn. I only got a flat panel a couple years ago, which replaced a 25-year-old RCA that wouldn't die.

IF the opportunity had ever arisen, I would have hopped into the sack with Rue McLanahan.

She was a hot older woman and even talked about her fondness for having had multiple men in her life.

Get tested though. She was involved with the AIDS casualty Brad Davis of Midnight Express fame(C2C connection!) though presumably before he caught "the bug".

Rue looked too much like a couple of aunts of mine for me to ever have those feelings for her. And since I'm from the North...

I meant Rue McLanahan when I ( and she  )  was a lot younger. Milf type fantasies and all of that.

My 2 favorite ones of all time were/ are Stella Stevens and Kay Parker the porn actress.

other than the news, the weather channel and ancient aliens, I mostly watch NCIS and Elementary. I have a lot of dvds and about 25 blue ray discs and I want the flat screen tv to also use as a larger monitor for my Imac because there are times when I really have trouble seeing small print and I wouldn't feel as if I was being squeezed off pages when I type a post to this or other forums or my blog.

<groan>...Kay Parker...You brought back mammaries with that one...Christ, I must have soaked whole catalogs full of bed sheets to those Taboo movies. Amazing the power of that primal incest theme as it was done in that series when you're a young man with an out of control libido. See, this is where I'd include an animated emoticon if I could get them to work.

I lump this is in with Ultra HD, 3D and other emerging technologies--if "they" ever produce content worthy of the investment, I'll make it. Today I saw a video demonstrating a new technology a Japanese company has produced in which the user dons a head mounted display and experiences tactile feedback when he reaches out his hands and touches a virtual ball of ice or fire projected in cyberspace ahead of him. All the work is done by the brain, which is fooled into believing the user is actually touching something. Now that's clever, and holds out the promise of delivering the tactile experience in a virtual environment a lot sooner and easier than brain implaints, one would think. If they combine that with Ultra HD and interactivity, we could get some porn and long distance sex happening that would make the technology a commercial success, in the same way that porn has driven the initial commercial success of the DVD, HD and even the Guttenberg printing press. (Naughty pictures, not Bibles, gave it its early success, true story.)

TMI IMO, but...

So last night I was in a restaurant and on the wall they had a display showing Family Guy and I did a double-take--not because of the show, but because of the display. I'd never seen anything so dazzling. The vivid colors, the brightness and the almost surreal smoothness of the image, truly off the charts. This, thought I, must be OLED. If so, put me down for a dozen.

i doubt it was an OLED set, they aren't in production yet other than a few samples in Korea.
probably a newer regular LCD/LED set, they are very bright if you are watching from a good angle in the center, not a side-angle.
