Art Bell

actually Art's show was 5 hours long thruout the 90s. It used to air an hour later from 11pm-4am PT, until late in the 90s he got it moved one hour earlier to start at 10PM PT like it has since then.
It was reduced to 4 hours in 2001-2002 due to his back problems and when Noory took over he kept it at 4 hours, though he had promised to take it back to 5 hours at some point but never did.
Art also did an 8 hour special show once for the 2000 (millenium) New year show.

Five hours of George Noory?  Four hours of the new Coast to Coast is already a chore to listen to.  I think he'd be better to take it to one hour.  Then perhaps he could be more focused and not be in direct competition with Art Bell.  Everyone would be happy.

I've identified 43 of them  :o
I don't have OCD, but I sure would like a list of those 43 books.  If you're up for it, maybe a separate thread about "What's in Art's Library?"  It would be interesting, at least to me, to read others' comments on the particular books in question too.   If the thread dies, you can blame me.   :)

Thanks for bringing that over, HorrorReporter.  I love this part [bolding mine]:

Quote from: Art Bell
George does one type of show and I do another, both should benefit from competition, that’s how the rest of the World works.

Maybe both should, but only one will.   ;)

It also made me smile that, although Art said he's going to have on the same guests (Hoaxland, Streiber, et al) as Dave, at least for the first two weeks, he does a different type of show than Dave.  It's true; Art and Dave can have the very same guests, talking about the very same general topics (their books, CDs and websites, of course), and it's going to be two very different types of shows.  One of them will be worth the time to listen.  School is in session, Dave.

Not sure if this is true--was told by somebody that Howard was kind of Mocking Art...you know about the crazy Alien guy.  Comparing him to one of his wack pack--isn't his name Riley Martin?...a low grade imitator of Art who was on C2C for a hour or so way in the past.  I think it was with Art--I do remeber listeing to that...the guy was awful and a bit touched.  Not one of the best C2C guests at all.  I hear Howard gives him time on his channel as a goof.

I'm not sure you got this right - I can't see how Riley Martin could be called a low grade imitator of Art. He was just a guest, an alleged abductee, who was on Coast at least three or four times, and probably for whole shows. I don't think he was ever on with Art, but I remember in particular a whole show he did with Ian. He sounds like an older guy, and with his dry, matter-of-fact delivery, I thought he was a scream, although very likely insane. I think he told a story about having a boxing match with his alien abductors, after which he asked them to give him an alien woman as a reward. I would love to hear Riley Martin on DM.

Edit: Having said all that, I just Googled him and I see that he DOES have his own show on Sirius XM, so I guess I stand corrected. Still found him funny. I might tune in to his show now!

IMO could be dead wrong here. Noory seems like one of those people who are fake and plastic 24/7, only time hes not a phoney is when in his one natural state, sleeping.
My 2 cents, for what it's worth. (-_-)

Exactly.  That's why my first thought when he popped-up with that awful avatar on the GNS thread was "what's this self-serving phony up to now?"  Surely NOTHING to do with Art's return.  Sure, right.  He's just reaching out.  It was all just a coinshedence.  ::)

"I'm from PremRat and I'm here to serve you."  Right, Jorch, go crawl back into your hole deep beneath the earth and let us enjoy this time of Art's return.

FapTastic!!

Windows down... smell of crisp desert air... riding shotgun on a dark desert byway... satellite radio rocking... Geo revved past the red line... Art with a wry smile says ... "She's running good, let's keep going!" ... taillights vanish into boiling ribbon of dust.

Buckled in and hanging on!

He's winding down folk... er winding up folks!

Great posts, Catsmile.  "Geo revved past the redline.." ;D  I wonder if Art still has the Geo Metro and the Trans Am?  Unlike  the boring Snorry talking about his supposed personal life, I always loved when Art would just drop in some personal tidbits.  Anything from cats to Firebirds.  ;D

As a lifelong night person, it should take Art about 1 night to get back to that - assuming he hasn't been staying up and reading/operating his ham radio/etc all along anyway.

