The only thing we want to protect like crazy is the Podcast. But the live show...let everybody have it free.

Art

Would the knowledgeable ones please enlighten me (us); is its even possible to protect the podcasts from the pirates? I want Art to be successful and the number of subscribers are paramount to keeping it going.

I'll listen to many 'free' shows live, but realistically I'll miss parts of shows and whole shows too, so paying $5/mo for podcasts is a no brainer.
BUT and its a big FAT BUTT, if the  pirated podcasts were readily available, I could see myself listening to them and over time dropping the subscription. So being completely honest, that even a loyal fan like me, would drop the subscription for readily available pirated podcasts ....can Art's live broadcasts and podcasts be protected from the pirates?

you can do all the interviews and interviewing whenever you want, once your non-compete is up  Perhaps your mind is experiencing what it will be like to really be free to do what you want again.   sirius/premrat will no longer be able to manipulate your future.

I think we are forgetting about the vast and powerful licensing empire Art Bell will have to generate income as well.

Yeah Old Man give it up.... the sprit is willing but the flesh is weak :)

What I like about being old; is at work, the youngsters assume they have to do everything for me.

Some were afraid a group of evil koalas with Dave Noorie at the helm had gotten to you, dude.

Art, just in case you're doing a head count of loyal fans, count me in too!  $5/mo. is yours for the asking, even though I will mainly be listening live.

You da man!  ;D

Ditto (although, I think the price should be $9.95)

Do we know if will MITD be a broadcast/podcast from Station KNYE, will it have NO radio affiliation?
I have & use Tune In app, not worried about finding the show, just wondering if it will be affiliated with radio, or strictly podcast.

"May 2014, Tune In announces 50 million active monthly listeners".

Tune in app probably has more listners than sirius radio. Easy to use and very stable. I use it all the time.

I still have "Dancing Queen" playing in my head, ever since AB announced last evening at about 5pm.

$5 is a great price. I just subbed to another paid podcast to try testing out the paid RSS feed feature with Downcast. It worked flawlessly, so now I'm ready to throw my money at this project. Come on July!

Ok, so here is something to consider, ALMOST nobody is doing a live show on the Internet, it is new so I expect it to start slow. Don't get me wrong the potential is unlimited but the word has to get out, that is where I will depend on all of you. We need a social media blitz starting in early July kind of like the one you did for XM. Getting the word out is the name of the game.

We need to post everywhere. I will start to grant select Interviews in early July. Everybody anyplace in the world can get Tune In free, so all we need to tell them is get the free Tune In app and search for my name or Midnight in the Desert.

This will be a fun experiment, the World has changed and we are going to try and ride that wave. Smart Phones, tablets, Computers and Internet Radio's. Also, I do not see any reason why it can not be on other services if they want it. Heck they are even starting to put Internet in cars.

The only thing we want to protect like crazy is the Podcast. But the live show...let everybody have it free.

It will be in 64K Stereo so it should sound first class. Very few if any commercials and a suprise or two, fun fun fun.

Art

Art, Iis the live stream going to be 64kbps AAC?  Using AAC at that bitrate would make the music sound very good.  Looking forward to listening, subscribing and donating to the cause.

Great point...  I've been using Tune In for several years to listen to music.  The sound quality is exceptional in this format!

Art, I'm in for $5 a month and will also gladly hit the donate button as you ramp the business in the first 3-6 months.  I think you'll get to critical mass faster than you think.  When you first launch the Tune In application, you get a 20-30 second "commercial" of upcoming programming they have running.  I also get "push" messages to my smart phone and iPad reminding me of the start time of key sporting events that will soon be airing.  Be nice for them to do some of those pushes of your show  :)

5 is fine and I donate as well.

Great idea! anyone know anything about the costs for the Tune-IN radio "launch" commercials?

Months ago many of us indicated that we'd be happy to pay $5 per month for "premium" content/a podcast/etc.

Maybe that's a good Poll, MV ?  Even unscientific it would be interesting to see how many would sign up for this.   :D

TuneIn Radio Pro, available for a one-time payment of $9.99, eliminates those launch ads.

Just an idea... what about archives for all the programs on DMR for a couple dollars more??

8)

Some podcast use a pay what you want method. A minimum could be set at $5 but people should be able to pay more. That or I will just get more than one subscription to help support the show, expecially the first 6 or so months

"gamble" Get real Art... you ARE Art Bell! it's clear to me that if you commit, sky's the limit.

Hire the right staffers to get the back room (office/accounting/banking etc.) humming along to take the pressure off the you and Keith, so you guys can spend your time making the best broadcast possible.

There are only a few greats in the world that have your potential, commit and gamble a little capital, can't lose. Again if need any help, just ask.
