I don't get it. Why is any silly ignore feature necessary?

What are reading words on the internet that someone doesn't like or agree with going to do to anyone? It's the INTERNET!! Don't go on the net if you are afraid that something may offend your sensibilities!

Remember sticks and stones....etc?   :-*

Its not necessary. Its a feature you can use if you want. I originally only used it for users that tended to post animated gifs which totally made my browser come to a halt, especially if several people quoted those animated gifs. Now I choose to use it for a select few that have nothing meaningful to say. As far as I know I have only made it onto 1 persons ignore list (So far).

I have a lot of channels on my television. Some of those channels I don't like. So I "ignore" them.  When I read a magazine, if there is an article that I do not wish to see I "ignore" it.  If there is an author I do not like, i "ignore" them by not opening their books. Why should I not be able to use technology to ignore things I don't want to read on this forum?

To sum up; anyone who isn't AB is fair game to be fucked over and ridiculed? Yes? Just checking.

Exactly.  While, conversely, even the slightest criticism of AB is out of bounds.

Well, first off, it's a waste of my time.

Just because somebody somewhere writes something, that doesn't mean I want to read it.  If the same poster never posts a thing worth reading, why would I want to keep reading their drivel?

I totally get why you/anyone would use it for the gifs. I have to ask, how can you be certain that there is nothing meaningful to be said if you don't read it?...even though they never have before IYO....just asking....

Sure, why not, I guess.

Guess for me I like to see what's going on, whether I find it useful, meaningful, interesting, stupid or not....or if I "like" the poster or not. Different strokes I guess.

I've been on many forums where people have freaked out because of posters who they found "offensive"...never could quite get my head around how quickly some people get way bent out of shape by words from a stranger hiding behind a fictitious name. <dunno>

To asuage any guilt about ignoring me; I'm on my own ignore list.

Just sayin

Can someone quote this so I can see what I've typed please? Ta.

Wow Art forum getting kinda scary! Look what my computer did! I started laughing until my stitches hurt!

1)  While forums are not responsible for the words contained in user posts, just as ISPs are not responsible, you are responsible for the words contained in your posts.  There is plenty of legal precedent establishing this, and I invite everyone to do a cursory Google search on the subject.

2)  Every IP address you've used to access this forum is logged.  If a judge agrees you've said something potentially libelous, the court could compel BellGab.com to provide a log of your IP address history.  This would effectively identify you, in most cases.  BellGab.com will comply with any court order.

Thanks.

Several people seemed to care quite a bit about my posting schedule.

Lots of them looked up my stats and posted them on here.

Lots also asked or told me to stop posting so much.

I was responding to their taunts when I wrote what I wrote about cutting back on posting, and you know that.

Or are you just trying to make yourself look even more ridiculous?

Yes, because I hang on your every word.   ::)

(that was sarcasm, BTW... I know how you struggle, in that regard)

I can see your post YP.  I don't need an ignore list to protect my sensitive eyes, I have taught my eyeballs to scan over stuff I don't want to read.

Yeah, but you can do that anyway, without a tech ignore function, no?

But...maybe just once they have a break through moment...and you would miss it!!!!!  :-* "Worth"...interesting.....and you define that as?...just curious.

What I have experienced is that there are a select few people on my ignore list that actually come up with something meaningful from time to time. When that happens, someone usually quotes them, so I get to see the "gem" then.

By keeping them on ignore, I only have to see their posts when they are quoted.

Hiding behind a ficticous name is what gives idiots the power to post things they would never utter in a real life conversation. The ignore feature lets me filter those things out to some degree.

MV toyed with the idea of removing the feature. Now I am glad he didn't.

I think it's a generational thing. I'm not, but many are on Fartberk and Twatter and feel compelled to impart every tiny detail of their lives (I know some us FB for family and friend catch ups etc) and hang onto 'likes' as if the world depended on them. Being 'unfriended' is seen by some as one of the worst things that can happen to them. That being the case, what they see and read on the net is important to them. In fact, it's vital to their perception of their own well being and status. Total strangers are 'important' to them; they even text someone sitting next to them because they've lost (or not learned) the skill of human interaction that involves speech and body language. And it will get worse.

You make some really good points and observations. I don't do FB either....LOL...I mean Fartberk or Twatter ;D

I kind of see it as an emotional maturity thing. I/most don't like all people , so it only logical that all people won't like me.

It's an interesting phenomenon to befriend strangers and then care if they like you, what you think or say or don't.
