Jesus christ,  what a bunch of pointless bullshit. This is the Art Bell thread. Take your political retardation to the politics section.

Art,
I have written some shows, and called into others, and spread the gospel of your triumphant return whenever I get the chance.  I work on gas dispensers, and I've told at least 50 truckers about ya.  Over half have heard ya, and seemed genuinely excited about the prospect of hearing you again!

The only problem, as I see, is bandwith.  I LOVE the quality of the AAC stream as it is, but please consider having a lower bitrate stream available for truckers and travelers.  I did the math on your show, and at 48Kbps it will use 1.2GB/mo to catch every show.  That's not a whole lot, but on a 4GB/mo plan, that's a serious chunk of it. The simple solution is to obtain more data, but I don't forsee hundreds of thousands of users doing that.  I could be wrong (it's happened before), but I suspect I'm not.

I have listened to as low a stream at 17Kb/sec and can still hear the talk clearly.  A 24Kb/sec stream in AAC would still sound as good as a 64-96K stream in traditional MP3 compression.

It's at least something to discuss with Rowland.

This is exactly why I remain willingly shackled to AT&T even though I hate the company.  As long as they continue to let me extend my super cheap iPhone unlimited data plan I will keep begrudgingly sending them money.

Open bomb bay doors, standby. Release now now now!

John Taffer for President.

Return to base.

Ha! I thought that's what it would be tonight after Art mentioned there would be a game on Friday.

Just wanted to let Art know that JC's "sister-in-law," Petunia, has been updating JC's Facebook page.  (Two recent posts thre). The thread going on under her second to latest post is extremely amusing.  Whoever Petunia is, she has a great sense of humor.  I hope she'll call into the show tonight.

This, as far as I know is JC's Facebook page:

I agree.  Please do keep political opinions in the "politics" thread.  It just makes sense.

Good point.  I've been wondering if anyone would bring up the matter of bandwidth again, besides me.  I agree, 48 kb is a high price to pay.  Every other stream that I listen to, besides mitd, is at 32 kb or less.  I listen to the BBC at 24 kb on PBS.  IOW, I can listen to 6 hours of BBC for the same cost of listening to 3 hours of mitd.  That's huge, and it adds up.  For what it is worth, when Art has a guest that doesn't interest me, I tune out -- to save bandwidth for something better.  Before the 48 kb rate was settled, I and others had argued for a smaller bit rate, but the drone from the high speed Internet users, some of whom were even fine with 128 kb, for chissakes, dwarfed our input.  So much for high quality sound that hasn't brought in new listeners.

I use the tunein app on an iPhone. Inside the app you can select the audio stream quality settings.  I set it to the lowest and the data plan usage isn't bad.

I think you should check your math though... A full month of shows (20-21) is going to eat up more than 1.2gb.  Maybe I use up more since I am usually surfing this forum at the same time.

I think Trump does not want to appear on long discussion shows.  Most politicians don't.  They want to say what they have to say, ideally unquestioned, and then retreat.  THey do not want to go through how they plan to balance the budget (if anyone will even list that as an actual goal these days), or plan to finance a free or less costly education plan.

One candidate brags about how he balanced the budget in his state, but when you research him, he was a major pusher of means testing for social security.  Not many people want that.

Before he announced and it was only rumors and before the polls and popularity he might have come on, simply to try to gin up support. (Like Keyes, the libertarians, etc did on Art's show back in the day.) Chances now are much slimmer since he is getting all the media attention he wants.

I think terrorists use several alias's and if a person's name is the same maybe it gets flagged - as it should be, though it should not be difficult to clear that up once a person is flagged.

Just like I think it is fine if there are undercover operatives in religious houses, if they are a possible source of terrorists.  They are welcome to come to my husband's Presbyterian church any time.

I'd rather not have MITD become political talk.  There's Rush and Savage for that.

Sure.  He's certainly pulling all the media attention away from other candidates.  Hillary is now trying to make Trump-like statements so someone will pay attention to her.

Exactly... The point being that they didn't get on the list because they had a scary sounding name, someone else with the same name got on the list because they were doing something scary, and they just happened to have the same name.

I have a cousin that has the same first and last name as mine.  At one time he was into things I wasn't, so I started using my middle initial in all my official correspondence to cut out 99.9% of the confusion.  The other 19.5% was the result of torsion-related hyper dimensional physicalities that were totally outside of my control.

Half the stuff posted in this thread has nothing to do with Art Bell, yet where is your outrage for that?  But when one or two political comments are made, goes to show us who you really are.  Just because someone suggested Donald Trump, as a way to improve the mitd audience numbers, doesn't make a comment political.  Mitd could use a Trump to improve ratings, but I doubt Trump would want to show up if he knew retards dominated the audience.

Yeah, I don't mind it with the more fringe candidates, people, or ideas. It can bring in good callers and bring out the best (or worst, in terms of getting on his nerves) of Art. Like when he had Dr.William Pierce on and he was railing against interracial marriage. Ha. Definitely don't want it to become a political show like Rush or Savage but the 3rd parties, the fringe candidates, or despised/infamous people, etc I don't mind politics on the show....sometimes. I also enjoyed when he had "legit," celebrities became interesting guests. But not 'pop stars' or promoting new films celebrities but guys like Willie, Carlin, Waylon, Lightfoot, etc.

we (Americans) know we aren't perfect . . .

No, we don't know. "Not knowing" involves that pesky fact that "you can't know what you don't know". Americans are by and large so pitifully under-educated they could not possibly have a clue about "what they don't know" and thus could not even have clue about what "perfection" or excellence is, let alone begin making plans to get there. And looking at the clock, I'm thinkin we, and our spawn in particular, and any other creature in our path, are, on account of these facts, in very big trouble!

The "Johari Window" was created by Americans and Rumsfeld, American, pondered various "knowns" infamously and somewhat hilariously once others got a hold of it.
