Terrestrial radio - Why does it stink so bad?

I hope I posted this in the right area. Am I the only one that has noticed this? What's with Terrestrial radio? What the hell happened to Terrestrial radio? It sounds like a Juke Box. Almost every station has a cool name stations no longer use call signs. I have noticed since early 2k's the Jack FM format has become somewhat of a staple in the new direction of Terrestrial radio. Every station has some catchy name and plays the same fucking 20 songs all day. Stations with a kiss format dominate the market as well. Man is just me or do most people just take what is shoved down your throat?

It stinks because it's diseased and dying a slow death.  It has automation without any kind of interactivity.

I miss the days when DJs had something to say, actually knew about the music they were playing, and had some pride that they were presenting something they cared about.

It seems like there is "the Frog" KFRG and "the Big Talker" KTLK in every part of the US too.

ACE of CLUBS

FM used to be somewhat 'outlaw' radio ..... non mainstream, alternate, and often times rude with DJ's that were interested in being a DJ.

Satellite was that way also .... briefly!

Most radio is just schluppe shit now.

Because two or three companies own all the stations.

Right.  Our old friend Cheap Channel began syndicating radio and firing all the local DJs years ago.  It's much cheaper to air the same programs on multiple stations, so they do it.  Its sort of like keeping sNoory on coast.

Can I suggest you look online for BBC radio? It's terrestrial, just transmitted over the net too..You have lots of stations to choose from (I listen to Radio 2 pretty much always) but there are stations to suit almost all tastes..(classical, teen pop, debate, comedy, breaking bands, sport etc)  Paul Jones does the Rythmn and Blues show Monday 7-8pm (GMT), Bob Harris music god has two shows on Radio two in the week. There are of course lots of other Shows and dj's on Radio two with different genres and persuasions.. 24/7...And of course there are all the other national and local BBC radio stations to listen to...Give it a go...go on...you know you want to.. :)

Exactly. Thanks to the Telecommunications Act of 1996. AM, FM... they're all the same in every market with the same crappy syndicated shows. Very little to no local content.
