i don't think you could get away with manufacturing a toy like this in 2012.  people are sooooo safety obsessed, i just don't think there's any way.  i can already hear the arguments against such a toy: "what if kids burn themselves?" or "what if kids drink the wax?"

i think being a kid in america 2012 is probably a buzzkill.
Oh yeah the kids nowadays who have their iPhones and PlayStations are soooo saddened that they can't get toys like a  master caster anymore..

I wanted one of these, so I went down to a local hobby shop that sold lots of slot racing stuff.  I was wandering around looking at all the race car sets but couldn't find  it anywhere.  Then, oddly enough, someone's dad walked up to the counter and asked if they carried those fly over chicane racing sets.  The know it all clerk said something like, "Nah...those things are worthless.  Ya see when they fly over the chicane the cars come down and miss the slot half the time, so you have to pick the racer up and set it back into the slot."  He also said that the plastic sensor that fit into the slot itself was easily broken off and that's why they didn't carry them.  After hearing that, I walked out of the store because I didn't want the guy to ask me if I needed any help.  Still, I kind of wish I'd have gotten one.  It does look pretty cool.

They're impressive in that it's hard to figure out how they work, but impressive in a different way were the suction cup wall climbers powered by a spring actuated by a pull string.
