Cool, new opening theme.  Can you give us any vague hints on it, Art?  Is it high energy?  Rock?  Pop?  70's?  80's?  90's?  Moody?  Upbeat?  American group?  British group?  soloist?
hint: it's not Italian Opera (unfortunately)

That's one of my favorite movies!  But I don't think Art told us that--unless I missed something.  So that's a joke, I guess.

Having made contact has to give you all a bit of relief all around.  Good to hear.

Good try, never anywhere.

It's a little known fact Art re-enacted the whole incident on live radio in this long lost episode of Coast to Coast... :P

that's the legendary phil hendrie.  he was one of the greatest things ever to happen to talk radio.

Agreed - both Art & Phil were my favorites growing up because they were so unique from all the ad nauseam left vs. right talk all over the radio dial.  Phil's podcasts are still good, but his show lost something when he stopped taking listener calls and cranked up the political talk.

On that note, Art if you need a show sponsor, how about "Midnight in the Desert, brought to you by Peenman Enterprises." ;D

Art_s Farts

In the late nineties my local radio station had Phil Hendrie on from 9:00 PM to 12:00 AM and Art from 12:00 AM - 4:00 AM. I worked the night shift and those two got me through countless nights. The best 7 hours of radio I have ever heard.

So true. I still listen to his new podcasts once in a while but I miss the listener calls.  Hendrie's Art Bell impression is side splitting..

Was a joke but I love army of darkness also!

I always liked what Phil did of me. Never had a problem with it at all. It's all just part of the business and if you don't develop a thick skin you bleed a lot. Also, it is much worse to be ignored. What he did was truly funny stuff, if Phil has fallen into the Political pit I am sorry to hear it, I always figured why send half of your possible listener base away angry. I also have the advantage of truly being bored with Politics, so it's easy.

Art--I'd love for you to be interviewed by Phil on his show--that would be a hoot!  And it could publicize your upcoming show if you do it at the proper time.

What if, on the first episode of MITD, Art Bell performed his impression of Phil Hendrie?

Minds blown.

I'm so happy to hear this. I've always wondered how you felt about it. Some people lose their sense of humor quickly (assuming they had one to begin with) after being parodied (SNL comes to mind) but I suspected that you would not be one of them.  Glad it's true.

The political stuff is a definite dead end for me. I have my opinions - just as strong as anyone else's - but to listen to that on the radio or banter about on a forum is a waste of time IMHO.  No one has ever changed their mind and most people have lost their ability to discuss politics in a sane, factual matter.  I haven't ventured into this forum's political threads and probably never will. It bores me as well.

i think phil would make a fabulous guest on your new show, art.  in my mind, the two of you have always seemed inexplicably linked.

when i argue politics with people on here, i am able to change hearts and minds approximately 88% of the time.  so i don't know where you're coming from with this.

laserjock

Me too, I used to be far right winged, but a few years ago through extensive therapist time it all crashed down for me, and today I'm a mostly moderate left winger.  Fiscally I'm liberal, I do still share certain right wing beliefs, but I grew so weary of the lies and deceit I changed parties.

Those parodies were really funny.  And a close listen reveals that Phil was obviously a  big fan of Art Bell.  He must have listened a lot to get the voice down so well and to spoof the show in such a hilariously accurate way.  He said something once in an interview about what a big fan he was, and how "Art broke all the rules in radio, he was truly a pioneer."  And it's true.

seriously? that's because you OWN this forum and people like to kiss your feet. I try to avoid talking politics and conspiracy here, I've seen how this always turns into a shitstorm of personal insults from people who are unable and unwilling  to change their perspective.

PS. Forum is super laggy again

coaster

Some of Phil's stuff was absolutely hilarious.

It is the "Beast Computer" in Brussels using the internet to suck up all our souls, or at least data, to give us all "the mark!" (Or so I recall from some forwarded emails several decades ago.)

Lol.

Indeed. I think 99% of those who think they've changed political views have mostly just realized that what they believe is actually called something other than what they thought it was.
