I think the measure of a good talk show host is which hosts would you go back and listen to decade old archived shows?

Or join a stupid interweb forum about, after the show has extincted.
Or has it?

I'm always curious how lists, stats, polls, etc, are developed.

I've listened to exactly 3 of these shows (I'd frankly rather listen to music than talk radio when I'm in the car), but there is no way there are 11 hosts out there with more talent than Art Bell

That's like saying someone sucks more than George.

Yeah, if you go down far enough on these same lists, there are hosts ranked after George Noory.  That can't be right.

My NC is over on July 16th. I had thought July 20th would be a good start date so perhaps I should push that a bit and start to do Interviews, or maybe not. I for some reason got it iny head I should start Interviews in early July not even considering that the NC would not be over by then. Lol
I was thinking what I would like to do as opposed to what I can do.

I don't think I want Radio Stations to carry the show, I have climbed that Mountain and see no reason to try it again. I have much more freedom this way, I think this is the future, not Radio, much as I love it, it's day is nearly done. When was the last time any of you saw a kid walking and listening to a AM Radio? Yes some still listen in cars but even that is changing.

Art,

To summarize:

So many of us were with you through the nights when your talking about some of the weirdest crap possible seemed like the only thing to be doing. We stuck it out through the faltering post 2000 hosting you did and the attempted change to screened open lines. Through the smoking cessation, the loss, the reawakening of love and family. Then the Sirius debacle. What a buildup to dissapointment. And here we all are once more. You're posting and doing your best to make the nightime weird again. Thanks man- we love you!

Ha! Quirks and Quarks from the CBC helped defeat the troll... I still like that show (another well done interview show...)

Sounds great, Art! I use Tune In to listen to the DMRN and it is always reliable and sounds great. My Ipod is now my transistor radio. I just saw a Chevy (?) commercial on TV and they are going to offer Wi-Fi in their vehicles. I don't know how that will work but I'm sure with the evolving technology it will be possible.

Question: The downloadable show archive: I'm assuming the music won't be included on those shows. Maybe Keith can make the previous weeks shows available to steam on demand with music included? I would pay extra for that. The shows could rotate out with new shows that are added. Maybe keep some 'new classic' shows available to stream for new subscribers.

I'll use the downloadable show option if needed but I'll try to record the shows with music included. The music IS important to the show.

This is all so very exciting! Congratulations on this alternative idea!

By the way, Keith has done a great job with the Dark Matter Radio Network. The network as a whole sounds so much better with the current line up of programs. Jimmy Church leaving the network was the best thing that could have happened.

It's great that you will own your shows. Let's face it. This will probably be the last chapter in your broadcasting history. Your final broadcasting home. You can now control everything! Although you had so many classic shows on Coast I think the best is yet to come!

I'm in for $5.00 per month and will gladly donate.   July can't come soon enough   ;D  ;D

Well it is not possible to put music in Podcast's at all, it is so expensive that NOBODY does it. It might be possible to stream shows on demand with music but I am not sure about that. Even Rush removes the music from his Podcast.

I love music during live shows but when I listen to podcast's I prefer the music and commercials to be out so I can consume the show faster through my work days. It's also from a business standpoint an unneeded cost.

Looking over that list brings back memories of when talk radio wasn't synonymous with lunatic fringe rantings.  I miss Bruce Williams.

Art, Art, ART.... Here's the thing, man. We love you. We want to help get you back on the air ASAP.

Why don't you let us help fund your studio on KickStarter. It would be the best way to ramp up promotion for the new show. Plus, we get to help you with some of the financial burden. You'll be freed up to invest that 20K in other aspects of the show. Less risk for you, less Stress for you, faster path to a great show...

KickStarter for ARt!  Just say yes and someone on here will have it up and running in a jiffy. Say Yes and you'll be blown away by all the support you have. Kickstarter is a great way to go.

Mr. Bell, you're instincts are surely the best bet, push it back, do some press,  it'll be a nice "tease" for us.

I'll also pay Tune In the $9.99 one time, wish we could let them know that many new sign-ups will be the responsibility of AB, A friggin B!

Pale Horse

Also, Fuck the FCC and their (our) airwaves. At least On the InterWeb, we can occasionally drop an F-Bomb where apopriate. Say whatever grown people say (all people really; ever heard kids talk these days, serious potty-mouths) without being fined 250K per swear word. It's absurd. It's an insane denial of reality.

Thank you but not yet. We might put in a donate button when we are close to starting but this time I only want our necks on the line (Keith and myself). After we have spend we will consider a donate button.

MV/Liberace!

So Art, is it officially a no-go with the big player? If so, can you say who it is and what the problems were?

Art - Happy 9th Anniversary to you and your lovely wife. (saw your post on facebook) Congratulations!!

Great news, Art! Very reasonable fee for the opportunity to listen to you once again. I can't wait until you're free to return.

Soon....this will be behind you. :)

I actually like it this way. When I listen offline and I can pause, go back or forward however I like I don't see any use for it. Live show is a completely different experience.

Another idea for the donate button - a lot of sites have a monthly target they need to meet to cover server costs etc and have a progress bar of sorts to show the progress of donations in relation to what is required for that month.  Could be a good idea since you'll have monthly recurring costs.  Anyway, just a thought.

I can't afford a car so I take the bus everywhere, and usually that means 2 hours of standing, riding, waiting...  I listen to Leo Laporte's podcasts because I'm a computer geek who builds does his own homebrew computers and is into fixing systems as a hobby (I help people including strangers for no charge).  It will be fantastic to be able to listen to Art also during my long travels, and when I *try* to sleep at night.

I got to hand it to you, Dr. Bell (honorary doctorate in mad radio skills), you perservere, makes me wanna keep fighting my own fights in life.  Maybe Asia and Mom can do some guest announcing, that would be precious.  BTW, Art, how much Tagalog can you speak? Magandan Gabii?
