Oh man, that is a tough one. I am pretty sure we got him hooked good through the bottom lip and probably the jaw too. I bet he starts rooting around the GabCast thread waiting to pounce on the opportunity to cohost and become famous like SV. Of course, he might not have the skills, or his "world's best site blocker" may prevent him from installing Skype correctly and then the infamous Inglorius Bitch will not feel like the Lone Ranger.

I dare say the boy is an addict. Eventually he will reveal the true depth of his OCD, but until then we can only bask in the knowledge of we did it again!!!

Normally it takes 3 weeks to develop a habit. This one was week.

Has anyone read his book MindWar?  Apparently it goes into greater detail about the various methods of mind manipulation researched and employed by the military, and reviewers seem to think that the knowledge in his book could be dangerous as hell in the wrong hands.  The focus seems to be on manipulating the psychological and physical environment to produce the large-scale changes that the practitioners want to see.

It seems incontrovertible at this point that Americans have grown increasingly violent, stupid, and infantile, in a general.  I’ve been wondering if it’s caused by the pervasive toxins/hormones/etc in our air, water, and food, or if it’s more of a cultural thing tied to the long-term erosion of educational funding and quality, or if it’s the natural consequence of increasing poverty rates and economic inequality, or if it’s nothing more than a technological effort to keep the population divided, suggestible and hostile, so we’re always eager to fund costly military actions that line the pockets of our massive defense corporations.  Probably some combination of the above.

For me this is part of an effort to understand the microcosm here, where Art’s victimization by an armed criminal is being exacerbated 24/7 by people who seem to have no interest in the situation other than lowering the caliber of discussion, and also to understand the national scale where Americans have become the laughing stalk of the developed world for our ignorance, aggression, and superficiality.  In less than 50 years, we’ve slumped from a beacon of global inspiration to a cautionary tale â€" how did that happen?
