I write to you with a heavy heart tonight.  It has been a pleasure and a great honor to work with Art Bell.  I have been with him every step of the way through each incident:  his studio internet being tampered with on Sept 23rd, shots fired at his studio on Oct 21st while he was on the air, the threatening phone call he received at his private home number on Nov 18th, the intruder on his property on Nov 23rd, and this last incident of a shot being fired at him when he was on his way to his studio on Dec 9th.

The incidents are becoming more brazen, and more often.  I'd give anything to know who it is.  Anything.  I want this person/ persons caught and stopped.  However, wishing it does not make it so.  The proper Police reports have been made, Art's security increased, yet it continued.

For anyone who thinks this is a stunt or an excuse to quit, I have made reports to Nye County Deputies myself, and have photos of Art's injuries from when he dove to the ground when he heard the shot on Dec 9th.  Unfortunately, it is all too real.  I am as angry, and as sad as all of you that Art has been pushed off the air, but the right thing to do is to put his family first.  That he was bullied off the air like this makes me so mad I could chew up nails and spit out carpet tacks.

I will be hosting Midnight In The Desert starting on Monday night.  It pains me a great deal to have my dream handed to me like this; Art should be the one on that mic.  It is his rightful place.  Anytime he wants to return, the seat is his.  For now, I will keep that fire lit for him.
Thanks Heather, I'll be listening :)

Hells Mole

Nothing compares to that night in 98 when he announced at the end of a show that he was leaving for good.  Spending five hours a night on the cutting edge of mass conscious experience came to a screeching halt.

I saw this coming after the second report of someone on the property.  I just had a feeling something was going south.

I don't look forward to nights without Art because when he's getting on the air with some regularity it makes the world feel more right somehow.

I believe Art to be responsible in a very large way for creating the legion of open forum anything goes talk radio programs in the world today, all an attempt at thought or consciousness-expanding conversation with a spoonful of entertainment.

Art's got the voice and the personality that just has no equal.  It was worth the $5 a month for sure, I have been loving it.
I don't know what makes me more sad - that he's retired forever again or that I'm completely jaded to this disappointment.

Alot of emotions swirling around here right now.  The whole things sucks.  Anyone who doesn't believe something real is going on, is just way off-base as far as I'm concerned.  Hope the situation resolves soon and peacefully.

I give you big credit for stepping up last night.  Many of us here believe in you and are wishing you the best.

Art deserves to do his show in peace.
YES!!
Thanks for being here and on the air, that helps us longtime Art Bell fans share our grief and confusion.
I only wish Art could have started with a hiatus period first before making a final decision longterm regarding the show.

I hope Art hires a private investigator and puts out a reward. I bet the fucker is bragging all over he got art of the air. A large sum of money for a reward would probably get someone to talk.

Art has left his show in good hands, Redacted...you will do well. Just relax and take time to hit your own pace with it....you have a lot to offer.

So sad it is under these circumstances though. Art being bullied off the air is so unfair and just so vicious. He did the right thing, though. Because, at the end of the day, what it really does is take the power away from the bully and keeps his family safe. He is the one displaying courage here...not that coward in the shadows.

Please tell Art to have a relaxing, safe and restful Christmas. He deserves it. We will still be here if he can ever come back to the air. At least I know I will be.

I think it just affirms the power of "crazy dude" and I see no reason to believe quitting the show will get rid of the problem.

Enough with the narrative selling and newscaster/PR speak, it's not your job. Do YOUR show, make it good. Stop playing clean up. I know you care but it's coming across as stilted PR.

Art told the police he's not even sure it was a shot or a firecracker? More and more brazen would mean the police wouldn't close the case like they did?

Again, ART quit, it's not your job to play clean up. Tease some guests coming up, stop talking about how traumatized Asia is, and how awful it is that someone you knew damn well would quit, quit.

I tend to stay on the side of empowering the good people, not the bad. It takes guts to go on the air night after night after night. Hiding in the shadows in the desert? Not so much.

Agree, to a degree.  If the point of the psycho nut was to scare Art off the air, he has succeeded and will (probably) go away.  If he doesn't, he's even more of a psycho nut than I surmised.  Art, beef up that security anyway, just in case.

And as a supporter who won't be canceling the subscription in hopes that you come into your own, I'm offering that the PR speak is not necessary, and at times downright bizarre. When you have TIMEHICK on, instead of having a candid discussion with Art, and giving a proper send off, it's weird. When you repeatedly tell your callers 'it was so interesting" and ask 'wasn't it great', it's weird.

Also, your life isn't on display for dissection, your product is. Stop being defensive, I support you.

You know, a very wise man once told me...'sometimes you just have to let the demons win'. Because, in actuality, they don't really ever win....they just feel powerful for a few moments. And life is far more complex and rewarding than a mere few moments of malignant arrogance.

