If I were in his shoes I'd almost certainly feel that way.  First the creepy and escalating incidents at his home, then the tsunami of hateful and unsubstantiated paranoid sentiments expressed here, including the despicable mention of past personal horrors in some warped attempt to impugn his character.  If I saw my "fan base" going after me like that in the midst of a scary crisis, getting back on the air would be far from a priority.

I hadn't really thought about it before, but given the total lack of credible evidence that Art has ever lied to his audience, I suppose I do believe everything he's told us.  I'm a skeptic; skeptics follow the evidence, and the evidence we have establishes a very compelling case for honesty in Art's statements.  I was kinda surprised that the suspicious "conspiracy camp" couldn't offer anything persuasive to make their case - you'd think that 20+ years of talk radio would've offered plenty of dubious fresh meat for the jackals to lunch on.  So I suppose it's fair to question the man's choices, but at least he's honest.

It seemed perfectly clear to me that Heather simply stepped in to save the show, to buy Art some time to work things out and get back to the mic.  There were perhaps also other business-related reasons for doing so, like having a job rather than suddenly being out of work.  People who seem to think she's happy about any of this, that this has been "fun" for her, are dreaming, imo.  Jumping on the mic with basically no notice to face a lynch mob of furious fans slinging accusations all over the place, facing an avalanche of no-holds-barred criticism directed at her personally, having hecklers calling in just to be dicks - it's difficult to imagine a job that I'd want less than the one she's doing now to keep this embattled enterprise together.

I think it's bizarre and eerie that nobody seems to give a shit that the man has been faced with shots fired at his home, and had every reason to fear for his life during the last incident.  Wtf is the matter with people?  Ok sure it's a bummer that he bowed out so suddenly, but that hardly compares with some armed freak terrifying you from the shadows at random moments.

People seem to be almost unanimously blaming Art for what's happened, but why isn't anyone angry at the real culprit here:  the armed psycho who caused all of this?

I hear a lot of baseless speculation that Art just didn't want to do the show, and this was some kind of elaborate rouse, or perhaps was merely an opportune excuse to bow out.  But he's never needed an "excuse" to do that before.  If he hadn't wanted to continue, he would've just said so.  All the conspiracy stuff reminds of that old saying "if you hear hoofbeats in Central Park, think 'horses' not 'zebras.'"

In all seriousness, I agree. I think Heather is doing ok, but she obviously didn't want this, especially quite yet. If she was thinking about stepping in, why didn't she do weekends/guest shows for Art?

Stating "the obvious" isn't a "blind spot" or "hole in my logic," so you would have to specify one before moving on to "other blind spots and holes in [my] logic."  The problem I keep seeing is this discussion it that the people who don't believe Art's story (and you seem to be implying that you're in that camp), only have suspicions and circumstantial arguments to offer.  But facts are another matter altogether.  I'm always willing to let new facts change my mind.

The police don't feel that any further investigation is warranted. Art hasn't added any security measures, seems to be going on with his life in the same residence etc.

Because the phone call said they'd all be killed if Art went on the air.  The converse would seem to follow, especially since there were limitless chances to murder them all long ago.

So I guess that's why Art went back on the air less than 24 hours after announcing he "hung up the mic" with Heather Wade and took control of that show for a good portion of it....yup...guess Art NOT being on the Air was the solution to his and his family's safety.

In general, this is a terrific argument and a wonderful philosophy. The problem is, you're stating it on BellGab and you don't account for that at all. You've got to tailor this speech to the audience you're addressing or expect it to fall flat. Tough to do because this is a tough audience.

I can't speak for anyone else, but myself.

What I object to this time around is that I feel Art is trying to play us all as sycophant fools and those of us who see this latest whatever it was, have every right to call him on it...that's all.

There a plethora of good podcasts out there to listen to without Art being on the airwaves.

I enjoyed some of his MITD programs, however as others have said, something was just missing the mark.

It is sad that after 2 + decades that it had to end this way, however life goes on, it's a spanking brand new year and we live on a beautiful planet, so let's just enjoy each moment and move on....until of course Art yanks that chain again, which I have no doubt he will do.

That's probably true, because what leads could you follow?  There aren't likely to be any.  If an order was gotten to trace phone records re the threatening call, it would not be smart to publish the results or even if such a trace was obtained.  The likeliest way such a case would be solved would be for the solution to materialize as in the Unabomber case, which didn't involve investig'n.
