The only remark of moderate interest here is the insipid fallacy that anyone would have to abandon analytical reasoning before they could study things like meditation and ancient mysticism.  The truth is that dispassionate objectivity and careful observation are keys to both physics and metaphysics.  David Bohm did some excellent work in both areas - in fact the deBroglie-Bohm pilot-wave theory may prove to be the most fruitful interpretation of quantum mechanics.

But I doubt that you personally know anything about either science or mysticism, so this isn't really a response to you; it's for the reasonable thinking people who may read this and have an interest in either or both.

There is a Phil Hendrie thread on here somewhere that flickers back into life occasionally. He is as good as it gets, but not enough people have ever heard of him. He is also difficult and fond of alienating his fans, and stopped doing his show a few years ago in an effort to get a TV career off the ground, but it never really worked for him. Personally, I think his best days are a long way behind him, but you have the archives to listen to where you can hear him at his best so it doesn't really matter. I think his Art parodies are OK but there is a lot of stuff he did that was funnier than that, although his 'goblin juice' bit was hilarious, where he cracks himself up and can't speak for a while.

Phil was incredible.  Like Art Bell, I discovered him after he'd peaked.  I didn't listen to the radio much in the mid to late 90s, which were the absolute glory days of Art Bell and Phil Hendrie, two of the greatest radio broadcasters in history.  I actually started listening to Hendrie in 2000, and only because I knew a guy who got hired to be a writer/producer for him.  Basically, that entailed coming up with possible story ideas pre-show, and during the show, coming up with one-liners or topics to feed to Phil.  I started listening and it was hilarious.

The job paid very well - he was making $80-90K in 2002-2003 for basically a six hour work day.  But he hated it.  He hated it because he said Hendrie was a raging psychotic when the microphone wasn't on.  Before the show, during commercials, after the show, he'd pretty much scream at his staff non-stop.  Horrible, awful abuse, about how stupid and useless they were.  Occasionally he would apologize later, but then it would start up again the next day.  He was a hard core drunk, to boot, which was no doubt part of the problem.

I didn't hear him for years because after about a year he was no longer carried in my city.  And, man, was I disappointed the day they replaced his show.  I knew he was a raging asshole behind the scenes, but he put on one of the funniest shows in the history of radio.  People didn't know the outrageous guests were put-ons, and would get agitated and call in to argue.  It was hilarious. I don't laugh out loud much, but he could always make me laugh, every day.  Steve Bosell and Jay Santos were two of my favorite characters.

Then, a few years later, I moved to a city where he was on the air.  And what did he do?  Not long after, he up and quit.  The story was that he wanted to try to become a full-time actor.  My friend says he doesn't buy that.  He was no longer working for him (hardly any of his staff lasted even two years on the job), but he said he was pretty sure the syndication company (Premiere?) got tired of his rants, rages, and ultimatums, and basically fired him. 

He was gone about a year, and then came back.  But like Art Bell, the magic never returned.  For one thing, he used to be in the afternoon drive time slot, and in nearly all the major an midsize markets.  When he came back, those slots were all filled.  His new time slot was around midnight.  And he wasn't in big cities, but small towns like Concord, NY, and Johnson City, TN. There aren't many people in those areas compared to LA, Dallas, NYC, etc, and few of them are listening to talk radio at midnight, and he never could get many callers.  Without callers, it simply wasn't the same show.  Finally he decided to quit radio altogether and just do a podcast.  I don't listen, because, to me, without the callers who think it's real, it's not very funny.  His best days are long behind him. 

So, like Art Bell, he has some major issues.  But this is the first I've heard that he used to abuse his fans.  I listened to his Monday podcast because someone said he talked about it, but he really didn't.  He just said he used to be an all around jerk, but didn't talk about abusing his fans.   I'd like to hear more about that.

But we'll stick with it: What if this hypothetical stranger (because unless you're personally acquainted with AB, he is to you) had intent to frame someone or had other motives to scream rape, when no rape occurred? In this country (wrongly in my opinion) the accused is named in the press, the alledged victim (rightly) never, even if the accused is aquitted and/or the accuser is  found to have lied in court. The innocent person though will have the dubious pleasure of being all over the press.

Sorry, I didn't even see this until after I replied to Coffeeman.  I won't  bother retracting anything I said there, I will only say two things: first, I'm glad you had the opportunity to get that out of your system, and second, a little clue. There is more Metaphysics and Mysticism in my Screen-name and current Avitar, and concisely put at that, than you are likely to see again in your life. GOOD NEWS

The kevin sorbo of Nye county has been ARRESTED

After an extensive two day search NCSO Deputies apprehended Jeffrey Stevens.

Stevens was seen in the area of Albertsons/Walmart. NCSO Deputies responded immediately and located him in the area of Albertsons at approximately 0900 hrs this morning.

Stevens attempted to avoid apprehension and after a foot pursuit then fought with arresting deputies. He was taken into custody and transported to Desert View Hospital for evaluation and then will be transported to the Nye County Detention Center.

An updated press release relating to his charges will be forthcoming.