Enjoy your family, Art. They are a blessing.

We have never talked, Heather but I want you to know how happy I am to see that you will hold the fort down and that the show will continue.  I'm pretty sure Art will show up on occasion and that's good enough for me.  Eventually he will be back on full time.  You did a good job last Friday and I think you will only get better with time.  A lot of us will be pulling for you.  Have a relaxing Sunday and an exciting Monday.  Wishing you the best.

. . . I will be hosting Midnight In The Desert starting on Monday night . . .

So, we hope you will be able to clean-the-slate of previously scheduled guests right from show #1, and find only those who truly interest, excite, and stimulate _you_, and then the rest will follow. From there, what will be will be.
And Good luck with it.

Insert: And I think MV was to give some prior-thought quickly as to how and where to list you "Heather Wade" within the roster and organizational heirarchy of Bellgab's thread-naming and fileing stucture. i.e. In order to establish your own Independant  "Top Level" Domain visibility and identity.

Other then adopting a supine position regarding all things AB, talking about how or what you're feeling, doing or believing, selling woo woo astrology; what other facets of your personality do you think need to be centre stage?

He's being a jerk, but you should make the show yours.

I'm keeping my subscription good luck!

I'd suggest some traditional art guest that can carry an interview untold you can get your feet wet. J

I have always liked you on the Gabcast, and the interview with Art was very good.
You will get the hate and you know it, but personally i like the way you interview and you know the
format of the show well.
I wish you well, i will be listening for sure.

Midnight in the Desert

I will run Midnight in the Desert w/Heather Wade on the Dark Matter Digital Network for the next 30 days minimum. She will start in Art’s same time slot for Monday and Tuesday…

However, seeing as I’m obligated to continue feeding the terrestrial affiliate stations for the next 30 days, I’ll need to feed either Heather’s live show or replays of Art Bell’s archives, (which ever they determine the best for them yet to be decided). If I need to feed the Art Bell replays to them at 9-12, Art’s time slot,  I will have Heather do MITD from 6-9 pm PT LIVE to insure she gets to do shows for you also. If the radio stations are fine with Heather filling in for Art, we’ll keep her at 9-12 PT.

Her shows will be added to the same Time Travelers archive as Art’s shows, so your current subscription will have Art’s old shows and these new ones. It’s up to you to continue to support the show with Heather by keeping your existing subscription or signing up again for the Time Travelers subscription, now at $4.99. After 30 days, we all will evaluate the financial situation of whether we can continue. I hope the subscriber base will maintain the show. We will do our part in reducing the costs.

Other Side of Midnight

As for Richard C Hoagland’s OSOM program,  again, it’s all about finances. RCH and I need to re-evaluate our financial model and hope to come to some resolution to continue running his show on DMDN. Stay tuned for updates on this matter. He could be back on Monday night! You can still show your support by Joining Club 19.5.

Dark Matter Digital Network

It was always my intention to bring good paranormal programs to the network and as Art Bell would draw people to the station,  these shows would gain audience and attract advertisers. While Art Bell was bringing the audience, some shows received some increase in numbers and I continued to run those shows hoping for better performance.

As hard as I tried, with over two years in building the network, none of the other programs I carried were able to earn any advertising dollars to support the cost of playing the shows, let alone justify my time in producing the shows live. I had to be present in the studio during all live shows in order to connect and bring them on, monitor the sound, play the breaks, record the show and edit the replay audio files. This time took away from my day and had no financial benefit. But I did it because Art’s show was subsidizing the cost. With the leaving of Art Bell, it doesn’t seem financially viable to continue spending hours a day doing this. So I regret to not being able to produce LIVE versions of these programs after this week.

I will however for the time being, continue to play on the station stream any and all pre-recorded shows that I currently have and any of the current LIVE shows who wish to produce their own pre-recorded audio files to me for playback, on DMDN each week. But I need to have those 4 hours a day back.

The station will also revert back to a cheaper streaming solution and may be dark for some periods of time to save costs.

Finally

It is sad that incidents have taken our Art Bell away from us again…. The challenge of bringing Art back was intense and satisfying. But the Dark Matter Digital Network was created and maintained for his return. Now that he is gone… the situation will be fluid and could quickly change.  But I’m willing to get this a shot, if you are. I will update this post as I have more information.

Seriously, guys, just give me something, anything, marginally better than Dave and take my money.

I'll even resubscribe to Hoagie if it'll help keep you in operation, though he's still a jerk.

Fuckin' A.

No PD in their right mind will run a show with an unknown when Art Bell replays are on the table. Keith is going to bail once the obligations are fulfilled and no one can blame him.

Live content always trumps replays, she will get a fair amount of stations giving her a shot.
