I had the same thought.  Maybe a cop could leave the microphone open on his motorcycle radio.  I hear tell all kinds of cool audio forensic data can be gleamed from such broadcasts if recorded and analyzed.

I don't give a fuck what you think. I've lived my life in real fear of being killed by a "nutter." Waiting for the other shoe to drop for over a decade.

I still live with the scars, mentally and physically from being shot twice by a 9MM; and two surgeries that saved my life. Not someone making threats, popping off rounds 100' from my guest house, or hiding around my back door. So yeah I know a little something about that first hand. I also know what I'd do to protect my family if I had the money Art does. We would be in our condo in Manila at minimum, for the short term at least.

Art breaks my heart over and over and over.

Each time we are there for him, support him, wait for him & every damn time he ups & quits as his first & only solution to problems. No one wants harm to come to him or his family but quitting won't stop a nutcase stalker. Art can quit but when he walks away he is still in his home with an armed nutcase outside waiting to get him.

Pick an effective solution Art because quitting will just empower the nutcase who now can feel justified in his mission. Art still needs security, maybe a bodyguard or a detective to uncover & catch the freak.

I just can't believe he is quitting again.

I need to check Hughes' show out. I always miss it. Stuff They Don't Want You to Know podcast is fun too.

Howard offers all of his old shows on his website for listening and downloading for free, and his programs are all commercial free.  Love that guy â€" I’m sending him a donation on Monday for being such a generous and righteous dude.  His “bullshit meter” isn’t nearly as fine-tuned as Art’s, but the guy has that rare and genuine love of broadcasting.

Thanks for the tip on Stuff They Don't Want You to Know â€" I haven’t tried that one yet.  I’ve been making the rounds to find good paranormal stuff lately, but mostly it’s really disappointing compared with the vast archive of Art’s shows that I’ve been listening to over and over again.

And there is the "ultimate archive" and the streaming sites, Dark City (when shows happen), and some good podcasts. It does suck to see Norry win and Art bow out so quickly. But I understand family first and despite what anyone says when it gets personal sometimes you do give in to terrorism or the kidnappers. Assuming all is true I hope the harassment stops and perp(s) caught. And maybe Art decides at least to do some podcasts occasionally.

That would be cool - the live show angle has a zesty appeal but I can't fathom being enslaved to the clock like that.  I'm kind of amazed that Art went through that for all those years.  Podcasts are easy - fit 'em in anytime you want.

I have that same gnawing feeling too:  that somehow this is Noory and those psycho freaks at ClearChannel "winning."  Maybe it's corporate paranoia, but a broadcasting network willing to hire fake callers to bolster their show's sense of popularity...anyone willing to stoop that low is capable of Anything.

Not really sure why a large angry dog in the yard wouldn't have sufficed, but even a Rottweiler doesn't stand much chance against a rifle.  Man I wish I could get my hands on the creep stalking Art.

Thanks for the tip on Dark City.  I tried The Infinite Monkey Cage and Mysterious Universe that some friends recommended, but I found them weirdly superficial.  I need to find a deep, long-format show with weird topics that's not ruined by a gazillion commercial breaks.  Art seems to be the only one who understands that's the way to go.

I hope people are good to Heather tonight.  She's a class act and tonight must feel like walking into a buzz saw.  I don't know if anyone else noticed, but her familiarity with Art's enormous body of work was stunning.

If he comes back, he should broadcast like he wants to.  Once a week, once a month, 4 days a week, whatever.  Who cares if any stations pick him up?  Art broadcasts for the love of broadcasting, and people listen because they like his show.  Does not matter if it is aired on any radio station.  Netcasting is just fine.