And boy, having to listen to Howard Stern for over an hour just to find that was NOT fun.  You think Noory's not trying?  Howard Stern makes Noory look like the hardest-working man in radio in comparison.  I fail to understand how what I was hearing should even be classified as a "show."

Sirius XM needs Art Bell badly.

I've NEVER been a fan of Stern.  Too me, he's just an ugly, self-serving, juvenile jerk.  :P

I'd like to help him re-name Dames 'the man people won't listen to anymore'
I don't know why so many have such a problem with Dames.  I'd listen to his predictions, uh, remote viewing, assign them to the won't happen bin of my memory, and know that I didn't have to worry about that catastrophe again.

I'd like to know what the 43 books are, too.

Art could even have "Dave" on as a guest and make it an interesting show.   On second thought, Art should not go below interviewing rocks.  ;)

How do you think Dave is going to handle it when people inevitably call C2C and start talking about Art's guests from earlier in the evening? I was thinking about this last night, and I bet that's actually going to be fairly common, even from people who are not trying to give him a hard time. I think Dave may get stuck listening to Art's show nightly, or at least part of it.

For me, folks such as Dames and Hoagland are obvious frauds that long ago lost my interest.  I remember when they first popped-up with Art and even though they'd still make you raise your eyebrows and set-off the BS detector....maybe, just maybe there was a sliver of the truth in what they'd discuss.  Of course, Art, being the master of the late night campfire, added to the mysterious atmosphere.  That's long, long gone and I can only walk through the row of carnival hucksters so many times.

Hahaha... ;D.  Sounds like justice being done, to me.  I'm sure they'll try to call screen as much as they can but some will still get through to fluster and frustrate Dave.  Enjoy, Dave.

I've just thought of a radical new direction Art could take: dave could co-host and the interviews would take the form of Art patiently interpreting what the guest is saying to an increasingly mystified dave.

Someone on Facebook asked Art:

"Art, out of curiosity, did you sign a LONG-TERM contract with Sirius? just want to know how long I can expect you to hang around"

and Art replied:

"So long that by the time it expires the Chinese will be mining Pluto for gold."

A little dig at Noory's comment about Mars?

When the news broke I immediately thought of people calling into C2C and talking about what happened earlier on Dark Matter. Free promo for DM is a great thing  ;) Dave said they would support Art and his new show the best they can so they can't tell people to stop mentioning it. And if they cut someone off we'll be here to call them out.

@Jazmunda, that is a great jab at Jorchie's Mars comment  8)

All I can fucking say folks is I'm fucking pumped for Art's return. Pardon the language but it's necessary to describe my excitement! It will also be an amazing feeling being able to listen to Art, on Halloween (and beyond), in the confines of my new, first home. So excited for this!

I hope so, I really do. It would be fascinating radio to hear his side of everything, and any other details about the new contract.

A long-term contract is fantastic news. My god it's bliss!

It sounded like he couldn't to finally tell it.  I hope he does.

Announcing plans to hold the guests over - and into the opening of the George Noory show - was significant from someone who earlier didn't want to 'destroy' what he'd built, and originally set the hours of the new show so as not to be on at the same time as Georges.

I think the first several shows are going to cover a lot, especially the first one.  Unless he wants to have guests on for awhile at first so new listeners can get a feel for the show.

Not to put a damper on things but I wonder if Art ever got his back problem straightened out ? It was one of the reasons he left broadcasting to begin with if any of you recall it.

His back was one of the excuses given for leaving. Not really sure there was an actual problem with his back.

I'm wondering how long it will be before C Crane comes out with a Satellite radio... hahahha

Morgus

Art had his back problems during 2002 when he had to take off a lot and Noory and others filled in at the last minute, until he retired and Noory took over fully at the beginning of 2003.
But a year or two later when Art came back to do weekends, he said on the air he had solved the back problems by losing a lot of weight.

I seem to recall Art saying a few years back they gave away some of the cats.
Along with Comet and AbbyDos, I'd like to hear an update on the cat he adopted as a stray while living in Manila too.
