I don't find these people horrible. I was on Topix for a bit, and THEY are really mean-spirited, or were.  These are just a group of varied interests.  Just skip over conversations that don't interest you.  I prefer their frankness to groups such as City-Data, where the moderators each have different standards, some seem to have limited mental abilities and no imaginations, and there is no appeal to their arbitrary decisions.  Here, there are no moderators with ego problems who want to play 'queen of the hill'.  These are just like the regular guys whom you could find at work. 

It's comforting to know that you have freedom to spout off, but a short time later, know you are still accepted. This is more like most families than a forum.  Think about it.
