Time maybe right for someone to start a "Richard C Hoagland Sucks" thread.
Hoagie is giving us new 'pearls' of suckage nightly!
I'm sure the GNS thread came out of frustration, anger and annoyance.  Hoagie is more a brand of special entertainment.   Maybe something expressing our amusement but general wtf.. uh, disbelief that we are actually hearing this.  Maybe something like "That's Our Hoagie!" Or "Out of Hoagland's Mind".  You get my drift.

Did the stream drop once or twice? I heard it go down once - and Keith came on saying he would try to get Art back - then a bit later, maybe a half hour or so my stream stopped and didn't hear anything more and fell asleep before it came back. When I woke later there still was nothing on the stream. At that point I was listening on TuneIn - but apparently the show finished. So again the question is - was there one stoppage or two?

Also - seems like Keith should have a pre-recorded Ross announcement saying there are tech difficulties - please stand by over a music bed or something -- instead of just silence. Radio stations HATE dead air.
That's a really good idea about a recorded Ross announcement.  Love that voice - besides, Keith is too busy then to have to stop and make an announcement.

You know, I did the same as you.  I'm sorry that I can't say if there were two drops.  I fell asleep, too, and only awoke when the end of show music was on.  I'll probably have to pick the rest up from the archives.

I wonder if the archives show the drop?  Maybe not.  I remember Stanton starting to agee that the anomalies were, indeed, strange.

I hate myself for sleeping so much.  I feel that somehow I am disrespecting Art.  Silly me.

Not wholy chuffed about tonight's topic.  It was proven back in the 1600s that the earth is not flat.

(Not wholy sure it was exactly proven in the "1600s," but it was a long, long time ago.  Some famous scientist dude proved it.  Off the top of my head, Galileo).

I think it's a fun topic, though.  I wasn't too enamoured with last night, but I did find out that the original moon walk video tapes were destroyed.  That was interesting - also the peculiar reaction of astronauts who could not remember actually walking on the moon.  Those things were very strange.

I have no intention of defending the hilariously kooky guy who is going to promote the flat earth idea, but things that were proven, and that form the basis of scientific systems, end up being overturned eventually. I'm not suggesting that anybody is going to "prove" that the Earth isn't round, but it's certainly plausible that a future iteration of our culture will believe that radically unimaginable things (from our perspective) have been proven. (I certainly don't think that "The Morgile" has a fraction of the intellectual or creative power needed to overturn an up-and-running research program [duh].)

FLAT EARTH DEBATE!!!!!!

Oh man, this will be a good one.

My favourite flat earth model is the turtle with the elephants

Oh for crying out loud.  If Earth were flat, it's orbit would have flung it far out in space eons ago.  We'd be in the Orion constellation now.  Well . . . yeah.  Sirius (Canis Major, The DOG Star) would have thought Earth was a frisbee and catch it. We'd be in orbit there! ;D

Turtle flippers knock it back in place. You'll have to do better than that.

Same here.  I usually enjoy the shows which feature something on the fringe but not so far out it's just bat shit crazy.  I don't care for "debates," either.  Too close to the usual political crap I'm trying to escape by listening to Art.

When I first learned Stanton was going to be on last night, I was interested.  Disappointed when I found out it was suppose to be debate, especially about the moon landings being a hoax or whatever it was.  I would have much preferred a show with just Art and Stanton.  The other dude could find a local dive and chase the patrons away.

Like he was ever right about anything. Three licks to get to the center of a tootsie pop? Harumph. It's a turtle being orbited by a large sphere of green cheese that has domes on it. I have spoken.

Look, if you keep spoiling my gig, I'm never going to be able to work this into a myth that lasts ten thousand years. I'm on a schedule. Isn't there something I can buy you off with? Some chant, perhaps?

Early man knew the earth was spherical, there are ancient alignments and structures all over the world that reflect this

You just nailed it. I didn't realize until you pointed it out, but obviously every pseudo-intellectual with an ego bong is looking to get on Art Bell now that he's back.

I just had a great idea--nothing but open lines for 12 weeks. Shake the tree.

Agree.  It was more annoying than anything else.  I am also no fan of the debate format:  it just causes so much tension, the strain of the underlying arguing, even when it's done politely, that I can't enjoy it.  I love Art, but I'm no leg-humper.  If I don't enjoy one of the shows, I'm going to say so.

LouSheehan

Absent very structured/formal rules, such 'debates' always seem to sink to the level of name-calling.  Not at all fun or informative.
