Assuming it is all true, yeah. It is easy to say, and maybe does make good government/police policy, but 'not giving in to kidnappers or terrorists' is often not a good one once it gets personal; or at least a damn hard one to keep at that point.

Wasn't any more or less silly than other suggestions.  Honestly, while I'm selfish and want to hear more Art Bell, I don't know if I could handle him coming back and then quitting again.. even if for very good reasons.  I think I'm concerned about him continually posting on FB about it. I get that he feels guilty, he's upset he has to quit doing what he loves, and he's tired of the people spewing nonsense about him faking all of this to get attention. But he's pretty much made it damn near zero possibility of anyone taking him back.    Fans yes, but the people who have worked for him for years? The networks? I dunno..

There is also something to be said, though, on the idea that some people, who are for lack of a better word idolised or some kind of figurehead, to have somewhat of a responsibility to weather the storm and rise to any such challenge. That's more the arena of younger people with more excitement and brash conviction in their actions, though, I think.

Well to put it more simply; people who put themselves into that kind of position could anticipate and overcome most threats or dangers, even when it's very disagreeable and can damage their personal life, to more effectively enforce their role and their statements.
